I’m not embarrassed to say that when I don’t feel well, I get in bed and turn on Family Affair. I’m 55 and it’s still the best show around! It’s so comforting to watch. ❤
Now I don't feel as bad. I'm watching Family Affair now, taking a break from some work. I'm 58 and I feel the same. I started watching the reruns in the early weeks of the pandemic. But as time went on, I noticed that I watched it when I wasn't feeling the best. What you are feeling is the release of oxytocin when you experience nostalgia while watching vintage shows from your childhood. At first, I thought it was my fear of growing old and dying, but that's not it at all.
I think part of the reason for this program's popularity is that it represents security, the idea that even if something goes wrong, there will be family and people who will step up to take care of children. Whether arguments between parents make children worry that their parents will divorce, or that their mom will die like a schoolmate's mother did, or some other tragedy, children do have security issues. Here, there's not only Uncle Bill, but also Mr. French, both kind and competent, making everything alright again. I used to wish Uncle Bill was my uncle!
FAMILY AFFAIR in the 70s Jody a rock star, Buffy a Photo Journalist Kathy marry one Bill's rich old friend. Bill does production design for all the rock bands playing the Garden. Designing stages based on his work. NYC in the 70s be a show unto itself
As a little kid growing up in Ohio in the 1970s, I ALWAYS wanted to live in New York City in Uncle Bill's fabulous apartment! And now ... thanks to you ... I feel like I have! Love this video so much!!! 😊👍❤
Yes !! I would daydream about coming home after school and doing my homework on the balcony. And those double doors. 😃💛💛 It was a much more innocent time.
This channel is so classy. It’s such a nice, calm and quiet place to go for about a half hour. To temporarily live inside those houses I used to visit every week, when I was a small child. Thank you, Marina- and your staff- for providing a place to go that takes us out of today’s craziness.
@@MarinaCoatesMockingbirdLane Thank you so much for recreating the floor plans for these TV shows. The virtual tour gives me the feeling as if I was there. Having Kathy Garver to add to the presentation was the cherry on top. Thank you for your hard work and dedication to the channel. Peace and blessings to you and yours.😊👍
I grew up in NYC in the 1960's and 70's , on the lower East Side of Manhattan and later Queens NY. So for me it was fantasy to live like the twins in such an Apt. thank you so much for brining back such wonderful memories of time long gone. We didn't have much when i was kid, but, we had each other. Miss you Mom and Dad.
I'm glad it brought back good memories! I've made tours of other TV and movie homes. You can see all of the other TV and movie home tours I've made here: ru-vid.comvideos?view_as=subscriber
I have loved this penthouse apartment all my life. The set designers were brilliant. What a magical place. America was so wholesome back in that era. 🌇💜❤️💙
I always wished I had a sister like "Sissy". I'm so grateful that Kathy Garver gave me some "normalcy" to look forward to during my childhood. Thanks for posting this Marina!
What a fantastic job you did! Hearing Kathy was a treat, and loved that show! We all love nostalgia and wish at times to go back! Thanks for the memories and can’t wait for the next one!
@@pernelldh I tried. He even agreed. But somehow missed my subsequent emails to set up a Zoom interview. 😪 Major bummer. I would have LOVED to have him on to share stories too. Maybe it will work out when I do the Christmas tour and have the home decorated for the holidays. 🤞
Oh Marina! this is my favorite one. Even over the Bewitched house. You mentioned everything that used to stand out to me about that apartment. The tour experience gave me a feeling of safety and pride. Proud to have come from that time. Kathy Garver was a fantastic addition. I love the tinkly music in the background, made me recall kinder and simpler days. I am so thankful for you!
The problem-solving in this one is masterful! I was very small when I saw this show- I was 3 in 1971 and I watched it in re-runs. I was in love with what I called “The Buffy and Jody Show.” I wanted a big Mrs. Beasley doll so badly! (I had a miniature one.) I haven’t watched it in years and this made me nostalgic to watch it again! Thank you.
