@dariusm-xs2go I didnt know MoneyBagYo Motion God came out 20yrs ago or any of the other songs they played. Asu on the other hand played songs that WERE 20yrs old.... Just say you didnt watch the video without saying you didnt watch it
Ummm it was a joke but it doesn’t change that fact most of the band world says the same thing..Famu sounds good but need an updated book..I love Famu btw
Bama for the win clean, smooth, crisp and we can tell what is being played ..good job u all did great and love the song selections. Famu is famu good job always but it was a bit too clashy I prefer the smooth sound
Naw, ASU has some tune-up to work on with certain phrasing and technique, they do get down and are very entertaining. FAMU has the better overall sound and musicianship.
I bet it gets really exhausting for the 💯 being head and shoulders above their peers and having to listen/read these rudimentary comments from SWAC band fans week in and out. Y’all just keep doing you… “the incomparable.”
I KR let’s just give our SWAC brethren their flowers: they’re really good at standing still and playing loudly. When comes to drilling, intonation, difficulty level, & etc we’ll save that for later 🙂.
@8:44 very nice sound. 100 is getting better and better each year. Hubba y'all! Really great selections from State that showed off their skills. Good job. Really enjoyed these performances.
NOT A THING. This culture is still rich after so many years of amazing battles. Y’all have no idea how much they wish to take this away from us, tax it, and give it back - but they can’t. It _truly_ belongs to us! ✊🏾🍿
I'm siding with Bama State on this one. Their song selection gives them a clear advantage.... Not to mention, they sound ten times better than in recent years. Kudos Hornets & Snap!!!! Snap!!!!
This is the FAMU that I know. Music is wonderfully played. Because you switched conferences don’t mean you have to overplay like the rest. Other bands be drowning out other sections within the band.
That last piece was a good display of that big wash of sound that FAMU is known for. Special shoutout to the horns and euphoniums. They kept it mellow and round, and it sat right on the pyramid! Very nice.
Overall W goes to Bama st. But Famu sounds DAMN good, I can't lie. This is more of an apples vs oranges battler and i prefer Bama st...but got damn that joint FAM played at 9min one of the smoothest ballads I've ever heard. Off of that one I'm actually leaning more FAM.
Hubba Hundred all day🤝🏾 Asu did a good job as well, but I disagree with some of the comments saying their song selection was better. In my opinion, they should fit more towards current times. The selection they had fits great for the 90s, but we played more songs relevant to what’s going on in todays music.
Relevant to today's music culture can get you run right out of the stadium. I think Famu's book is deeper than what they showed I'm this 5th. Speaking as a bandhead with over 20 years in the game, I just wish we'd all get away from playing songs that are of the current years repertoire in order to stick to what made us fall in love with bands like FAMU in the first place, that is being able to surprise us with the wow factor pertaining to the song selection. You have to be ready for anything. What if the lights went out and neither band had a song to wow the audience with? Lastly, for both bands I wish our fiscal quarters would consist of more up-tempo power tools as well... Just throwing that out there.
Everybody knows famu and Bcu got the weakest books in the band world. They need updating bad. But everyone also knows Bama st. Has always had a better book than famu.
@@TheTeamIsSHaRP they went there in 2021 .. they are only 3 hours apart you should go visit ASU stadium next year when famu go up there again .. is famu the band you cheer for right?
This is a preference battle. ASU had a batter book and arrangement (slightly) but famu had better musicality however both had tempo and control issues at times. I’d lean tie or lean slight asu here.
Both bands did good. I been loving what I been hearing from ASU did year but the winner depends on what you’re looking for. FAMU arrangements and precision gave them the edge to me
Famu is not a SWAC band (Thank Gawd). They're in a league of their own when it comes to college bands, period! Honking out notes sounding like a semi-truck's horn for loudness sake is something they'd never teach their musicians to do. It's Famu Vs SWAC and the difference is very clear!
Attended and graduated from FAMU! I say this with all the love and support but these songs in the 5th are basically the same ones from the OBC. The 100 sounds clean!! They just need to implement more variety! The 100 has the numbers and sound quality, they just need to not sound so boring. NO MARCHES IN THE 5TH!!! ASU sounded great! The Shai and Badu were dope selections!!
Honestly it’s not about the marches. The way the band performs in the 5th is a bit predictable and stale. The sound will always be there because the attention to detail. As a paying alumni we want more from the 100! I for one refuse to believe that other SWAC bands are better than the 100. I think that the 100 is a sleeping giant, if they are ever allowed to really get loose….WOW! ”. The bands from late 80s, the 90s and early 2000s were amazing!
I understand that I just think they could mix it up way more. I know that every 5th they will play Annihilate. Hopefully with the weeks off from Southern, Texas Southern and PVAM that the 100 adds in more variety. They may not see another 5th until the Classic.
