Miami Hurricanes Host FAMU and the Marching 100 Band! 2009 

I am a Hurricane fan but this was a great show! Very classy with the FAMU and CANES at the end! Orange and Green forever. Much respect for FAMU.

This is Epic! Bands normally don't even sound good live most of the time, but this was really good. Their notes were clearer than the announcer with a microphone.. Proud of the FAMU's performance.

This is one of the reasons why I want to go to FAMU ( The Band and A Good Education).....I had so much fun at this game although they lost, It felt Like FAMU still won da game because of the BAND keep it up!!!

Famu is always classy. And usually where ever they go they usually incorporate the name of the place in there routines. And there are alot of FAMUans in South Florida that come to see the 100. Great video!

No actually they played in all directions and covered everyone. Usually when one side was turned one way the other side (like Tuba section was turned towards the home side. They covered it all very well. For me the part where they spell out FAMU and CANES brings goosebumps and shows that they do have a lot of class and respect for the home side. No one should criticize them in all honesty - but thx for the comment anyhow.

Fantastic luck you had....we had always been upper deck folks and I enjoy the perspective up higher actually but we discontinued our 20 year in a row season tickets last season and glad we did because that team and University are so far out of relevance that it is terrible to watch live......thanks for writing!

Thanks so much I will look them up, as a UM guy all we ever get exposed to is the Band of the Hour which is not really into this sort of stuff so when a band comes along with some moves it is really something to see, much better than sneaking off for a halftime piss :) - will look them up and enjoy them I am sure just as I did the 100 here.

@MrKomKast It has a 50X Optical and 200X digital zoom and thanks for the nice words on the camera it is amazing - get a lot of enjoyment out of it.

If you're pressed for time, you should make sure the performance is as exciting and entertaining as possible. Dancing is exactly what you should do in that situation. Those UM fans didnt come to see us drill. They came to be entertained. The band only gets 7 mins when they play the White Schools. Drilling doesn't keep the butts in the seats during half time... Trust me, concessions took a hit that day. I was there and nobody left their seats...

When I was in high school in the late 90s, this was the band I feared the most. Plus, I thought this band was in the U , lol.

@famupiccolo92 Great and thanks for commenting, As a Miami guy I was just happy with the entertainment and actually seeing something worth watching at halftime. If we want to compare the worst performance to the Band of the Hour's best.....FAMU would still come out on top :)

@notenoughcereal I will definitely check out FSU and UF. But I think maybe FAMU and BCC alternate between which band is the best in Florida. I've recently seen a performance from the Bethune Cookman marching band in Va and I think that they are the best in Florida this year. If you get a chance, check them out. They are so freaking clean!!!

Famu has one of the best sounding bands around but I can't watch them perform. It's like watching paint dry. However to each his own if you like it I'm happy for you. My neice is gonna kill me she went to famu lol.

@THEREEKSTER ....sorry but that is wrong information....When Dr. William P Foster started the band ("100") in 1946, the had 98 band members 1 drummajor and 1 majorette..and that= THE INCOMPARABLE MARCHING "100"....and in 2008 the weren't 500+, the were more like a good 425-440.....fall 2k9 HUBBA "100"

Did Miami band give a show or just classical division 1 type music ?

@wholderby This season will be an interesting one for the Hurricanes as they have a new head coach and they have a pretty interesting schedule this year. The Ohio State game is a huge barometer, but I did not like how they finished the season against Notre Lame (yeah that's right)...With a road opener against Maryland on Labor Day and an off week before OSU, they have some time to see what their strengths are... I will see them when they play USF in December. Hopefully that will be good.

@kdk1970 Sony HDR-SR11 - I love it....I filmed last night as well and will be uploading it shortly - the only issue last night was the people walking up and down the aisle - last night did not seem as good as last years performance...they didn't "funk out" as much or something...and it seemed like they played towards the away side most of the time....I will watch my own video again to verify this....was hard to hear them this year (not so last year when I filmed this)....

It is a Sony HD Camera with the 30gb HDD....I forget the model....great cam though....

Why is the band called the Marching 100 and there are 300-400 band members on the field?

you just have to give them there due theywere good i always went to homecoming going this year miss last year no homecoming.

YOU CANNOT HEAR THE WOODWINDS OR PICCALO'SOVER THE BRASS INSTRUMENTS IN NO OTHER BAND. THIS BAND IS FOREVER IMITATED AND NEVERDUPLICATED. IF YOU KNOW MUSIC, YOU LISTEN FOR QUALITY AND LOOK FOR PRECISION.FAMU STARTED IT ALL. FAMU IS THE LAST WORD.. THE BEST BAND IN THE WORLD...HENCE THE TITLE"THE UNITED STATES BAND". Sorry dolphanG but your mistaken... Miami paid Famu's football team to come down and scrimmage after a hard schedule complete with Fl State, Va Tech, Ga Tech and OU. Consider The Marching "100" a bonus for you. Plus... There is a large Famu alumni chapter in Miami that would be pretty upset if the band didnt play to them. Just be lucky you didnt have to watch a punt, pass, & kick competition at half time. Gr8 Show

@bmoreed I believe so. But they blow. Pecking order in Florida: (1) FAMU (2) FSU (3) UF (4) UM .... there actually may be some schools better than UF and UM, but it's really about the 100 for flair and the Marching Chiefs for traditional pageantry and good music.

@bmoreed Yeah, they are not up to the same par as a REAL band but I would rather have 95% of the talent on the field be the players and 5% be the band rather then a different combination :) - would be great to have the Marching 100 and a good (refreshed) Miami Hurricanes....we shall see....the Band of the Hour learns 1 or 2 new songs a year and milks them far too long.....in my opinion of course.....the mics on the field did help them out a lot though.