I love that you called it "The Buffy and Jody Show!" I have a friend that calls The Andy Griffith Show, "Andy and Mayberry. " And I call King of Queens, "Doug and Carrie." 😊
Family Affair was a favorite show of mine! I even had a Mrs. Beasley doll like Buffy had. Seeing a tour of this and all of the other shows really makes me feel like I walked into the homes. Thanks so much for showing these.
This is one of my favorites ever. Congratulations. What struck me was the serenity of the home. It is not filled with TVs, computers, and every toy in the world. I may just have to de-clutter my house a little. It was lovely to see 'Cissy' and hear her teenager to adult view of things. I was heart-broken when Anissa died so unnecessarily. God rest her soul. Jody was another Beaver Cleaver in some ways. Yes, they were the 'Good Old Days' for sure. I also loved the mid-century color scheme throughout the house. Great job and thank you so much.
Thank you. Glad you liked it. Funny you should bring up the character of Jody being similar to Beaver Cleaver. I was thinking that the writing for the show was similar to Leave it to Beaver, because the laughs were from the situations the kids got in and the way they worded things, rather than punchlines.
I absolutely loved this one. Family Affair is one of my all time favorites. I always loved Uncle Bill’s apartment. Thank you for so many views and details …loved that Kathy Garver was a part of this! Your videos keep getting better and better. As someone who loves home decorating and loved these classic tv shows and movies, I always look forward to a new video from you. You’re a favorite ! Other classic tv shows homes I would love to see are: Courtship of Eddie’s Father, That Girl, Nanny and The Professor, and the original Bob Newhart Show. One kind of out of the box would be Starsky and Hutch apartments. Others Bonanza, Family Ties and Eight is Enough. Movie ones: You Got Mail ( Kathleen Kelly’s apartment), Christmas Vacation, Mary Poppins ( The Banks’ house), and The Sound of Music Thank you for all you do to bring these to us!
@@lindyf3318 Funny you should mention Mary. That's the next one I'm doing. I'll be adding Rhoda's apartment and WJM. I needed to redo it anyway. It was one of the first ones I did when I was just learning the software.
@@MarinaCoatesMockingbirdLane This is all good news (although I didn't know Mary's apartment needed redoing- I'm sure as the artist, you're aware of tweaks you want to make. I'm excited about Bob Newhart, Rhoda's apartment, and WJM. Bonanza, Eight is Enough, and The Sound of Music are some of my favorites of Lindy's suggestions.
@@MarinaCoatesMockingbirdLane I love when you add scene shots of the show for the room as well, I’m excited to see Mary and Rhoda’s apts :) Don Drappers Apartment from Mad Men is beautiful, I’d love to see that done too :)
What a Wonderful Look back ,Such a Classy Place,People dressed so nice then and The whole atmosphere was so Classy,Kathy Garbor still sounds and looks young ,Wonderful Show!
One good episode when Buffy gets to see the circus in the family living room ... cheered her up . May Brian Keith , Sabastian Cabot , and Anissa Jones RIP .💐🌷🌻🌺🌼🌹
I'm happy to finally see this episode. This is my all time favorite fictional apartment. It made such an impact on me. Love that you got Kathy Garver on!
This swanky apartment was a dream for many of us youngsters growing up at that time. How exciting that you were able to get Kathy Garver to share some memories. I got the privilege of meeting Sebastian Cabot in 1973 when I was ten years old. He and another actor, Lloyd Nolan, were having dinner together at a steak restaurant attached to a bowling alley that my family frequented. The bowling alley manager knew that my sister and I would be excited to meet Mr. French so he privately told us, not wanting to bombard the two gentlemen with fans while they were eating. We went inside and met them, and I got both of their autographs (although I had no idea who Lloyd Nolan was). It was obvious that Mr. Nolan had been drinking quite a bit, but Sebastian Cabot was very friendly and gentlemanly, just like his character. It was such a cool experience for a little kid!
