Hank WAS a Blues singer at heart ♥ interviewed by Ralph Gleason toward the end of his life, he stopped the interview and told Ralph that the Blues was the real music...Old Hank sure meant it!
I remember either reading that or hearing it on a special about Hank. There's no doubt he was influenced by the blues. Had he have lived, I don't think country music would have went in the "pop" direction and you would have probably heard Hank doing more bluesy stuff. He seemed to be gravitating towards it at the end more and more.
