The first Zelda clone to reach the Famicom also brought one of the earliest female protagonists. Famidaily is my attempt to catalog all of the commercially released Famicom games.
I should've guessed 'surprise musician' would take a backseat for this episode in favor of 'ride of the valkyries', haha. also wow zelda's gonna be way at the end of this thing, definitely looking forward to that one! wasn't super familiar with this one but I loved playing the arcade version, at least as close as they could replicate it on namco museum. so would be curious to try this as a zelda-like.
I did try this one recently and the first I'd say is that it is nothing like the arcade game (though there is a partial port of that on the PC Engine)! It is also pretty rough, just as the video warned! 😆 One interesting thing is that when I was reading the notes of the translation patch, the author compared the game to Hydlide, and having played it, I can see where they were coming from. Unlike Hydlide, this game is actually okay (though it is pretty dated and esoteric).
I like how you only have a footstep sound indoors! Imagine my surprise when I played The Legend of Zelda 1 for the first time in 2000 and realized that the shareware PC game Robomaze 3 was a Zelda clone, and not even one of the better ones.
