We review part of the Ashland South region of Famous Reading Outdoors in Ashland, PA by riding our rzr 900 trail - many open wooded trails and expansive riding for all levels and ages. Some ground and drone shots of trails, surrounding areas and we discuss what kind of rider would enjoy this FRO zone. Why do they call it Famous? Because Reading Outdoors really has the widest variety of trails and lands to ride on for your side by side, atv, full-size or motocross.
GPS address for this parking lot: 500 S Hoffman Blvd Ashland, PA 17921 behind the RED WHITE AND BLUE CAR DEALERSHIP - up dirt road next to the building, up the hill.

What is your favorite Famous Reading Outdoor location to ride? What do you ride when you go there? Let us know, we'd like to hear!

Did you ride from Ashland into locust dale then to lavelle then into locust gap them trails run right behind my house

Hard to say but Ashland South is probably one of my favorites, along with Ashland North & Locust Gap. Darkwater is so nice because of being able to cover a lot of ground from there. I ride a YZ250X, so I really enjoy single track. I've noticed though some single is now double.

Nice, I'd like to explore the rest of Ashland, and get over to Locust Gap next, I'm a bit over-darkwatered for the moment. Wish they'd make better trails paralleled to the haul road. Cool, I used to ride a little yz80 when I was little.

:55 I wish man I don’t mind paying 225 now but…. I really really hope that survey they gave us. Camping in the event area at dark water come true for members, friend passes , a way to connect darkwater to Burma and many other things would be great for the 225 a year we pay now. I love ur content and seen you at muddfest last year a bunch of times If you have any pull with FRO. You should Totally help make that stuff on the survey come true 😊😊 happy riden man. And cya at muddfest in 2 months unless I see your side by sides befor then up there 😅😂

I don't have any influence on them. I think its just a reduction of land, its no longer 20L acres, and its def less than 650 miles of trails now, depending how you look at it. Trevorton, the Flats and a lot of Ashland North, South are no longer ridable, and St Kierns is a small strip of riding trails since they're active mining all over. I realize theyre a mining company first, riding area second, but the price should be reduced for the fact that its 25% smaller than it was last year. Camping will only be with special events, sadly...they dont make nice with the town so they're held for ransom when it comes to putting in any kind of camping, infrastructure, etc... Hills like mile hill, the incline, the 500 are either gone now to reclamation or will be soon...just the fill is worth the money to sell. Better off buying daily passes to AOAA, smaller, but better organized and they're not taking land away from riders.

@@TheBeatenTrail yea I been a member there since 2020 it’s changed some But I’m on a bike and it’s still very big for me on. A dirtbike and still love it. I’m sure as they stop working in certain areas they will Open them back up. Hopefully someday

@@TheBeatenTrail I also don’t see an issue letting us members primitive camp on just weekends in the event area at darkwater They talked about cabins in the servey. That would be cool But we just wanna be able to relax and sleep in a tent after a long day of riden Not asking much. Stuff like that would make my 225 worth it if I’m losing some riden land Idk. Lol
@TheBeatenTrail

I hear ya. I think they dont have the facilities or permits to allow for camping overnights. Trash, etc, dumping, and even if you say carry-in, Carry-out, Ive seen people abuse it. Maybe the town won't let them unless they have special arrangement/events and insurance to do so. Who knows with FRO. :/

Yes, I hope so too, I know Mile Hill ashland south is gone or being dug up, we'll see what the future brings. DW does have some new bike-only hills, they're pretty impressive, all rocks, but impressive.

There is a lot to see around Ashland if you know the trails, look up Pennsyl Tuckey tours on Facebook he does tours and very knowledgeable of the area.

Glad you did this video, helps my decision to try it out. Seems it does have some open area to go at a decent pace, not into the big gnarly rock type terrain.
@TheBeatenTrail

Yes you can do some higher speed wo all the rocks and it is isolated a bit so not much traffic. Glad you enjoyed!

