My dad just had a issue like this morning. This helped us both understand it better. Thankfully he didn't jump down the sugar train. He was safe and waited.
O k from personal experience that i've dealt with with my own body. Had normal blood sugar levels and had hypoglycemic attacks. What I found out is it's not so much the blood sugar in the bloodstream. Its the cells have become insulin resistance so your body doesn't absorb. Then it might take Refine carbohydrates to drive the blood sugar high enough to get it into the cells. So your blood sugar will be high in the bloodstream. But it will be enough to drive it into the cells with the insulin resistance. The fix is to eliminate carbohydrit's and to eat moderate protein with natural fats like butter and eggs or fish. You can't just Go cold Turkey on the carbohydrates. Or it will give you hypoglycemic or put your body into shock. You're going through a withdrawal. You may Have to taper off slowly and that it's gonna be a rough ten days at least. Remember to keep your electrolytes balanced like potassium and magnesium with plenty of water and salt, preferably manual salt. You're going to basically be going into a Form of keto and carnivore diet. If you do it correctly and be disciplined, you can make it work really well, but you cannot be Lazy or it will not work the most optimal. Hopefully this will help somebody struggling with Insulin resistance or hypoglycemic non diabetic or Prediabetes.
Thanks for this video. I was 77 today and my normal is 2 to 3 hundred and I felt terrible. This has given me the motivation to not over do the sugar trying to get back to my normal crappy feeling. I will wait it out.
Same with me mine is like at 105 which isn’t to low after eating and I feel terrible and sometimes it will go down to 82 and that’s when I can barely talk or anything like I don’t want to move and I’m so anxious it sucks hopefully you will find a solution
@@janellcampbell2975 I said screw it and went to both my primary care doctor who put me on buspirone and ssri and my endocrinologist put me on cgm. I'm doing much better now😊
Thank you, I just experienced this bs was at 80 been steady all day then got blurry vision felt confused and disoriented, it felt like my bs was in the 50's but it read 82 my first go to was eat something and ended up eating a orange and a granola bar 15 min later it shot up to 107 and i could not understand what was happening to me so I am pleased to have seen this video it shed some light on this.
That's how I feel, especially since I'm on a diet. but when I drink sweets, I suddenly feel back to normal. I'm just going to eat carbs and protein and fiber. Thanks for the explanation. great help for someone with such a disease like me.
I just had a false hypo this evening. I called my husband. He brought my glucose monitor (I normally don’t carry it because the only problem is have is with spikes). However, I’ve been watching these spikes and eating low carb to keep them at bay. My glucose was only at 90, but I was definitely having symptoms and could not drive. We ended up having to pay $50 to the garage. I can’t wait for this to go away. It feels so awful.
Recently I went from 295 to 123 ( lowest so far ) and having many “ hypoglycemic “ episodes..😢 your body getting use to new low level symptoms makes most sense!! Hopefully adjustment phase doesn’t last long !!
The guy is spot on about treating it with a half a sandwich with protein and fat. When my husband was working, I packed him peanut butter and cheese crackers, small cans of juice or for a more serious drop glucose tablets. Always carry a little kit consisting of snacks such as these. Even at 84 you're still ok unless it continues to drop rapidly
I’m having severe hypo symptoms right now and I’m only at 93. When I was young I would frequently pass out due to hypo. Now I’m old and my sugars are getting high enough to be bordering prediabetes. Now I feel fine at 111 but feel woozy at 93. Ugh.
I have had false lows for years. I did not know they were false. I ate candy and it made me feel better. At the time I was testing very infrequently. I have D2 and did not think I had a large range of variation. In the past couple of years I also contracted vestibular migraine condition, which I felt very unsteady and like I was going to fall. I am getting treatment for that condition, which also feels like hypoglycemia. Recently I got a prescription for a continuous monitoring device. That has helped me to sort out if if have a diabetes issue or a migraine issue. This video was really helpful as to the cause of my not feeling well associated with diabetes.
