THIS STORY:
The Fuchs murders of June 1974 turned the summer into one of horror for the quiet Park Ridge neighborhood in which the family of five lived. Though more than four decades have passed since the case was closed in August of that year, it remains a key moment in the town's history. Before mass murders were a common occurrence in headlines and on the nightly news, the Fuchs tragedy was an outlier.
THIS CHANNEL:
_________________________________________________________
The Angel face you see is the Haserot, named “The Angel of Death Victorious". The stoic angel is seated on the marble gravestone of canning entrepreneur Francis Haserot and his family. Holding an extinguished torch upside-down, it represents a symbol of life extinguished. Wings are outstretched and the gaze is straight ahead.
IN THE END, DEATH ALWAYS WINS. LEST THE FACES NOT BE FORGOTTEN...
This channel is focused on casually walking and viewing a handful of the thousands of forgotten names and faces at various cemeteries near and afar. Seeing their faces up close. And when able, telling the stories behind their names.
Most graves are unknown and lost to history.
Some are famous.
And some infamous....
....and some with tragic endings.

Your lifting the covers over the photos of Gustav and Selma Wendt makes me wonder how long it had been since someone lifted those and saw their faces? Those photos certainly are sharp and it's like you gave them a glimpse of the world for just a moment.

I googled the parents' name and the word murder and found an interesting article from the Chicago Tribune that was written in 2015, 41 years after the murder. It gave input from friends and neighbors that suggested that Jeffrey did not like his siblings and had been having issues with his parents, including his mother controlling his life, not letting him drive among other things. Although this video was well done, the article gives a bit more information about possible motive and also Jeffrey's behavior and lack of social skills.

Evening Ron, loved those photos, were still intact, obviously people in this cemetery respect their passed. Jeffrey, I'm assuming, had issues, who knows what? Who can say ,who can judge? But to have no memorial stone for this family? My heart is heavy. Is it because? People judge, his family on Jeffrey? This happens so many times! To myself I find it very disrespectful. They were the victims, they never choose their lives outcome? They should be shown respect. Saying from my ma. Whom I've lost! You can choose your friends but not your family, a wise woman she was.

Someone must have remembered the murders in the 2015 Chicago Tribune. Article then about what happened in 1974. So sad, and hits close to home in my southeast Iowa. Shawn Bentler killed 5 members of his family in Bonaparte, Iowa. Mom, Dad and his 3 beautiful Sisters in 2006. Then in 2016, on my birthday in April, my cousin Tiffany and her Momma were murdered by Tiffany’s estranged husband. Rural Danville, Iowa. Then Tiffany’s soon to be ex killed himself. Tiffany had a restraining order against him, but we all know it’s just a piece of paper. Thugs don’t abide by a piece of paper. So sad for the Fuchs family! Thanks for telling their story!

These are not "faces of the forgotten" these are faces of the remembered. Great work! Also, in eastern Europe they engrave a portrait from a photograph on the tombstone. The family of my girlfriend who die in 1992 in a car crash have her smiling face engraved and I see her every time I drive by the cemetery as her family plot is near the road. They are russian and they told me it's very common there. I saw that form myself as i lived there in 2002-2003. We should do that so our faces will be remembered and forever there for the people to see. ( sorry for my English. It's not my language.)

Is it possible if he was sexually abused? Victims of sexual abuse have a lot of anger, and maybe he snapped? Remember back then there wasn't help like there is now, and it wasn't talked about freely as it is now. Another thing I was wondering, could the kid have been gay, and he didn't know how to deal with it? Maybe he snapped becuase back then that was something most parents could not stomach to hear their son or daughter say. They weren't as liberal minded as they are today. These are just guesses of course. BTW, I'm not praising the kid in the least, but for him to formulate a bomb like that is evident he had some high intelligence.

When I was 12 in 1972, and living in West Jordan Utah, I had rode my bike to a cemetery and found an old monument with a picture of a middle aged woman who had died years earlier. Her name was Lilly Papas Lancaster. That picture Intrigued me so much, and she was so beautiful, I started riding my bike there often to visit her grave and take her flowers. All these years later I can see her face and remember her name. I love the stories you do, I've always loved history. I think its very telling that the parents in the family photo are smiling but the kids have no expressions. I would bet my bottom dollar that something sinister was going on in that family. I think Jeffrey wanted to make sure no one survived to tell the tale.

This reminds me so much of the Grochmal case in Chicopee, Massachusetts. A fairly wealthy family with a very nice house. I was friends with the daughter Denise. Her father got it into his head that he had some fatal disease and that the family would not be able to survive with him. He killed his mother and family dog in the basement. He ended up killing his wife, their son and both daughters before killing himself. This was in about 1981. Such a horrible tragedy.

If you have a close friend , you know if they are the kind to " explode ." I had friend that I knew from another friend , I could see the rage under the neat , ordinary guy . Just things that he said once in a while and looks on his face told me he was volatile . A few years later he was charged for murder . I stopped dealing with him ( thank God ) after he said somethings that really made me think about his repressed anger . There were probably no marker for one of 2 reasons for the Fuchs family. 1) high profile case . 2 ) no will and the parents died in testatate . I would assume the grandmother was the closet next of kin and she would have made all the decisions about the funerals etc , there may have been others helping the grandmother . I think these people were forgotten for reason , either the rest the living next of kin felt the murders were a smear on the name or no one would ever visit the the graves due to the trauma from the entire ordeal . But we never know what goes in other people's homes or how people really live ! Someone in the exstended family knew or knows why the kid had a mental break ! I am disappointed that the cemetery cannot point to exact spot to where the family are interred , 1974 was not that long ago . ! Most cemeteries know every inch of ground , because it's big business . But I noticed that some spots are not looked after very well .

Thank you Ron. Such a sad story, but there was definitely something wrong in the family. If the Mother was controlling and drank maybe she was abusive verbally and physically. Maybe the father beat the boys, who knows! Being the eldest son he would have been treated differently to the youngest child who perhaps got away with things. There is something dark in my opinion, that this boy endured to commit murder of his whole family yet take the dog to safety and give his Grandma his year book and diploma, maybe she knew the secret of what really went on, as giving her these things tells me he knew she loved him and knew the real situation. Thank you 💕🇦🇺

Now Out of this family did they have any relatives living around them aunts uncles cousins nieces nephews .? I mean it seems strange that there was no relatives that had to help set that funeral . As for the one Grave that you did show they had the same last name I’m taking it that it was a great great grandparent or could’ve been a great great uncle, maybe they got some kind of illness and died who knows but doing research on that one person Might open up answers