@@TheBeatenTrail had a chance to ride Ashland South this past weekend, and it was okay. Somewhat small, several dead ends, but some areas where you could get a good jam going. Going to try Ashland North soon, that is the property that gets you access to My Carmel, correct? Looks like Ashland North has a separate parking area as well, correct? I will check out you your Ashland 2 video to get a sense of the terrain.
@TheBeatenTrail
@TheBeatenTrail 2 года назад
Yes, Ash North will allow you to ride over to Mt Carmel, crossing one road, see our short video "Ashland north to Mt Carmel" for a show. A little bit technical in parts of hills, but moderate for atv, sxs. 117 Cantawissa ashland, pa is the parking area, a bit tight for BIG 20ft+ trailers, serpentine entry way, but enough room for 20-25 trailers to fit. We'll be putting out some more videos, people have been asking for longer trail videos, so we're working on that too.

Hey thanks for sharing I always go to AOAA i love Aoaa but im getting tired of the same place and i feel its time to know more places and now I want to try this place, i am riding yamaha Raptor 700 Which trail you recommended ? I dont really like rocky trails and high hills i am more into wild open and high speed fun area, would like to hear back from you thanks. 🙏👍
@TheBeatenTrail
@TheBeatenTrail 3 года назад
I understand! Sometimes you just have to Ride very fast! Well, if I had to pick high speed less rocky, it would be Ashland South. Not all trails, but some good long high speed trails in through woods. My second choice once you experience Ashland would be Locust Gap. And LG is so versatile, that you can go from LG to Mount Carmel, many hills and long runs, rockier, and then you can also drive to Ashland North. For now, Ashland South is isolated from Ashland North without driving on roads, through town, over mountain, etc etc. Again, give Ashland South a shot - long drive in to the parking area, but good long trails! Thanks for watching!

Where do you park for ashland south?
@TheBeatenTrail
@TheBeatenTrail 2 года назад
Ashland south entrance is a shared driveway with the Red, White and Blue car store, address: 500 S Hoffman Blvd Ashland, PA 17921, right before the building, but after the first set of parked cars. Right Hand side if you're coming in from Rt 81.

Question, im hoping you can help me. I'm a few hours away from Famous and don't want to make the drive if it ain't worth my time. I ride a beefed up Trailmaster Mb200-2 mini bike that has more balls than your average. But as a whole is famous a place we're I can bring my mini bike and have fun for the day? I'd love to go there and figure they have to have trails that mini bikes can handle but that's why I'm asking. Awesome videos, thank you.
@TheBeatenTrail
@TheBeatenTrail 3 года назад
I hope I can give you a good answer. Most of the FRO lands have plenty of normal trails, some have the huge inclines with shale and loose rock. Your minibike reminds me of my Honda Ct70 from when I was younger, and I think I would enjoy it at FRO, just not at every location. I could see trying it out at Darkwater for a day pass ($45 saturday, applicable towards a full yearly pass if you decide to) and see how you enjoy it on the trails. There are flat trails, hills, wide open areas, muddy swampy areas and a lot of loose shale and anthricite. I think you'd have fun, as long as you know where you might not want to push the limits. Let me know what you decide - could always show you around sometime. Ashland South, Burma (parking lot side) or Locust Gap I would say you could do all but the steep hills, and plenty of flats and puddles along the way to enjoy!

@@TheBeatenTrail Thank you for a quick and detailed response. A meet up would be awesome but I understand schedules collide. I'm just going full go and gonna grab a year pass. I can make it up there a good 5 times a year atleast. I only ride with 1 other guy so more company and a guided tour is always a great thing. Thanks for everything, you got a new sub👍

Was Ashland wide enough for full size ?
@TheBeatenTrail
@TheBeatenTrail 3 года назад
I would say that it can be tight for full size in some areas, but it is listed as Full size riding by FRO. North may be a little bit tighter than South, but I think you'll be ok on both areas just generally on some of the trails. North access to Mt Carmel may be tight around gates exiting North.
