The Subaru Adventure Club did the WABDR last year! Was an absolute blast! We had about 20 cars doing it and only suffered a couple tires and a lower control arm getting damaged.
Whose bright idea was it to make it so you needed a tool to check your air filter? Both of my Jeeps are tool free. Looks like a really fun trip, I’ll have to do that sometime.

Love the video. Been in WA for 6 years and still haven't really explored it. This is now on my bucket list. Was just curious if you thought about taking your 4runner on this trip or if you considered it?
Hey Chris. My wife is pretty stingy with the 4Runner because it’s her favorite. It could’ve done the trip the same if not better in some ways. I love the Taco and 4Runner evenly.
For those doing this be wary of the section around Taklakh lake (I think), they have the bridge blocked off with rocks for what I guess is safety related reasons.
Had a Toyota Camry following me through one section on my trip. They kept getting out and placing rocks in ruts and dips. Not all sections are crazy hard. Lol On the jungle section you better bring some tree pruners otherwise you will definitely go home with forest pinstripes.
We had plenty of days ahead of us that we would be cooking on the trail. I suggested Whistling Jacks, but the group voted as well, for Gold Creek in the morning. We don't need to prove how big of "overlanders" we are by roughing it. We are just out here having a good time. We would love to explore more remote places, but this was the first multiday, multi-campsite trip we have taken as a group. More to come!
"Topping off" the tank is never a good idea. You can cause expensive damage to the charcoal canister in the fuel evaporative system. It's EXPLAINED in the owner's manual and is about $1,600 for the part plus 3 to 4 hours of labor. If you want to carry extra fuel, carry a jerry can or Rotopax. Your vehicle, and wallet, will thank you.