I've felt low when sugar was high.. now I've just been all over the place with highs and lows.. it's driving me crazy. I have the medtronic cgm but I'm constantly checking my sugars. I just started eating carbs...I hadn't eaten them for years.. I actually have an appointment with mastering diabetes wed to see if they can help.
This is really helpful-- I'm finding that any time my blood sugar lowers by 20 points inside of 2 hours, I have episodes like this-- no matter if I started at 253 or 115. Hopefully it's just an adjustment period!
About 2 and half a months ago I started Keto and intermittent fasting. My blood glucose dropped significantly but I has those hypoglycemia symptoms 2 or 3 times a week with normal glucose measurement. VERY Bad - fainted. My doctor could not provide me any good advice. Thanks to your video. I have made very good progress, from 2 or 3 times a week to once a week or 10 days with less severity. By today I have not had such incidents it symptoms for 20 days. Really appreciate your videos to help and guide me go through difficult times.
I’ve asked all my doctors from pcp endocrinologist, infectious disease doctor I even ask wound care doc and nurses not ONE of them could tell me how to stop this vicious cycle I’ve been trying so hard to get my sugar normal but now I just have PTSD from these false lows it makes me feel like I’m dying no joke !! I can’t wait to use his suggestions and try not to panic and shove my face with sugar . Medicaid won’t pay for one of those meters unless you inject insulin 3 times a day and doc said even then it’s an act of congress I’m at 2 injections a day . I wish i could afford one
One of my mother's sisters also had hypoglycemia and then she had anxiety and depression just like fear after several days. She is also having some incorrect hypoglycemic symptoms (fall slows as mentioned in the video) even if her blood sugar is normal now. Natural bee honey helps her a lot to manage her anxiety, depression and fear specially raising at night. I gave 1tsp of bee honey evening and night. I thought this comment would be helpful to anyone who is looking for an immediate response for anxiety and depression specially that can occur after hypoglycemic episodes.
Thank you for this. I suffer through these false lows nearly every day, especially after breakfast. I'm usually forced to eat lunch sooner than what I planned, but it beats feeling lousy for hours. I've been like this for the last two months when I dipped back down to an A1c around 5 after being very high initially. Seems like it'll take a while to feel somewhat normal again. Sorry, body!
After going to appointments for 2 month's, I may have just found what ive been experiencing since discovering I'm pre diabetic and starting a low carb diet. Thanks for the video, and a fellow picker! Love the guitars in the back! I call that a doubler!
I CANNOT THANK YOU ENOUGH for this video. I had no idea what was happening or why I was feeling so badly with a normal BG level. This makes so much sense. The low feeling is so terrible but this video is comforting as I try to get my sugars back to a normal range
I recently lost about 40lbs over 6 months and have these false lows daily (with checking blood sugar). I don't have diabetes but really appreciate this video. Have you ever seen something like that? Where rapid weight loss can cause it and will my body eventually get used to it? It's been 2 months of these symptoms and now my weight has stabilized.
I am kind of having the same thing. I've lost 35 lbs. over six months and my symptoms have been going on for all six months. My doctor believes that my thyroid and adrenals are fatigued. I am just not beginning to realize that my symptoms are shakiness, brain fog and all the other classics are due to my blood sure being low. Anybody have thoughts?
You have to exercise for ten minutes every time it happens. It goes away if you exercise. I had the same problems , it went away 3 months ago. Keeps exercising, buy an exercise bike .
Hi Doc. I had an episode that I can not explain. One night I woke up shivering uncontrollably and feeling hypo. I checked my blood but it was normal for me. 130 I went to emergency the next day still felling hypo. Vomited in the waiting room. and shivering. They could not find anything wrong and later that day was feelling normal again. I had a similar episode about a year later but not as bad. I'm a type 2 for about 15 years 77 years old. I inject Trasiba insulin and my A1C is 5.5 mmol. Your talk about false lows is the first I have heard about the possible reason for my episode.
