Welcome to Hollywood Graveyard, where we set out to remember and celebrate the lives of those who lived to entertain us, by visiting their final resting places. Today we're exploring Pacific View Memorial Park, where we'll find such stars as John Wayne, Marion Mack, Bobby Hatfield, and many more.

I can understand Mr Waynes family not wanting his grave to be sensationalized and perhaps at first it would have been. People I think would come to pay respects and think how his movies affected their lives. Thank you sir

My sister was here for a time before my parents moved her to Rose Hills. When she was here John Wayne’s grave was unnamed because there would have been vandalism. It’s so nice to see the marker.

John Wayne was my Dad and I's favorite movie star! We loved watching movies of his like Big Jake, El Dorado, The Searchers and Rio Bravo. My dad's been gone for almost 9 years now. And every time I watch a John Wayne movie, it brings up happy memories of my dad.

My late grandpa loved John Wayne. He collected quite a assortment of John Wayne merch from his movies, statues, paintings etc. He looked up to him in his younger years including the time he shook hands with John Wayne with the rest of his fellow Marines on the way back from Korea. My grandpa said he was a huge man in stature and had huge hands to boot hence the nick name of "The Duke". John Wayne loved our armed forces and this meeting was no exception, he shook all the Marines hands including my grandpa and thanked them for their service and gave a speech to them. I still miss my grandpa and have great respect to John Wayne and thank him for making my grandpa very happy throughout his life.

I was moved by the quote on John Wayne’s grave plaque. It’s there for the sake of those who come to pay respects, I think, since Mr. Wayne no longer has to deal with day to day concerns. He was one of a kind and is still missed by those who loved his movies. 💐

I attended a service at that cemetary a few years ago and had no idea how many notable people were interned there. It just shows that no matter how exciting or how mundane people's lives are, we all end up in the same condition.

John Wayne is my favorite, because I got to meet him personally in Houston, 1968. He was filming The Hellfighters, story of Red Adair. He approached me and a friend and introduced himself and was very cordial, in the building where we worked and he was filming. I was impressed that he had a giant streamliner kitchen parked in the garage with chefs that he fed the entire crew from. One of the chefs told us that he took that kitchen with him on all his locations where he filmed to feed everyone! The chefs dressed their part, too, by wearing the tall white chef caps. He also had his youngest son about 8 yrs old with him, who ran around playing with a giant toy airplane. A great guy!

I love Hollywood Graveyard, sooooooo much, that each Sunday that a new episode is uploaded, I use it as a motivator, and will not allow myself to watch it, until all my “to do” items, and housework, is DONE. Believe me......the housework gets done! Thanks for my clean house, Arthur Dark!

What is it about this channel or series of videos (Hollywood Graveyard) that keeps me coming back and watching every one of them...even multiple times? Is it the care, the research, the respect, the smooth production and style, the perfect narration, the editing, the mastery? It's all of that. I've seen others that do a similar thing but I have to respectfully say Arthur Dark does the best outstanding and respectfully crafted production of these lost talents. Thank you.

My late grandfather had probably 75-80% of John Wayne's movies on video at the time of his 2011 passing. He truly loved watching John Wayne movies all the time. His favorite was True Grit. Glad to see that he finally did get a marker for his grave. Thanks for including him, Arthur.

This is my third viewing of Hollywood graveyard and I want to commend the narrator for the outstanding combination of editing, producing and by some arcane magic bringing the dead to life and taking the living into death in a seamless collection of videos. I don’t know what his endgame is but this is one hell of a great resume. Thank you for presenting this to the public.

Loved all john Wayne movies..I'm assumed since John Wayne had such an unassuming way about himself he wouldn't have wanted a large headstone but glad they finally put a marker on his grave.I watched an interview way back when Jeanne carman gave a documentary on Marilyn.Love the tour and all the highlights u give on the stars...I love the stars of the past and knowing something about their lives...Classic time.

I have watched many of these gravesite videos, but I must say that I feel yours is by far the BEST. You don't waste time driving around chatting about what you did all day . You zip down the road , telling us about the cemetery. And when you get to the grave, you do a Great job filling us in on the person, and many times playing footage of them singing or acting. You also do a Great job picking the graves. Graves I would like to see are those from "Bewitched", "McHales Navy", "Star Trek", & " Hogan Heroes". Best Wishes and keep up the Great Work.

Lots of the huge stars have very unpretentious graves. Frank Sinatra just has a simple headstone like Wayne's also. Kinda nice to see that they are not in some huge separate mausoleum with their name on it.

Another beautifully presented video, thank you so much. I love the custom of the wind chimes. You truly have a gift for audio, film and presentation and knowledge of film history. Living here in the UK I have been a huge history lover and my knowledge has been best with the usual British history, kings and queens of England, the Tudors etc . My interest in history is branching out into other eras as I have gotten older and matured, can't get enough of film and music history. For a moment of two I can imagine the era of film, music and culture of my grand parents time. May thanks again, for your hard work for such lovely films.

