If it wasn't for FAMU a lot of these other bands would not exist. FAMU is the father of marching bands. Historical FACT!!! All HBCU'S and PWI'S have take from FAM.
@@AnthonyEDavis-tm5ci Tuskegee was the first HBCU to establish a marching band, Alabama A & M was the second but FAMU is noted as the first HBCU band to create the show style. Tuskegee and Alabama A &M were military style bands upon their inception. FAMU introduced the traditional HBCU show style we see today.
AMAZING!!! That "Slow One" looks painful as hell!! I love all the HBCU marching bands and the rich tradition they represent but this band is definitely in a class all by itself. What gets me is not only are the steps tight, but the tonality is exceptional. Just saw them play NC A&T this past Halloween and I was blown away. This is a black tradition that we must always embrace and celebrate. Thanks for the post!
+Delvin Scott Yeah, I can believe that by the way they attack that field right after that grueling Slow One. It looks awesome from a distance. Without a doubt the best field entrance out there.
+Delvin Scott That's a very special honor to be able to say you were part of that exceptional marching tradition. I live in Georgia and hope to be able to catch more of FAMU's games next season, particularly the Florida Classic against BCU. I hope The 100 participates in the next Honda Battle of the bands. They were truly missed.
The articles you say were from 2000, are from 2009 ..you need to.do more fundamental reading. It dont matter if it happen in your day or 20 years later. Some way or another you and your fellow band members help create the environment were hazing existed. To sit here and lie to us saying it never happened is bull. You said in another comment you had been hazed before...
If only the Football team could keep up with the status of the Marching 100... Remember watching and wondering why ..and no i wasn't in the band but use 2 watch them practice...crazy
DEATH MARCH! WOW THAT TITLE SPEAKS VOLUMES. BUT GLAD FAMU BAND BACK IN ACTION. THEY HAVE A LOT OF TALENT AND A FEW SHOULDN'T SPOIL IT FOR OTHER TALENTED MUSICIANS WHO OBEY BY THE RULES. CHECK OUT BAND BLAST DOCUMENTARY STARRING NC A&T STATE BAND ON MY PAGE, INTRODUCING NCCU AND WSSU BANDS.
The Death March doesn't refer to what you think. FAMU marches must do perfect high knees. Its called The Slow One. AKA the Death March because interval between the steps decreases significantly and you have to keep a perfect stance on one leg, without falling, and carrying you instrument... which can be especially difficult for the Marchers with heavier instruments whose weight hangs on one side of their body.
What's with the negative comments about??? Paris seems to like famu. And washington does too especially for inaugurations. Ooops did I forget superbowls also.......gtfoh miss famu with the bs
Those kids do not get the credit they deserve. I'll take it a step further and say no college band gets the credit they deserve. The hours upon hours these kids put in is something that is to be admired and respected. For anybody to make negative comments is just plain rude, ugly, and distasteful. I'm originally from NW Florida and I spent a lot of time in Tallahassee. My dream was to play baseball at FAMU but I ended up going elsewhere. These kids would be practicing in rain, the cold, the heat, you name it. I'm talking Florida heat in the mid to high 90s and then we add in the humidity. I played sports my entire life but there is nothing more brutalizing than standing in the heat. At least in sports we are running to get a breeze. They get nothing. It's hard enough to do that Death March without an instrument. It is really sad that people cannot actually just enjoy they efforts and dedication it took for each of these kids to even be a part of this band. I'm not a band guy. I don't have any experience on any musical instrument. These kids need to know how special they are and how big their accomplishment truly is. That is any band at that level. Sure some are better than others but people just take things like this for granted. We are talking 100 or so kids, that's it. The odds of even making these teams are almost impossible. Unlike a lot of people, I love marching bands of all kinds. It doesn't matter the school nor if the band is predominantly white or black, respect and love one another for the accomplishment they have made. These bands, all of them are a special gift and I wished people would see this instead of being negative. I have been in Stadiums all over and seen many bands but not to be biased, The Marching 100 is something special to behold. But so is Texas A&M, Southern University, Florida State, the list goes on. Only an idiot judges a band by some bs political construct. Enjoy it why we have because we will certainly lose this if people do not wake up to the rruth.
the 100 use to be kickin up dust and grass flying when they use to bring it on...def can tell the quality of the musician has changed...put um in the cut..lol
It's funny how I see all these negative comments on a FAMU video, Shiddddd if u don't like it stay off the page....This only goes to show....That these other bands do steal our shit....I mean it aint no secret....The Rattler, Dancing, Playing R&B and Rap music...that shit was started by #THA LAW.....shid if i'm lying prove me wrong with video or documentation....I know i aint tho so dont waste ur time looking for it....We set the standard for other bands to follow......CHECK and MATE!!!!!!
dbaile2 you are right, somehow I almost join FAMU band back in 1968 however I did make it in Southern University Band because I liked southern band better. I can say the both bands were different in the way they marched as a unit.
Can't be murder wen u willing decide to participate in something just to say u did it and made it to bus c. Sorry he lost his life but he was already a an upper classman DM idk what he felt he had to prove he was already that top. Egis are our biggest down fall
@ariesfire041 and you know how we feel about Opinions....I don't care what you think if you didn't march in the 100...It goes deeper but you didn't cross....so you don't know.....Keep your opinion....It is yours....I won't deny you that...and have a happy day....Come back and talk to me once you have crossed the 100.....IJS.
@famupiccolo92 Oh ok. I'm a FAMU fan of the 90's (not so much of the 00's) and I never knew the band had a DM for every president. I, however, think its a lil too much and unnecessary. That is just my opinion.
Of course, you can't please everybody...but I like the white shoes! With that said, that's the worse I've ever seen FAMU's drum majors. But hey, even the best have bad days.
im sorry bruh but the current 100 aint shit compared to the one from 1980's through 2002...you know it, i know it..and the lord knows it...i bet them old heads are very pissed about what the noobs have done to their band program...
and attitudes like that are exactly why you guys got exposed and shut down. I love the band but I've never been down with the egos and drama that goes with it.
famu for god sake stop running you might as well run the 50 yard dash let me a cadance and a solo malik will punish yout snare drum line i mean ooooh i play left right and match grip for 50 some years peace
