Kentucky Fish & Wildlife seized a Grant County family's pet bobcat in February. The family, and a district judge, are trying to ensure the bobcat finds a home and will not be euthanized.
I had a cat whose only "crime" was being born on my back porch. If NY state had figured out what she was they would have confiscated my cat, euthanized her, then charged me with a crime of having an "illegal F1 feral" be born on my porch. She was the most affectionate mewling puking fluffball I ever had the honor of living with, even if she could be a bit of a "pet me now" pest.
The bobcat can be sent to a sanctuary. It can never be released in the wild, since it was raised by humans and did not learn hunting skills from its mother. But there are sanctuaries which give them a home in a large, natural setting for life.
@@4Nanook I would much rather the ignorance of folks in this comment section be put down. But if you think murdering humans is a solution for anything...God help you.
Euthenized if not placed in an appropriate home? He was in an appropriate home. What the hell. They did everything to assure the safety for the public, and the did everything to assure the safety and wellbeing for their cat. That is not fair. I say boo to the neighbor that stuck their nose into other people business. This may cost the life of a beautiful, happy, and loving cat. Boo to you neighbor!
@@hezekiahramirez6965 Sometimes "experts" are wrong. This vet does not account for the fact that this cat was hand raised and has been domesticated. What is right action now has to be different than had this cat been raised in the wild or to be wild.
@@sleverlight That's EXACTY what I want to know as well... "He is too domesticated at this point." ...what studies or experience is @colleensporter basing this on? Did she even site ANYTHING???
@@oakmaiden2133 if you can buy it and it’s not a person and there is no abuse and they are well caged what is the problem the tigers in captivity aren’t even real wild tigers. They’re genetic mutations make them so much susceptible to problems. That half of the litter always gets put down. Why does it always have to be a Kevin or a Karen that wants to impede somebody’s fun because they can afford it.
He could do for himself but he wouldn't be happy now. He has a pack and it would be wrong to separate him from his pack. He would seek out other people and then someone may harm him or kill him. The only safe place for h now is where he is.
@@mts7274 Not from what I have seen. Bobcat mothers teach their offspring various lessons about being a bobcat, just as other species' mothers teach their offspring.
Please, if these people can't keep him, and can't move to a state that allows bobcats to be kept, please, PLEASE send him to a sanctuary. Killing this PET in NOT the answer.
" We want what is best for the cat " so we will put him down if we cannot find a proper environment for him. Stupid over reaching government. Cat looks healthy and happy, that seems to be a good home.
@@barbaramarrs5113 - killing this cat is not in his best interest. His people should know better, right? They can, if they really wanted to, find him a sanctuary that will take good care of him. Saying they'd rather see him dead makes me wonder if they aren't the best possible home for him.
@@lagopusvulpuz1571 we had a bobcat show up at my boarding school. I had a large cat named Gato who beat his butt and chased him back across the river. He showed up every once in awhile, and I’m not sure what exactly the problem was between the two, but no way could a bobcat take down a human! I’m not worried about it. What I AM worried about is dangerous nosey neighbors! Maybe they could make a law against HER, shift HER to another state or put HER to sleep. Now THAT would be a law I could get behind 😎

When laws are stupid, it's time to change the laws. If legislatures won't change the stupid laws, it's time to change the legislatures. This cat is as domesticated as any, exotic though it is. The bigger crime is taking it away from the family that it has grown up with and bonded with. The cat is hurt, confused, and alone right now. Time to change the way we think about this.
Obviously, Bain the bobcat is eating well...he looks very healthy to me. He should be allowed to stay with it's current family....give us a break. This is what's wrong with the judicial system
I did not learn the part of pet history when all pets started out domesticated. As for this bobcat, he was created from domesticated bobcats. Since he's legal in the state he came from, most likely a long line of domestication, if he's from a breeder. Therefore they can argue the bobcat is as wild as a cat bred from a wild cat bloodline. The bobcat is domesticated.
Don't have children if you're not prepared to love them. Exterminate pitbulls, that party grog of terror dog. You're weird to think rotties unpopular, much less that a constrictor is for everyone. The bobcat is innocent.
I rescued a bobcat kitten once. I was 15 and I found him all alone, his mother had been killed by a coyote and I felt obligated to take him in. My dad was worried initially but we started feeding him and just sort of learned along the way. My one female cat had been fixed but she raised a litter of kittens once and decided to raise him too. I called him Rob, we learned his feeding requirements and he was never hungry. My female cat Maz raised him right. Vet never complained about him and he was my constant companion till about 6 years ago. Rob was slowing down and getting old, he knew it and so did I. I had taken to giving him stuff for his joints and stuff for his aches and pains. The night he died we were discussing what to do when he just walked into the room curled up beside me and just slowly and quietly passed on. He saved us the pain of putting him down by doing it himself after nearly 20 years as a loved pet. Rob passed his lessons on how to cat to a pair of male kittens I adopted when he was 13 or 14. I still walk the woods hoping to find another one like my pal Rob Zombie the bobcat.