On Christmas Eve 1985, I and 3 others were invited to Bobby Hatfields house in Corona Del Mar by Linda, Bobby's wife. They were very courteous and humble. I was very sad to hear of his passing. He was a very nice person and his wife Linda who is buried beside him. May They rest in peace.

I had never heard of your channel until about twenty minutes ago when your most recent exploration of my home of Orange County popped up in my recommended. The minute I saw your channel name and that you had made videos down here, I knew that at some point you would have visited Pacific View! Pacific View is where my grandmother Elaine has been resting since 2015. In fact, you walked right past her when you visited Jeanne Carmen! She is also located in the Sunset Plaza. She chose and purchased the spot in the late 1990s, right after I was born. It was such a trip seeing a place that I've grown to be very familiar with over these last six years but from a whole new perspective. Until know, I only knew that John Wayne was buried here. We had been told, in fact on the day of my grandpa's funeral, that his grave used to have an iron pair of cowboy boots attached to the plaque but that they had been stolen and replaced more than once. I had no idea that so, so many folks within media and showbusiness were neighbors of my grandma! Not someone in show business but certainly someone noteworthy also resting in the Sunset Plaza is a Tuskegee Airman. I can't remember his name but before he passed this past year, we had seen him several times visiting his wife. The cemetary overlooks and empty, trapped reservoir which had been in use until right after the US anthrax mail scares in the early 2000s. It's remained empty ever since. Pacific View is a wonderful place and the chimes are hauntingly beautiful cutting through the usual quiet, minus the sounds of planes flying out of John Wayne.

Marilyn was an intelligent and sweet lady. in interviews, Jeanne comes off as an arrogant opportunist. They may have been at the same parties but friends? I have my doubts.

I'm impressed but not surprised that John Wayne is buried in a run-of-the-mill grave, and not in a big, fancy mausoleum. He became an American icon and larger than life by never acting like he was either. He lived and died like one of us. He was salt-of-the-earth; a man who lived hard, worked hard, and loved every minute of it. He loved and cherished his family and friends, and his love of country was just as strong. John Wayne didn't just love America; he was America. Rest well.

Neither you nor I had to pay for it so it should be none of our concern. Let’s be respectful. I'm not great on acreage, but I think about 200. They have but one small parcel of land left to develop and space for one more small outside mausoleum...until they start filling in roads. Still another 100 years of interments there. Their website has a great tale on the finding of the park In 1960, the University of California Irvine purchased a 1,000-acre plot of land from the Irvine Company for the sum of $1. The site was not the first choice of the regents. Rather, they had their eyes on a plot of land on the slopes of Spyglass Hill, where Pacific View is now located. John Vibert already had a lease on this beautiful parcel, intending to build a cemetery. He wanted nothing more than this captivating, peaceful view overlooking the ocean. When he heard the university wanted that same plot of land, he sprang into action, quickly arranging for 6 burials on his plot in April of 1959 at no cost to the families. He even exhumed and moved a gentleman’s wife so they could rest together in this beautiful new cemetery. This fast decision secured his lease and set the course for Pacific View Memorial

I find these videos fascinating! I would have thought John Wayne had a more ornate burial plot; like Michael Landon. I just love the history tidbits on the people we never saw on screen but had as much to do with a films success as the actors....fascinating thank you for posting these.

My god how this makes me aware of my own mortality I can't believe so many of these people I grew up with are dead. People my age are blessed to have lived through the times we did. Entertainers and actors like these will never be duplicated we will never see their likes again amen.

My dad has dementia and it makes him so happy to watch John Wayne movies. If he’s having a bad day I just turn on either Netflix or Amazon prime and he can watch his movies for hours

In the 40s...my Aunt literally ran into John Wayne. She was coming out of a department store in Los Angeles with packages, Mr. Wayne ran into her as he was going in. Packages everywhere, apologies...my aunt looks up and sees who it is and can't say a word. Mr. Wayne was a complete gentleman, my aunt said. Yes, a moment right out of a Hollywood script.

My favorit is John Wayne. He was an icon and will allways be an icon. I belive that I have seen the most of his movies. Todays western movies are not like the once with John Wayne, Charles Bronson, Yul Brynner, James Coburn, Lee Van Cleef and many more. I would very much like to see more of yours videos with our western heroes

Søs The Sergio Leone films with and without Eastwood are bona fide masterpieces. "The Good, The Bad and the Ugly" and "Once Upon a Time in the West" are my favorites. You're absolutely right in saying they don't make em' like they used to. Movies will NEVER be made that rival these gems of yesteryear.

I grew up in Corona del Mar California and it's a special place in my heart some of my friends are. Are buried there I think it's one of the better places I've seen so far look deeper you will find brilliant people buried there. One of the most enjoyable evenings my wife and I spent with friends was when we went to Medley's a nightclub in Fountain Valley, Ca. Owned by Bill Medley. After dinner the show started with Bill signing with his house band, when Bobby Hatfield walked in. For the next two hours they entertained the audience with a great show.