I really wanted to like Maybach Music. Was executed pretty good. Tubas held it down. Trumpets haven’t arrived yet. Needed more power. ASU headed in the right direction. Famu was better overall.
The bands spend all game entertaining the crowd...playing the latest music to get people out of their seats. And that's all good. But the 5th quarter should be about more. Yes, it should be about MARCHES, jazz pieces, ballads, some Earth Wind and Fire, Chicago, other music that has some difficult technique, brass licks, etc. Also, displaying the musical intelligence of your arrangers, and the artistry of the band directors as to how they balance the band, phrase musical sentences, etc. And you can do this, and not be "boring" as some say. I don't get that "boring" thing, but I digress. Show us what you got! Playing high and loud can be fun, but can you play loud and high in tune? With good tone and musical taste? Now that's where the level of difficulty starts to rise. Again, show me what you got! If all you have is loud and high, with no musicality, then you simply can't play...regardless of how many people are saying "ooooooh" smh Usually, the ones that don't wanna hear marches are the ones that can't play. 😂 I wanna hear if you got the technique...the fingers, the tonguing...to play at a high level. Keep doing you FAMU. That SZA was fire earlier! Signed: a retired band director and hornist that didn't attend FAMU or Alabama State. 😉
I don’t really care which school you attended back in the early 1900’s. You are clearly biased. I love when y’all try to uplift one band to bring down the other. Both styles here and their sounds displayed great skill and a certain level of difficulty. How about you show us what _you_ got?
@@G-Rated He didn't say anything negative about any of the band. You're taking a compliment of one band as an insult to the other. You need some counseling because you are clearly butt hurt
@G-Rated You seemed bothered by my post. I don't care. You're right. I'm very biased...towards bands that can play, have good tonal concepts, and have something musical to contribute to the artform. That said, I don't care about your opinion of me. I sleep well every night 🤣. I've already shown the world what my bands have done, as evidenced by the 20 years of consecutive 1st division superior ratings at district and state levels. 🤣 If you don't believe me, again, I don't care. My former colleagues know exactly who I am. 🤣🤣 Now gone on somewhere.
Those cheerleaders weren't cheerleaders, they we're male dancers. They belong in the dance squad in the band... i say in about 5 years we'll see men on major hbcu dance squads.
@@sp1318 We already have male dancers in the mass/allstar bands, This is long overdue in the HBCU world. Equality for women, but not for men... I can't believe its almost 2024 and we're still having convos like this!
I don't wanna know has A LOT of potential!!! but PLEASE clean it up! It sounds MUDDY 70%of the time....Sounds like alot of y'all are skating and don't know the music well...On a positive note that song y'all encored was 🔥FIYAH!!!🔥 Great overall Job both bands! 💪🏾I rate it a tie!!!💪🏾
@MansaBC you FAMU folks love to try to discredit other school's sound. You're obviously biased and delusional if you say those guys sounded bad 🤷🏿♂️ both bands executed their respective styles well. One was just clearly far more entertaining than the other.
@@gaboi I didn't attend FAMU. Nice try though. Not my fault ASU have terrible arrangements and a lot of phrasing issues. Maybe you are entertained by the "funk" that actually sound more like a train wreck.
@@gaboii feel if were just talking sound and musicianship fam was better, but ASU had the better selections because the average fan doesn’t know half the marches famu play😂 but everyone knew asu’s Better Call Tyrone, i still think fam won but i can see why you think they won. At least we gotta say fam had the better halftime show😂😂😂
Nice! FAMU- nice orchestral sound. Technically top notch. Best sound for sure. Song selections need work. ASU: good song selections. Technique needs some improvement. Phrasing, release and intonation issues. But over good. Arrangements are fine. Nothing exciting. Judging on sound- FAMU wins. song selection- ASU
That's interesting... I actually like FAMU's song selection but not so much the execution. Nothing exciting about it. I also heard release and intonation issues from FAMU as well 🤔
No, ASU was great for FAMU as well. That’s why their fans were standing there mesmerized by the sounds and the Sensational Stingettes. Y’all are boring and most bandheads go to the restroom after y’all put your horns up. I advise y’all keep it cute on social media, it’s embarrassing and I’m _from_ Florida.
@@Kc20243 I mean yeah. There are all multiple plays to make in football and the quarterback can do whatever he wants. But Im sure he doesn’t choose to throw interceptions to let the opponent win out of pride
Please dont be doing that Tyrone sontolike that ...leave that to Aamu .....1998 1999 version will get Stank grass up .....kudos to Famu on musicality ....showmanship.....

ASU’s trumpets are far from piss poor tho, their section just has a much stronger low brass to cut through, something FAMU trumpets do not experience. Two different styles, sir. 😂
@@Tjevdevs jsu trombones are literally better in every way.. y’all have no originality. This is a watered down boom arrangement . Y’all section leaders look up to SOP , let’s not forget y’all ain’t won a bone battle against SOP in how long?
