Clomper the cat stole the show. The way she landed on the dinner table was hilarious. It was obvious she was tossed up there from off camera but it was funny.😂
... Meredith Baxter is the daughter of a Woman by the name of Whitney Blake Baxter, ... who is best known for playing the mother on the TV show Hazel, her character's name was Dorothy but Hazel always calls her Missy, where ironically the Family's last name was also Baxter ... after she divorced her first husband she went on to marry somebody else who was a TV producer and the TV show One day at a time... is based on Whitney Blake's life ... and gospel singer Cissy Houston was a fan of the TV show Hazel and when she saw Whitney's first name she decided to name her daughter that as well... so pop singer Whitney Houston is named after Whitney Blake
This guy is out of the blue and so far along. One episode Nancy is married to Jeff. Then Nancy is a single mom. Then Nancy is married again. Then Nancy is getting married to this guy. I never saw any other episodes of this guy.
Love how they keep reminding us to stay tuned next week is The Greatest American Hero...." Believe it or not I'm walking on air I never thought I could feel so free Flying away on a wing and a prayer Who could it be? Believe it or not it's just me" LOL
😅 That was the song that George Costanza used 4 his answering machine on Seinfeld! "Believe it or not George isn't at home, sooo he cannot pick up the phone!" HYSTERICAL!!😅
Good grief! They're whining about being 50. They look and act like they're considerably older, expecially the mother. Interesting how society changes, in some regions.
They were miscast evidenced by the fact that they had to advance the ages of both Nancy and Willie by roughly ten years by series end in order to accommodate the perception that they were actually the children of Doug and Kate. No doubt if the show was cast today it would’ve been an actress around the age Meredith Baxter was in 1979 playing Buddy and Annie’s mother.
@@jldraw I was referring to the scriptwriting, not what the actors looked like. Back then (and still in some regions), being in one's 50s is "old". Heaven forbid one would go for a walk, ride a bike, stretch, or any other activity. It's much better to gripe about aches, being tired and changes in the world. Also, Meredith Baxter's character was supposed to be around 30 years old. To cast her as the mother of two children (ages12 and 15, about.) would've been even worse. That would've made Baxter's character pregnant at 15.
@@jenniferwilcox9759By the end of the series Nancy was in her thirties. At the outset she was considerably younger as was Willie. They were aged up to make up for how much older Sara and James appeared.
R.I.P. David Birney as (Joe Alcott) (April 23, 1939- April 29, 2022) (Alzheimer's Disease) 2nd Ex-husband (of 3 ), to 2nd wife, actress Meredith Baxter, (Nancy Maitland), & father to three of her 5 children; daughter Kate, & twins Mollie & Peter. Baxter & Birney met in 1972, while co-starring in the sitcom Bridget Loves Bernie, & were married from 1974-1990.
In 1 Corinthians 6:9-11 , God=Lord Jesus Christ warns of sodomite sexual immoral behavior and if those keep doing it and don't stop those won't enter heaven later. Unfortunately there is no rest for the unrepentant and the disbelieving in the lake of fire and brimstone . It is the second death.
That's horrible to say another day another lay for Nancy she's young and separated and divorced. She's a beautiful young woman why shouldn't she want to get married again..I wish her the best.
The cat was the best part of the episode for me. This episode seemed to be skewed in favor of "Poor Joe." He even admitted being with a 13-year-old when he was 19! What a dangerous and slanted viewpoint.
I have to watch it again as he did not say how old he was at the time.

19 year old hitting on a 13 year old girl would not get understanding today, rightfully so. And from what statistics show that no amount of therapy cures a pedophile’s issues.

Have you ever noticed that whenever they open the refrigerator it’s to take out the milk? So it’s milk all day and cocktails all night in that household😂😂😂
Chocolate is toxic to cats. And what idiot allows an animal to walk/lick/sniff all of the kitchen counter and food prep area? Disgusting! Great episode, nonetheless.
I agree. Who knows what the cat has been into and they lick their body to clean themselves and then you are going to let them lick your food. I love cats but if one got up on my counter, I would scrub it or touched my food, I would throw it out.
Any normal cat turns their nose up at chocolate so really the claim that it's toxic is nonsense! My cats lick chocolate ice cream, never an issue. Dark Chocolate is what is Toxic to Dogs!
The way Nancy treated the kid was sick I mean yeah we know he didn’t do anything but you cannot just go harass the other side you should be concerned for the child and it sounds like he does have issues like in the past !
Not to say because children are always important. But when a child falsely accuses someone..... That someone has a family too. And then their children suffer based off of a lie .