Jail???? These people are crazy!!!!! People get convicted for second degree manslaughter and never see the inside of a jail. We are truly living in bizzaro land today!!!!
I had a wild bobcat kitten walk right up & climb on my lap last year. It was so sweet. We own property in the Smoky Mountains & I’m originally from Florida. I would not have thought twice about moving home to Florida to keep it.
I would of stayed still in case mama was near by! I would of been honored to be “chosen” by a wild bobcat, but it’s a wild bobcat. As a hunter (shoot it I eat it unless diseased or hit by a car) I actually love and respect predators, I left them the heck alone!
I wonder who told on them, and why. They said they had him for at least 2 years, someone was upset about something. Didn't they also say that the cat never left the house? So it was someone who heard that they had a bobcat, or someone who was invited into their home.
Media will tell you anything they want. A neighbor probably did not tell on the family. The state was probably watching the family social media, and because that's illegal to watch, they used the neighbor excuse. BUT, if a neighbor did tell on the Bobcat family, shame on them.. All round terrible.
Hi yer name? haha.......; I think? I'm funny I don't think others think I'm as funny as I think I am though haha, sometimes my own comments make me wanna pee myself haha....., no I don't wanna be a comedian either haha, although I could act goofy in a movie for the right price though I suppose.... haha, but no I'm good on that haha, ok big shot big Susan Farley, I'm gonna read yer comment now.
I would hope when someone gets an exotic pet they would check their Local and State Laws! I also hope the Daughter gets the Bobcat as it would still be a part of the family!
Human beings can be so cruel! I hope the cat is saved! The cat was happy with its family. However, I am glad the Judge is giving the time to find the bobcat a home.
A bobcat isn't a big deal, but they shouldn't have moved into a state with a Bobcat if it wasn't legal, I suppose. Why did the neighbor have to complain?
@@susanfarley1332 Neighbors should mind their own business. A house bobcat is tame enough. Maybe the family lived in Kentucky and just legally bought him from Arkansas and thought no problem. Bobcats and Lynxes are not that far off from our regular cats in terms of size and behavior. A sweet couple on RU-vid have two wonderful bobcats.
@@QUINTUSMAXIMUS I used to have a cat that looked a lot like a bobcat. Little stubby tail , and the coloring was close. In the winter when she got her winter coat she had the cheek fur like a bobcat. And not a bobcat characteristic, she had polydactylism (extra toes). Beautiful sweet cat. She disappeared for a year and reappeared. She must have had kittens in that year and a dog must have gotten them because when she came back, she didn't like dogs near her kittens. I lost her when she snuck out when she was due to have kittens. Could not find her at all. Three weeks later my neighbor called to tell me she attacked their dog. He told me her kittens were playing on the lumber in their back yard and his daughter set their dog on them. Mama cat went after the dog and the lady got bit when she tried to stop them from fighting. Even though my cat was vaccinated the dog catcher took her and she was put down. At least I got the kittens so they could be bottle fed. They were too young to lose their mom. Had to go to court about it. Dog catcher said I violated the leash law. The judge got mad at him because he was stupid and thought leash law applied to cats. Dropped the case. I knew a lady that had a bobcat regular cat hybrid. He was the result of a bobcat mating with her cat. He was big with a stubby tail and he was quite the Romeo with the local female cats. Lots of stubby tailed kittens. He ended up saving the old lady's life when a man tried to invade her home. He broke out the window in her door and was reaching for the lock when the cat shredded his arm. Later he came back when she wasn't home and broke a window and threw in poisoned meat. Poor cat. PS. Almost forgot. The first time the guy tried breaking in, he dropped the Bowie knife he was carrying.
There are so many strange inhumane laws in US. When I was in Florida, I found a baby opossum in a dead mother body. I started nursing him, but I have found in the law of Florida, people cannot keep opossum as a pet, but people can kill opossum legally. What a inhumane law! Unfortunately, the baby opossum could not survive, but I had a dream to live with him.
The more I see of court cases, the more disgusted I am with our "justice" system. It's not about what's really right but about a ridged law and the judges personal biases
I would've moved to the state where I got him, especially if it was legal to own him in that state! I can't believe they didn't check with their own state before bringing him home. 🤦🏻♀️ ALWAYS check your state laws BEFORE getting an unconventional pet!!
Its just a Bob-cat, not much bigger than house cats. Since they have all the means to keep it from getting lose, its no danger to the public. At best a bobcat can take down chickens, but so can domestic dogs and cats.
That veterinarian is a small minded thinker, there are exceptions to every rule and obviously this bobcat , tho' descended from wild cats, is fully a DOMESTICATED PET and quite loved and well cared for. Whoever reported this cat to the authorities was a jealous sneaky POS and their karma will return to them in spades...can't stand creeps like that. Hoping for the best outcome for this beautiful cat and his loving family !
