Amazing to see so many rare Famous Monsters and related items in a collection! I remember reading how friendly and personable Forrest Ackerman was and how impressive his horror collection was. I had the opportunity to purchase a few early issues a while ago, but I didn't pull the trigger as they all had taped spines. They were all gone the next time I went into the store...one of the many things I regret not buying over the years.
Very nice collection of Famous Monsters of Filmland you have there. I have about 40 of the 1960s to early 1970s versions in my PC. My favorite is the memorial to Boris Karloff issue after he passed away. I collect anything Frankenstein related, so it was natural for me to get that issue.
I loved the original Warren FM magazine until around 1977 when they went "all out Star Wars". I liked SW, but not as the main feature on the covers of Famous Monsters of Filmland. Wanted FM to stick with horror films. They could have featured the contemporary horror films of that time. Star Wars belonged on other magazines like "Starlog" or "Fantastic Films". I recall a FM issue that featured R2-D2 on the cover. That was a "jump the shark" moment for FM to me.
I dearly love Famous Monsters of Filmland. The first issue I bought was #95. It took me years but I finally collected all of them, the original series and the revival. Such great punny fun! And some of the best covers ever! And I was published in the letters column 8 times!!
Hello Allan, many thanks for showing the FMOF covers and other Forry items its very sad how he was treated and taken advantage of during his last years. I agree with you on the Bride cover being the best. Basil Gogos original art for it was sold by Heritage in November 2021. Is the bulk of your comic/magazine collection horror related ?. Here's hoping for more monster related content.
Thanks for answering my question, great to learn more! Would love to get some of the negro romance comics you mentioned, especially #4 as I'm not a huge fan of photo covers. Have a good one!
Thank you Allan. Nice XMen1. For a non-comic question - as you are a Warren/classic Monster fan - do you think you’ll visit the new Universal Studios Dark World in Orlando and/or what are your thoughts (may be too early to ask!) on such a place? And that Tip-Top never gets old. Great book. Thanks again
I've always found that Creppy numbers 9, 32, 41, and Eerie numbers 17, 23, and 41 the most difficult to find as regular issues. My guess is lower print runs...nice stuff! Also, the Vampi Annual with the Aslan cover is kinda tough, too! 😁
I'm also really surprised how abundant high-grade copies of Warren's The Spirit there are! It's so easy to find all 16 in NM or better very easily...I wonder why.
What’s up Allen, I was wondering if you can have a Q&A live stream with Stephen(Steppo). I really enjoy the amusing Back and forth. You guys have great chemistry ( in a very heterosexual way).Q&A meaning viewers asking questions.
Decision? He was never in doubt himself. It was always Veronica for him (and Allan apparently.) I'm disappointed Allan, Betty's like the sweetest girl in the world. tsk, tsk.
Lies! Propaganda! Falsehoods! Superman didn’t really die, and Archie is always a teenager who is forever involved in a love triangle. In the late 90’s I convinced my friend that in Pep #22 was the first and last time that Archie’s huge genitals were mentioned.
I do want to beat a dead horse here. Would you be willing to show your collection of negative space covers and explain why they are that. I don’t understand the concept of negative space although I do find them appealing.
Allan seeing as how much comics you have and knowing how much you love the hobby would you ever consider selling or trading all your books to get a massive golden age grail like Batman 1 Or Superman 1 to etc.. Everyone collects how they do it’s just having so much books means you need more space.. Take care
First of all, Betty yes, Veronica no. Next question: I know a lot of your favorite Golden Age artists, but what are some of your present day favorites?
Hi Allen i’m trying to collect Looney Tunes first appearances in comics. Research is taking me into multiple different directions. Thanks for your help…