There are door lawyers. They practice whatever comes through the door. The bar tests on multiple subjects so an attorney can be in several areas of law.
Just like doctors who are general practitioners, there are also journeyman lawyers who take whatever case comes their way. Just like doctors who can't all be brain surgeons or heart specialists, not all lawyers are just tax lawyers or hotshot trial lawyers . They all have to make a living.
OMG--he admits to an offense against a 13 year old girl, and Nancy says, "OK, how about dinner tomorrow?" And Kate and Ms. Junior Feminist Buddy are like, "Make mincemeat out of that kid!" Can't believe what I'm hearing...
The reality is, most teenage girls want to be with and actively seek out to hang around older teenage boys. And if you're their parent, they definitely won't tell you anything about it. Have fun thinking about that when you sleep at night. Just a little dose of reality which is something I think people need a little more of.
@@ShawnBen It wasn't cringe worthy then. On an episode of Mary Tyler Moore from 1975, Murray's 15 year old daughter goes on a date with a 19 year old. Ted Baxter fixed her up on the date!
What a handsome couple! I'm only sorry to find out, much later, that he was emotionally abusive to Meredith for their entire marriage. What a shame he didn't seek help before she was forced to divorce him.
@@willaknotts1298 agreed. However they were long divorced (1989) when she came out in the 2000’s. She claims she didn’t know she was a lesbian until after her 3rd divorce.
You aren’t the only one who tends to personalize this. As much as I enjoy the work of David Birney and Meredith Baxter, I tend to watch “Bridget Loves Bernie” with a cold heart now given Meredith’s revelations about David. When you have two actors who were married to one another while being together onscreen as well it makes it difficult to divorce theatre from reality. Although both actors are playing character roles, as a viewer my mind tends to wander towards what happens offscreen, is Bernie punching Bridget in the face when we aren’t looking? “Family” hits home for me as well as I was for all intents and purposes raised by a young single mother in the seventies and she too had a kid brother who was perpetually at loose ends. So suffice to say a lot of parallels.
@@JoanCrawfordsghost You are right! I love her except for this..no compassion. The joke she makes about a chicken once and the lobster and oooh. The way she has no feeling for the dog, puppy and cat in a few episodes. I'm a big animal lover and advocate. And, Nancy obviously was a dog person, she treated the cat so badly.
Yes, hence the name Meredith Baxter-birney. I love her. she is great as an actress. she played an angry ex-wife (Betty Broderick), a nurse with addiction issues (Darkness Before Dawn), a woman with an eating disorder (Kate's Secret) and many others.
There aren't a lot of spaces in my house my cats aren't allowed but I draw the line at kitchen counters. They're not allowed up at any time - especially not when cooking!
Chocolate is toxic to cats and dogs. And the family seems to despise animals on this series. With the exception of Willie, Annie and Buddy, well, 1/2 is better than not.
Another odd thing is that this guy has a daughter, Nancy is going to marry this guy and she never met the daughter and the daughter doesn't even know who Nancy is.
I don’t understand what’s the matter with so many people. Does anybody realize that the show had great discussion points for families and that’s what it was all about it was about doing things that could be wrong, but discussing it with your family and getting through together I don’t know what’s a matter with people.
Poor Willie, his date sneezing like that. Clumper was a sweetie. But you don't give a cat cow milk and you don't give a cat chocolate. I know Willie didn't actually give the cat chocolate but chocolate is toxic to kitties. I wish more shows would have kitties. They make a great addition to everything, especially life.
Was he going to marry her and throughout the whole marriage say there was no cat while the wife sneezes throughout the entire marriage? What's this feline in the shower? What feline?@@christynr1388
Times are SO much different now Thankfully there is burden of proof taken more seriously Nancy would not have approached that kid The 19 with age 13 is creepy
The whole premise seems a bit far fetched -- unless David Birney pulled an event from his real life (the 13 year old). When a 4th grader hatres you, she is more likely to trash your office / have a tantrum.
Wow that child was mad because she wanted Joe for her mother....so she made up the molestation story. Really bad because young gurls don't realize how something like this could ruin a teachers or, cousliners life.
I don't understand this episode because Nancy boyfriend got in trouble with a student. And her parents were like ok with it. And her father saying he a good man. None of the cast questions the script. 😡
They were married for about 15 years. They were divorced. Meredith was married 3 times before coming out as a lesbian. There is a video on youtube where she is being interviewed by Matt Lauer about this. I guess she wanted to tell her side of the story before the tabloids blew it out of proportion. David is deceased now. If you google Meridith, you can see photos of her now.