You did an amazing job, again, Marina! Wow, I thoroughly enjoyed this, and great to have Kathy Garver give some commentary! I loved the show, and the cast, and of course the luxurious apartment! Thank you for another great tour! 😊
Thank you for uploading this, Miss Coates! My friend turned me on to "Family Affair", and I tried to record all of the episodes from the wonderful Decades Channel - So colorful, such a spread of a home, such "Life's Lessons" to learn! I agree with Miss Katherine Garver about EVERYTHING - ESPECIALLY this world being SO CHAOTIC now - I MISS THE WAY THINGS USED TO BE! 🙂🙂🙂
You're welcome. I love making these tours. This was one of my favorite shows growing up too. You can see all of the other TV and movie home tours I've made here: ru-vid.comvideos?view_as=subscriber

I watch 2 episodes of this show every single night. It's hard to believe how much the children change over the course of the 5 seasons. You could always tell that Uncle Bill LOVED those children! He teared up quite frequently when one of them touched his heart - which was just about every episode. Cannot speak for sure, but I think he had a favored love for Jody. I think they had worked together before this show? Anyway, those were definitely the days!
Thank you! I had fun doing it. And, of course, was thrilled to get an interview with Kathy Garver. That was the icing on the cake. Nothing like getting stories first hand from someone that was there.
Thank you! With all of the strife in the world, this brings me a wonderful sense of comfort and nostalgia. Thank you for sharing and for researching for us to enjoy!
I was one of subscribers who kept pestering you for Family Affair lol... And you did not disappoint! This has to be my favourite upload. Unlike Bewitched and Jeannie, this was not a magic-based show but boy did it have a magic all is own. Thank you Marina!
One of my favorite shows growing up. If I had the money I would build a home following this type of design because it reminds me of my home growing up. I love the colours and use of wood because it made the home very cozy as I remember my home. Many of the 70's homes I loved because they were in the same era, like the Brady Bunch, Courtship of Eddies Father, Mary Tyler Moores apartment etc.
Yes, I think the colors and the woods are a big part of the warmth and charm. You can see all of the other TV and movie home tours I've made here: ru-vid.comvideos?view_as=subscriber
Wow!! Can you imagine $85-95,000/mth! Uncle Bill was loaded! Absolutely loved this tour! Thank you SO much for your efforts. It is so appreciated. I’d love to see Sound of Music house! I’d also be interested in the Cosby house, Fresh Prince of Belair, Fraiser (love Fraiser’s apt, but how mysterious is Niles’ house??), and how about Happy Days/Lavern &Shirley!? So many possibilities!! ❤️❤️
Me too! It held up well too. I would happily move in as is. You can see all of the other TV and movie home tours I've made here: ru-vid.comvideos?view_as=subscriber
Regularly watched this show, with my 2 older sisters. Always liked Brian Keith. Admittedly never thought too much about their apartment but nonetheless I enjoyed the videos are sooooo cool. Brings back lots of memories.
It’s amazing that as soon as I started watching your video, I could immediately hear the Family Affair theme song in my head! It’s amazing how visuals can conjure up a long forgotten memory. Another great step back into the 60’s! Thank you for the interview too. 💗
Love it! Thank you for keeping iconic architecture and classic design alive. You are the keeper of mid century America - thank you for your dedication and excellent work.
Wow, you really brought their apartment to life. I watch this show almost every day, the kids were adorable and loving and kind. Cissy was the best big sister always caring for her little sister and brother. Great work, thank you so much, I love their home.
This was great! I've watched this show so many times over the years, but most of these details got past me. I really enjoyed seeing the apartment in all its glory. And Kathy Garver's narration added an extra dimension to the video. Excellent video!
Thank you! I'm now completely convinced (after this and the Parent Trap tour) that the reason I loved Brian Keith so much was because of the set designers in his movies.
