Awesome video! thank you for sharing! It's great to see a family going out and capturing the adventure. Too often it's the "Single man camping" like my wife calls it. If you can add a bit more "This is what worked/Didn't work" as a family it would be awesome for us family types. (i.e What kept the boys busy? how often were your stops?...etc?)

I really loved this video! Just finished the whole thing. I've got a family of 6 so it's inspiring to see your family of 4 make it along that route. It looked like a fantastic way to make memories with the family! We are in Western Washington and have been exploring the cascades locally as we are new to overlanding just the last couple of months. The BDR trip is on my list of future adventures. Random question, but what did you use for a bathroom? I know there are many options, just curious what you ended up using. We have a Subaru Ascent, skid plates, all terrain tires on smaller wheels. Next adding prinsu rack and some storage. We'd like to get a 270 awning, perhaps one that converts into a tent since I don't think we can fit all 6 of us in a rooftop tent. :) and I'd rather not carry our regular huge tent we usually use for campsite camping.
@ruggeddestinations7633
@ruggeddestinations7633 Год назад
Thank you so much for watching! Please subscribe to follow along with our future adventures. The BDR is magical, highly recommend. For the bathroom we just use the cat hole method. Our family has a history of backpacking, so this method came natural. Many of the 270 awnings have wall options, and could definitely be converted into a sleeping space.

Love the video! So much appreciate the lens into your family experience, as often I'm only seeing just a couple or a single dude going out. We're a family with three little girls, are in the mountains often overlanding in our Vanagon. Couple questions: Can this BDR be done with a 2WD lifted Vanagon? And how much of the day were you needing to spend driving?
@ruggeddestinations7633
@ruggeddestinations7633 Год назад
Thank you so much for watching! So happy to hear that you all travel as a family. On average we got on the trail around 9am, would have many breaks throughout the day, and finish driving around 5pm. We had a daily goal of 75 miles. That proved to be very attainable. The Vanagon is doable, but I would be very careful about timing and weather conditions. Many of the roads are high elevation. One bad snow or rain storm could create a bad situation with only 2WD.

Might be an odd question, but your son has the identical same rabbit my youngest has. We can't find it's backup, and it's getting really old. Do you by any chance remember where you bought it/what it's called? I think we found ours at a safeway, something like 8 years ago.
@ruggeddestinations7633
@ruggeddestinations7633 9 месяцев назад
We bought ours from Target on clearance 7 years ago! I haven't seen them anywhere since that day, unfortunately. Our son's bunny has undergone a few surgeries to get a 'lift'.

@@ruggeddestinations7633 Yup, same. New feet. New ear liners... Now in need of some new stuffing. We found a jellycat version that was ever so close, but not quite right, for just in case. A couple of near miss store rescues behind us now... Had no idea how important the rabbit would be when purchasing. We bought it while grocery shopping :D Many thanks for the reply.

Great coverage of the WABDR. It’s my goal to do it next year. Any parts where a small off-road trailer would be difficult? What time of year did you do this? ❤️🏔🌲
@ruggeddestinations7633
@ruggeddestinations7633 Год назад
A trailer would be a challenge on some the switch back sections. Would depend on the tow vehicle. It's definitely doable with a trailer though. We did the trip the first week in October. Normal season is from July-October. Just depends on snow load.