I feel bad when my sugar level is around 85 sometimes 90 and that is not fun at all. I have been to many doctors and every time they do lab.. work they Are normal to the point that some doctors have told me that is anxiety or depressed but not answer to my health issues.
Yes, I used to get those symptoms at 100 but now I can get 80 or below before low blood sugar symptoms kick in. Another low sugar symptom, grainy vision.
@@sugarhighchannel Until I saw your video, I have hated every single doctor in the world, you are the exception, thank you for explaining the false lows.
This just happened to me, I am type 2 diabetic so I checked my sugar and it is 128 which is just fine especially being I ate a couple of hours ago but I feel like it is low. Before becoming diabetic in my 20's I suffered greatly with low blood sugar, it would get down in the 30's while in the Doctors office he would give me glucose and it still wouldn't go up.
Thank you for this video. I recently received my 2nd covid vaccine and got sick-covid symptoms for 3 days- on the 4th day I had a false low. I felt like I was having hypoglycemia and when I checked my blood sugar it was 130mg/dl, despite the number my husband gave me a cheese stick and beef stick since we didn't have anything sweet on hand at the time. After I ate it my blood sugar actually dropped to 116. I was extremely confused with these numbers associated with the symptoms I had, nothing like this had happened to me before.
I have reactive hypoglicemia and even when I check my sugar level is normal, but I got the symptoms. I can't drink any juices even homemade from healthy fruit and veg cause the hypo attack come very fast-same with salty snacks and sweet... I need to follow low GI diet to keep my blood sugar on line, but sometimes I can't eat regularly and then the hypo attack hit me-it simmilar to panic attack ,but also got hunger, headache,my hands tingling,I feel extreme fatigue
I get these symptoms once hit 94 or below....I've always wanted to wait it out as you stated but it's very scary and uncomfortable. I always think im going to have a seizure or pass out. How long would it take approximately for oue bodies to get use to the new level i wonder?
That’s what I want to know as well. I feel like heaps trembly like I’m about to have a seizure too! Do we just ignore it or eat something? That’s what I need to know! I did a big clean up in my home and I started shaking so I drank juice and had some chocolate while I was drinking the juice my sugar was 5 (Australian reading) so it was normal. Apparently under 4 is true hypoglycaemia but I was normal and I’ve had this for over 15 yrs on and off. Was gone for 10 months and it came back again. So annoying!!! Just want to live a normal life 😢
@@War_Princess ok so I've figured it out......I did ALOT of digging and I came across a post on reddit. It stated that because your insulin is normal and you get these symptoms. Assuming you don't have any other major issues, to wait it out. I know it sounds crazy, for example sit down and wait it out for like 10-15mins. If you're not hungry and you get these symptoms like 2 to 3 hrs later that's not hunger. It's your bodies flight or fight because its used to snacking. So again wait it out you're going to go through different type of symptoms but just breath it out. Have a snack by you, but DON'T give in. Once the 10-15mins passes do it again. This is called exposure therapy. You won't pass out if your blood sugar is normal. It just feels that way. I went through this for about a few days and believe it or not its gotten SOOOOO much better! My body started getting a bit sweaty, shortness of breath, headache/body ache, etc. Its almost like an addict getting withdrawals because u always fed it sugar. But you have to really go through the symptoms. Again make sure its not hunger symptoms, mine usual started by the 3rd hour and I was not hungry. Hopes this helps!
Makes sense!! It’s funny because I don’t know anyone else that has it besides myself that’s why it’s a little sketchy for me. Thanks so much for the tips! I am going to see a endo specialist as well just to double check. Thanks for all the info appreciate you ❤️
@@War_Princess definitely better safe to get extra checkups to cross off the list. You're welcome! Keep posted if you don't mind I'd love to know your journey!