I loved this Marina!! You did an awesome job once again. I just finished watching all 5 seasons of this show and I still love Uncle Bill's apartment. I just knew there had to be another bathroom somewhere for the kids because I just couldn't see them using Uncle Bill's tub every night! LOL! Thanks for bringing back so many good childhood memories!
I loved this! I always loved that apartment and to see it showcased like this meant alot! Saying THANK YOU is not enough to let you know I appreciated this!
What a special talent you possess to bring these movie and television homes to life. Thank you so very much. I hope someday you can get around to showcasing the beautiful home featured in "Guess Who's Coming To Dinner." THAT is my dream home! Wishing you great success.. Take care.
That is one of my absolute favorites. I just watched the movie again recently and turned to my husband and said - Well, I'm definitely going to do this home! The patio and view from the patio are also amazing.
I just loved watching Family Affair, just get all excited of the beginning of series with theme music and who would forget the Jewels sparkling ,moving around. All of the Characters of the show I just miss them. Thanks for this video,it brings back memories.
Glad it brought back good memories for you. It did for me too as I made it. You can see all of the other TV and movie home tours I've made here: ru-vid.comvideos?view_as=subscriber
I just love this channel! It's wonderful! Did you ever think of doing the Lucy and Ricky Riccardos Connecticut home? That was such a great house but we only saw very limited room views.
Wonderful, loving your videos they are all exemplary and full of fantastic information. We would love it if you would do the Golden Girls home and the homes from Frasier. Thank you for putting in such extensive effort in all of your videos. Warm wishes.
I love the fact about the square footage and monthly rent in today’s dollars. I have been trying to figure that out for years. Thanks again for the great job.
With so many perverts in Hollywood, I just felt in my heart that Brian Keith not only was not one of them, but must have really loved children in real life. I'm glad that I was right. Fantastic actor who is greatly missed.
@@MarinaCoatesMockingbirdLane There was a movie that he played in where him and his partner were the bad guys. I don't recall the name of the movie. I did not like seeing him as the bad guy at all. I do wish they would show reruns of Hardcastle and McCormick. I haven't seen that show since it originally aired.
@@MarinaCoatesMockingbirdLane before I forget, I wanted to ask if I'm the only one who sees a resemblance between the kid who played Jody and Brian Keith. Whoever did the casting on that show did a fantastic job. You would swear that that kid was his real life son instead of his fictitious nephew.
It began the year before I was born-I would have been around four when it ended. I have vague recollections of Jody and Buffy. I always had a “crush” on Uncle Bill. But mostly what I remember is my own Mrs. Beasley, which I still have today. She’s one of two dolls I’ve had for as long as I have memory. Thank you for the fun tour!
Yes! I met Red Fox, back in the day in Las Vegas in the elevator. My heart dropped! As it did when I met John Wayne in the elevator in Houston, Tx....he was on a gurney enroute for heart surgery, Dr. Michael DeBakey was his cardiologist. He was also my father's.
Loved this show I was 9 in 1971 the last season I loved the apartment and wanted to live in Nyc I was close living in Brooklyn and Queens about it 7or 8 miles outside the city Brian keath was everyone uncle bill 💕
II'm 60 years old and this is one of my favourite childhood TV series. It was synchronised by German actors as all foreign movies are here but it still was THE USA for us kids back in the day. Thank you for bringing these memories back. TV wasn't a big thing in my childhood. There were only 4 channels and only 6 hours of program on workdays, on Sundays it was like 10 hours. We spent most of our time playing outside or doing chores and homework, so watching a program was a Family Affair in itself. We all sat together watching, except for Mum who was always busy. I remember Dad trying to explain that this was a very rich and privileged American family and most people in the USA would live a much different life but I loved the characters and their home, I wouldn't care. At that age, in my opinion Americans lived either like Uncle Bill or like Hoss Cartwright... 😂
This was one of my favorite tv 📺 shows , i just loved them ❤ I always wanted to live there , and since i lived in NJ IT COULDNT BE FAR LOL , SO AWESOME THK YOU FOR SHARING THIS AND I LOVE KATHY GARVER (CISSY) i adored the twins buffy and jody , Anissa jones and johnny whitaker, mr french was a real sophisticated man , i loved him too Sebastián Cabot and Brian Keith uncle bill ❤ they were perfectly matched
Awesomejob, as always, Marina! And what a treat to see Miss Garver! She hit it right on the head: shows like Family Affair, Leave It To Beaver, The Andy Griffith Show and others are nothing less than emotional comfort food in a mad world starving for a little gentleness and kindness, whereas so much of today’s programming consists of nothing but empty calories often leaving a sour or bitter taste behind. Thanks so much to you and Miss Garver! Wishing you both a happy and blessed Easter!
