There appears to be a strong theme of "waterfalls" in 2019 as our April hike took us to another gorgeous water feature in the Pacific Northwest. Positioned in the heart of the Gifford Pinchot National Forecast in SW Washington, the hike to Falls Creek Falls is an out-and-back that is approximately 6.2 miles round trip. The trail does have a pretty steady incline on the way out to the waterfalls and you are at 1200FT elevation so is worth to time take it slow, drink plenty of water and pace yourself.
Visiting the Falls in early Spring when rain and snowmelt have the falls at full capacity is something to experience. We overheard that you can swim in the base of the falls where it forms a natural pool, but I would only recommend that on the hottest days in late summer.
Typically a Forest Service pass is required for parking at the trailhead. Be sure to arrive early as this is a fairly accessible and popular hike and the lot can fill up. Be aware that the road leading to the trailhead is an unimproved forest service road so it can be narrow, muddy and difficult to navigate in certain times of the year.