@@sweetfiresroastednuts6535 for sure will keep you posted of my outcome. My appointment is in march I will for sure txt you here and let you know. Thanks again😊❤️
Get yourselves a Blood Pressure Monitor, learn to use it (because) the High/LOW Blood Pressure shakes/symptoms are the same as the shakes/symptoms for Low Blood Sugar (for me). Also, if you find yourself getting cold/chilled/even freezing shakes, it can be bc of low/high blood pressure. So, dont cheat yourselves out of some learning. Go get yourself a Blood Pressure Monitor. Just last week my sugar went down to 48. My bp went down to 70. Without my monitor, I never would have known. It's a great tool to have on hand. As far as blood glucose/sugar, I am poking 11-15 times a day trying to balance, and I just cant do it anymore. Sometimes I am poking 3 times just to get a drop of blood for the test strip.
I have been having this since increasing protein. When I was first diagnosed, I was told that sometimes, the liver releases a burst of glucose to try and level out blood sugar and o CE that runs out, your blood sugar will drop if you dont eat. If this happens often, it can cause liver damage. Thoughts?
I'm T2. FYI I like kid juice boxes. When my blood sugars go up or down fast I get hungry. Usually I drink a lot of water to give my stomach something to do until the change slows down. When I first got T2 I felt lousy below 90. Now I don't get hypo symptoms until below 65. (This is not good.) I just got a cgm.
It would be really cool if you did a video on the pros and cons of multiple daily injections and insulin pumps! I'm struggling to decide whether I should jump to a pump.
Videos on insulin pumps are on the way! But, since there's no sense keeping you waiting, if I was on multiple daily injections, I'd personally much rather use a pump. Theres a lot more customizability and features that injections could never deliver. But it is a personal choice and some people prefer the injections.
I have a question can you please answer it when I was 18 I went to the doctor and they said I didn’t have hypoglycemia anymore but they didn’t take no test but I was young so I believe but now as a 23-year-old. I’m starting to feel pain and my legs and then my arms and I would get that as a kid and that was a sign that my sugar was low. is it possible to grow out of hypoglycemia or do you stick with it because I’m confused? I feel like I haven’t been taking care of myself. Well I haven’t been eating healthy. I’ve been eating a lot of fake sugars and I’m natural sugars.
I'm not a diabetic but sometimes when I go for a walk I will sweat and feel shaky I checked my blood sugar and it's fine it's usually between 100 and 140 but I eat very little before I go for a walk it doesn't happen all the time once in a great while it can be pretty scary though.
Try protein. When I used to feel hypoglycemic a lot I would have some avacado or something. Meat etc plus what he said. I would be at 80 which is normal but I felt horrible. Now I've got pre diabetes like you do. And sometimes much higher . Be careful. Have a piece of real cheese like cheddar. Dont use sugar.
I’m not feeling that sensation no more thanks god. 3 months without the sensation My eyes getting better and my diabetes is getting so better that my doctor wants to take me out of medications
After YEARS of searching for the answer to this onlu happened after google uses AI searches that lead me to the correct terminology “false hypoglycemia” no doctor in what like 7 years has helped me . One night I woke up my sugar was 70 my ears felt like they were on fire I had to wake my husband up to go get me some sugar I couldn’t walk !!
I was recently diagnosed after 9 years, with an insulinoma. I can't keep it over 100. Usually it measures about 40. I have these symptoms everyday. Looking forward to having it removed. I finally found a Dr. that actually paid attention to ALL my symptoms.Thank you Dr Ducharme
I get real lows but I'm normally high, my main issue is when I consume sugars when low it takes some time for my blood sugar to react, alternatively I can be on a high but hungry I'll check my bloods and I'll be high but I eat anyway as I know I need food and my blood sugars can actually drop 20+ mins after food.
I experience this between 3 and 5 AM five out of seven nights a week. I wake up angry and sweaty and with hunger pangs and trembling. It’s usually not low, in the 86 range. But, if I ignore it, it gets low. I think what I’m experiencing is the rapid descent. Best solution is a midnight snack of chips and guacamole! I go back to sleep and the symptoms don’t wake me up again.
