I have been forced to binge delete. I learned the hard way that late night tree climbing is not a good thing. Twice I have added a person, while dead tired, and it was not a relative. So then, I add the spouse, kids, father, etc... Realizing the next time I sign in that that original add was not even related to anyone in my tree. Then I am forced to binge delete 200 or more new additions. I've done it twice! I emphasize twice. Never again when I'm tired!

Love the underscore idea AND the explanation behind it. There were plenty of other tips too. But it was a great overall session that is both a reminder and a double check that we are doing things the right way for both us and how the system works.

@@miriamschiro8585 I have a line like that. For me it is just the first letter of the first name and the last name. It was on the death records for the father of my GG grandmother. When she died it listed her father with just one letter for the first name and the last name.

If you do surnames that you are certain about in UPPER CASE, and ones you aren't certain about in (lower case) you know who the unknown one is related to. Using underscores you don't know.

I learned about the 1930 census asking if you had a radio:...I checked my paternal grandparents home and nobody on the page had a radio...everyone was poor in Oklahoma in 1930.

The data entry screen at 1:11:30 has introduced some new bugs. It no longer shows the user corrected data as possible alternatives. So when Ancestry have made a mistake in their transcriptions, you no longer get the change to even see the correct data here. You have to look at the record first and remember the user corrections; then enter them yourself in the data entry screen. Massive step backwards.

Hey Folks! If you're in Austin, TX you can access Ancestry and other genealogy databases for FREE at the Carver Museum Genealogy Center and all city libraries. Same is true for at the TX Capitol's genealogy library in Austin. FYI... Maybe there are public spaces in your city that provides free access too.

One of my cousins entered a great grandparent that lead to a few remarkable ancestral lines. However, it can't find that ancestor anywhere but the tree he created. I need to find his source to confirm that that ancestor is correct. How do I do that? It is driving me insane.

Learned how to show a parental relationship for a child born outside of marriage but not list the person as another spouse. Question: If I am a member but do not have a subscription can I see/add the information in a census record?

I have a question or two. First let me say, I'm adopted and I've had 2 separate trees on Ancestry for years. One for my adopted family and one for my biological family to go with my DNA results. I decided I would try and build a new tree to include everyone but I'm already running into problems. Why don't all my siblings show up in my timeline on my profile? And why when looking at printing a report does it not distinguish my parents as adoptive and biological and also not listing my sons fathers, one shows and the other doesn't, whom I was not married to? Plus I'm not sure that I want to constantly have to make a switch in preferred parents in order to see the separate trees. Can't something simpler be done?

After doing family history research since the 1990s, I am highly disappointed with the newest changes in Ancestry. While there may be "60 billion records" its becoming more and more unreliable and frustrating since 2023 to get much research accomplished through Ancestry database. The amount of non-specific data that comes through for a specific search is disappointing and frustrating. The newest DNA "updates" have messed up my family history DNA tremendously. I know where my family came from, and this new DNA update is completely wrong. I am beginning to recognize that an Ancestry subscription is getting pretty useless.

There is another one that they stated the same thing about this ancestry company and said that that’s how they got started because we want answers and we want reliable answers.