This beautiful creature is potty trained in a human toilet. He doesn't belong in the wild. He's happy. He's living his best life. He has shelter, food, and all the love he can take. Let's destroy that and this perfectly beautiful soul. What's wrong with certain aspects of society. Who would complain about something so majestic. Humans can be so ugly and disappointing. God Bless this beautiful creature and these loving humans. I pray with all my heart for a Happy outcome. ❤❤❤❤❤
That poor cat must be going through hell. He was ripped from his family! I have domestic cats and when we are gone for a week, they are SOOOO happy when we come back and get them from the pet boarder. I can't imagine what the cat is going through, much less the people. It's like a divorce where you get visitation. Like having your baby ripped from you.
The State & vet need to think about what the present needs are of this particular family's cat. He has been quite tamed & he should stay with his bonded family. It would be a shame if he was kept in a zoo type setting without the human affection he currently is used to & rmenjoys.
People are absurdly mean. This cat has been loved, cared for, protected and is every bit as part of the family to them as our cats or dogs are to us. The person who complained .....what a sad disgusting lonely POS. Their situation was not dangerous or harming others.
We had a Persian Tabby Bobcat mix years ago. Looked like a Persian except for the ear stuffs and size. He was the size of our smallest Chow and we had to use a cement mixing pan for a litter box.
Sharky🦈🖐️.... They should be allowed to keep that beautiful cat, it is not worse than keeping pitbulls or other agressive pets. He is safer at home too.🤔🙉👍💓🙏🐈
Why can't they give them a special license to have Bain. It is his home his family that's all he knows. I hope the person that reported them gets a big taste of their own injustice.
Meanwhile you can go out & gat any dangerous dog, today ppl/children will be attacked, maimed or killed by a pitbull. Nobody anywhere has ever been killed by a Bobcat - certainly not a domesticated one - there hv been reports of v rare attacks from bobcats but they are never serious or life threatening.
Pitbulls are NOT dangerous, it's a crappy stereotype that is pervasive because asshole humans try to raise them for pit fights. Pitbulls are actually very sweet and protective in nature.
When I lived in Joshua Tree, there was a woman who had a bobcat because she found it and thought it was a kitten. Eventually it got too used to interacting with humans so she had to keep it. It behaved better than her domestic cats.she’d previously owned decades before.
Since when is euthanasia the right decision? This cat has no illness, shows no hostility, and has been captive it’s whole life. To remove it from its family now would be horrid. It cannot survive without them. Handing it off to a stranger would make it hostile. Putting it in an enclosure with strangers puts it in danger. The only sane option here is to let it be.
Bobcats don't need to be potty trained. They always look for water to go in as it masks their scent from prey. Sometimes they will go in the sink, but they always look for water to pee in so usually its the toilet.
I had one when I was a kid he was great. He just showed up at our house one day. He was with us for two years. And he just wandered on one day.. he would come back and visit the dog once in awhile. About that time we moved. I do understand the concern. They are incredibly strong. You don't understand that till It grab you
This is ridiculous. Give the bobcat back, have the couple sign a form saying they are responsible for him. And if he gets loose and injures/kills another persons pet or another person (especially a child) that they will take full responsibility and face potential criminal charges. And leave the matter at that. The state government should be focusing on other important issues like solving homelessness and getting criminals off the streets. Not go after a couple and their pet over a dumb technicality. All this trouble because someone snitched.
These people and their cat deserve better. These officials are clearly in the wrong, laws which protect no one are pathetic and ought not be obeyed. When Government starts telling people they aren't qualified to determine whether it's safe to have a kinda large cat, we've reached the civil disobedience stage at the very least.
I love this little kitty 💕 I went thru horrors when I had an arctic wolf. I completely understand what they're dealing with. It's ridiculous! We used to be able to have ocelots, caracals and other exotic cats. WTF does SHE KNOW about what's a "proper environment?" My dog went everywhere! Snow, woods, oceans, movie sets and some of the nicest hotels on the planet! She was adored and she was a princess! I got so tired of hearing how 'abused' she was cuz she wasn't scraping for food in the woods somewhere. I bet BANE is one of the happiest cats God ever made! MOVE TO FLORIDA if you have to. Other people should mind their own business! BANE would rather be with HIS PEOPLE, I can assure you that much.
@@fosminclorin a danger how? I’ve lived with wolves half my life. Wolves have been stigmatized by BS wives’ talked for centuries out of Europe. Yet they were some of the first domesticated pets. A tiger I can understand might be a danger, but a dog? I also didn’t hear anything about the bobcat being a danger either. In America we used to be able to have other exotic cats. They’re just small interesting cats, like ocelots, which are like mini leopards. Somebody said ooohh danger! And that was the end of that. Chimps on the other hand.