I feel like I’ve been fighting my body since as long as I can remember. I ordered a blood sugar glucose test so I can tell myself over and over that I am fine
I have these and they are sometimes unsettling. I dropped my sugar level from 300 to levels of 100 to 130 in a year on metformin and trulicity along with losing 40 lbs. I was having sugar levels down to 83 so my Doctor gave me the ok to go off all my diabetic meds. I get false lows now that sometimes cause tremors throughout my body. Does anyone else have this level of false lows? I drink a small kids juice box and it goes away within mins.
Recently I am having what feels like hypoglycemia. Right now I'm at 152 but I have severe hunger and shakes and the panicky feeling almost as bad as all the years I had low blood sugar every day. Im pre diabetic trying to find the right things for me to get to normal without getting on metformin because I'm scared of it after things I have read and watched about metformin. I hope you are doing better. Im sorry no one answered you.
Bro I’m having the same thing recently I switched my diet from high carbs to mainly vegetables protien and fat (basically keto) and almost every night I wake up with these false lows and drink juice and eat pumpkin seeds, but basically the same as you, have you found any ways around it and does it go away
@@owenv2429 Hello, I found that cutting carbs like you are doing is the best thing to help the highs and lows. I mistakenly thought I was getting these "low" feelings from my sugars but I found that it is my lower back with herniated discs that press on nerves down there that are giving me tingling feelings. I found this out from waking up from belly sleeping with my leg bent up to my side that it went away within mins of me getting up. I get these feelings if I sit slouched or lay down in a certain way. I just got an epidural shot in my lower back last week and hoping it helps things shrink and relax so I don't get these feelings. Just keep doing what you are doing and snack every couple of hours. I keep a bag of raw almonds on me and snack on them when I feel like I am going to normal levels of day 95 to 100 glucose reading. Skippy peanut has a new Natural peanut butter with lower sodium and sugar, try taking a tablespoon of that before you go to bed.
@@RepentfollowJesus Thank you I am doing a lot better sugar wise. Cutting out Soda, white breads, beer and cakes and cookies has helped me to keep my sugars under control and I am 3 months off Metformin. Checked my sugar yesterday and it was 95 3 hours after lunch. I try to stay active and only have cake at birthday parties and if I want a treat I try to only eat sugar free sweets. Losing weight is the best thing you can do to get your sugar and body under control.
Omg i needed to see this my level was 88 after i started feeling shaky after i woke up which was 4th day of covid last week…i hurried up and cooked and ate a lot including sugary stuff and when it got up to 156 i was great…my normal is usually 125 to 160 which ik is high
I'm glad I found this vidoe....... on my own I found that my body isn't very happy sitting at 100 I start to feel sick when it hits 90 I feel terrible it might sound stupid but I'm even fine at 101 .... what I usually do if I let it get down to 90 is I take a bite of a rice crisp and within a few minutes I'm feeling better and it only bumps my sugar up a little ..... now what I don't know is why am I all of a sudden going through this other than the diet change I did roughly 8 months ago I've only been having this problem last 4 months I went from eating 6 meals a day all super healthy and clean drinking only water for 7 straight years Now I'm eating 3-4 meals still clean and healthy and only drinking water my protein carb and fat intake is only slightly less then when I was eating 6 a day Does anyone think it could possibly be cause my body is so used to eating constantly throughout the day
I always have a togo pack of peanut butter in my car or in a ziplock bag in my laptop bag. Spending most of my life in the 300+ levels I started taking insulin and now my blood sugars are in the 100s and I started getting this feeling 2-3 times a week. 4 months later I'm only feeling this once a week or once every 2 weeks. Also one more tip is make sure you're drinking plenty of water when you feel this because there's times when I thought it was hypoglycemia and I was just dehydrated.
Oh thank you!!!! Im new to all this! Maybe im dehydrated. My sugar is 152 this minute but I feel like I did when I had episodes of hypoglycemia 30 years ago way before pre diabetes.
So wait, what do you do when it's false low? I felt like this now at 133 after eating. (Not diabetic). Doesn't it mean it's not getting in our cells but remaining in our blood? Thank you!