I would still LOVE to have an interview with you too. I'm sorry it didn't work out. Maybe when I do the Christmas tour later this year with the home decorated for the holidays? 🤞 I know viewers would love that.
Wow. Just amazing! I loved that home. My favorite was the living room with the beautiful fireplace and extended base that became planters. The patio was an extension of that living space. The tactful and balanced use of wood and stone throughout was just beautiful. The detail that went into that set was absolutely breathtaking. You did such a great job with this video. You’re work is beyond excellent. Thank you!👍🏼👍🏼
You described it perfectly! I should have had you help with the script. 😉 You can see all of the other TV and movie home tours I've made here: ru-vid.comvideos?view_as=subscriber
Wow!..here I am, binge watching the show, after seeing it as a kid in the 70's, and "boom"!...here comes Marina with this awsome bonus!...adding a whole new level and layer of enjoyment to my viewing experience!...kudos to you!
This is absolutely wonderful. Thank You and Thanks to Kathy Garver for taking the time to join in. I never noticed how many built in cabinetry were in this apartment. I see too how Jody’s room was a storage closet. It didn’t have a walk-in closet but built cabinets. As a new home sales broker we all know closets are what make the bedroom a bedroom. Great job I thoroughly enjoyed watching. I always thought if I could live in a TV show home it would be Bewitched, along with many more people but now I think this would be my dream home…and I’m a country girl. You definitely showed things I would never thought of especially the back elevator.
Good timing that you found this then. I love this show! You can see all of the other TV and movie home tours I've made here: ru-vid.comvideos?view_as=subscriber
I enjoy when you point out how certain walls or rooms changed over the years. I don't think most of us noticed since we were into watching the show. I probably still don't pay attention even though you have pointed them out.🙃
Glad you liked it. I have made many other homes too. You can see all of the other TV and movie home tours I've made here: ru-vid.comvideos?view_as=subscriber
I love this series. Thanks for taking us on the tour. As a kid watching the show, I loved the coziness of the apartment & of course, those doors. Seeing Kathy was so special, she was my favorite character. I thought she was so pretty & I always loved her look; more grown up than Buffy & Jody but still young. It was wonderful to go back for a visit. I agree with her thoughts on why the show was loved; it was warm & friendly & felt like a safe place & it was the relationships that really stick out in my mind.
This one was super complicated. Not just a whole warren of rooms, but all of those odd angles. It's the most difficult one you have tackled as yet. But it came out very cohesive. Love the floor plan. The kids lucked out with Uncle Bill. Huge place to live, with servants, and a nice uncle. It was special having Kathy Garver, too. Can't believe they had to buy their own clothes. You did well with the art works. Hope some of my ideas helped. Thanks again.
Thank you. Glad you liked the tour. Having Kathy's interview was great. Thanks for helping look for the artwork. I wish we could have found some of the ones from the show. Maybe next time.
Great job. I always loved Kathy Garver as Cissy, she was one of the most likable characters on a TV family show, and I still enjoy watching Family Affair to this day. I suspect Kathy herself is just as nice as Cissy.
