Wow.. I finally filmed this after seeing this on RU-vid for basically my whole life. I guarantee this was one of the very first elevators I saw on RU-vid and one of the first that got me into this passion. It is very basic but fun to ride. The interlock latch is SO LOUD, IT SHAKES THE WHOLE CAB.
According to Dan Allen, the reason why this elevator gets stuck so much is because it uses these crappy magnetic switches that stick very often, and because it sticks, the elevator cannot detect where it is. Therefore, it passes the floor and once it realizes it’s in the wrong spot, it’s too late. Stuck.
This was originally an Otis from 1981, and installed as the A&S freight. It had GAL JetPlus and Courion doors. When A&S moved out, the mall converted the A&S into what is now known as the pavilion. With the transition, this elevator got modernized by Amtech in 2001. (The gate and the door equipment was also replaced by Peelle) The mod was done like shit. It destroyed a practically indestructible elevator with a “Get Stuck in a Elevator Simulator”.
If anyone is wondering, the alarm has been removed for a pretty long time, I’m sure a lot of employees mistaked it for a fire alarm. The voice eventually stopped working, and the strobe at some point will probably stop working as well. All it does now is make a really annoying ticking noise when it closes so I guess it still is somewhat annoying.
My thoughts on this elevator in the first 2023 ride out there, is it runs pretty well for the age and the obvious abuse it gets. It looks like they recently replaced some of the LED’s, so it adds a nice touch. All they need to do is replace the stupid cheap magnetic switches with either normal switches or QUALITY magnetic switches. Then it won’t get stuck nearly as often. Still runs well for a 42 year old elevator.