Given that getting our muscles moving makes everyone feel better and the Glycogen storage in the muscles is probably not depleted if your sugar is normal, why wouldn’t the prescription be light exercise to get the muscles moving to use the glucose you already have on board?
Doc is probably trying to err on the side of safety, but this is a great example of what I was showing at the beginning of the video. It can be so easy to accidentally bring it too high
Would you consider covering insulin pumps? Particularly medtronic 670g, omnipod, and the tandem t-slim with the dexcom sensors? I'm trying to decide between them and am looking for someone with knowledge of all of these.
I keep getting low blood sugar readings with symptoms. I've tried to eat or drink 14 carb to bring it up but it stays basically low. Don't know what to do
Why do I feel like this when I’m in the mid 90s? Three months ago I was in the 300s but due to low carb diet my dr took me off the meds cause I was getting readings of 78 at night
Anyone that can help me please!!! I’ve done many test everything comes back normal.. I have insulin resistance buts that’s all I’ve been able to find. My arms start to feel weird (burning, numbness or weakness sensation I cannot describe it sometimes my arms feel super light like they are weightless ( I notice everytime my arms feel like that my bulging veins hide and become very thin I get shortness of breath, my nose feels like I have mucus on the back of my nose and makes me nauseous and I gag and it also makes me vomit sometimes, I’m always hungry every single hour even after eating lots of protein and fibers in every meal, my blood sugar levels are always in the same range when I start to feel like this (5.3 mmol/l) When I eat food I get a sugar spike up to 8 mmol/l and then come back down to 5.3 mmol/l within an hour to hour an half of every meal, sometimes I crash super fast after eating it spikes fast but also comes back to 5.2 or lower within 30 minutes I have insulin resistance with a HOMA-IR of 3.4 All my symptoms are, shortness of breath, extreme hunger, blurry vision, arm weakness and legs, brain fog, lightheadedness, my heart starts beating fast and I get high blood pressure, anxiety starts everytime my arms start to feel like this, I’ve almost fainted when my blood sugar has dropped to 4.2 mmol/l two days ago I start to feel very dizzy when I was walking home, blurry vision and short of breath but i had a coke with me so I sat down on the ground and chugged the coke and few minutes after I felt better but then I had a sugar crash after getting home again within 20 minutes of drinking the coke Every morning I wake up at 5.2 mmol/l and i feel absolutely awful everyday I have to eat something right away to bring my levels up and have milk to feel better
My regular is in the 220-300 range, which I know is terrible, and I'm working to bring it down, but these false hypoattacks scare the ever-living out of me, because they normally happen when I'm driving. Any suggestions doc?
Sir according to google, when your body reaches it's low sugar levels, the liver will release glucose. How low sugar level is this to release glucose from the liver?
My sugar stays around 250 but when it comes down to 150-180 it feels extremely low. But on top of that if i drink 2 cokes, it wouldn’t shoot my sugar up. What should i do?
@@mehreen6198 hey, i realized i was using too much lantus/treciba so had to lower the dose and it helped stabilize my sugars so it wouldn’t keep dropping. For feeling low in the 150s i think your A1C might be a little too high to where your body thinks 250 is normal for yourself. but it’s not. try lowering your sugars little by little everyday and keep it as steady as you can. try averaging 180-200 for a week and then your body will start to adapt to that.
Thank you so much for a detailed reply.i am on metformin 750mg and I am recently diagnosed with diabtese .I had it after covid when I had to take steroids and my sugar level spiked due to it.i get this false hypoglycemia episode once a day after eating dinner or evening snack.and it keeps dropping even if I eat and its so scary that I have go drink juice instantly and after 10 min my sugar goes up 200 and more and I start feeling better..usually it happens when my sugar touches 140 or less
@@mehreen6198 yeah definitely start to try n stabilize your sugars and maybe try talking to your endo ab this too. Maybe try taking less insulin for a day and see how that goes? I know it’s scary and honestly gives me hella anxiety but there’s always a fix. Don’t stress yourself out too much :)
