This video is one of several videos I have already pre-uploaded to RU-vid and scheduled to release over the next couple weeks. I’m still in the middle of packing up the game room and moving. I’m also taking this time to follow my doctors orders and work on my health. Thanks to everybody who sent me kind messages over the last few days! :)
MetalJesusRocks please take your life and health as priority MJR!! We love you and your videos, but we’d like to enjoy them for many years to come. I pray that life settles down for you in the near future, and you overcome your hardships. You’re the man MJR. Take care of yourself -Sincerely, Your fans
Also, Paranoia wasnt going to come out on the Dreamcast in 2000. You're probably referring to the Half Life port itself, not the fan mod which was released in 2007.
This^^^ a quick google search and clicking the first link details that Paranoia is a fan mod from 2007... "Mod for the PC created by the Paranoia team in 2007."
It's probably one of the later revisions Maybe the Macintosh version..... But there was DOOM music playing in the background which could have been the video if it wasn't them DOOM port but I don't know why you would bother doing that
The Nintendo 64 when playing Golden Eye is like that too. It doesn't have two analogs stick and you have to use the C-buttons, kinda clunky at first. But once you get the hang of it, it's really easy to move.
LuisTheImpaler it is actually better then two sticks and makes more sense. But that was ninties way of saying 4 - c buttons to simulate w s a d and a stick to use in center portrayed as a mouse. I think most see past things the way they were meant to be seen lol.
Haven’t burnt a cd in almost 10 years. Recently picked up a retired work pc with a fully working dvd writer and can’t think of anything I’d use it for.
@@TheCooterpuppet ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-kPERSp4AE5w.html check this out, i think that both versions are worth playing but the Saturn is a way more interesting game. Powerslave EX is a PC port of the Saturn game with HD and widescreen support made by the guys that did the Turok, System Shock and Blood remasters.
@@GenesHand Powerslave EX is based on the PSX version, which has scaled back level design and awful hitboxes. The Saturn version is still the best despite the framerate.
Let's say those were handhelds and the size/shape wouldn't fit a second analogue stick. Why on earth Sega released the Dreamcast without a second stick?
@@poopidoop8306 On some games only. Slave Zero for example was a pain to play with the buttons acting like a second analog stick. And so many games begged to have a second analogue stick to control the camera.
Had no idea these even existed, Rise of the Triad was always one of my favorite old school PC games, going to have to pick this up for my Dreamcast now. Also, definitely give us some more port videos.
I had the original Half Life ISO too and I remember there was a patch available that optimised the layout of the files in the ISO image to reduce the loading times. I never got around to trying it but I remember it being discussed in the newsgroups
3:04 Actually, the N64 had this type of layout for FPS before anyone. I remember playing GoldenEye with it, although it wasn't the default. In fact, I was so used to it, took me ages to adapt to look and aim on the right stick.
I just cannot imagine playing a fps on the dreamcast controller woth only one thumbstick. At least it is understandable for half life to be ported to the ps2.
I used to play Quake 3 Arena online on Dreamcast daily with that controller. Got to a point where I was good enough to nail people more often than not with the rockets. Definitely sucked not having a 2nd stick though...IDK who's idea it was at SEGA to not do dual analog, but it wasn't smart.
I really like the videos with the fan made ports for different consoles. Its kind of a glace of what could have been. Awesome video like always Metal Jesus!!!
Rise of the Triad is basically Shadow the Hedgehog in first person, so we effectively have Shadow's inspiration game on the same console he debuted on.
My son and I used to play a mod on Dreamcast that was Simpsons Quake. This was years back but I'm sure it's still out there. Edit. Oh and there's a Smurf Doom for DC we played too lol
Now that we have Rise of the Triad on Dreamcast, someone make ports of Aleph One Marathon Trilogy, Eternal X and the two Tempus Irae games on Dreamcast too. Same with Ion Maiden and Tomb Raider: the Angel of Darkness.
Knew you'd uploaded this via notifications for the channel but had to go manually searching as it wasn't appearing in my feed (checked several times). Best of wishes with the move!
I've used You Tube pretty much since day one but it's only since last year that I've started taking notice to people like yourself. Since subscribing I find myself checking for your latest post! Look after yourself and I hope the house move goes well. Keep up the good work 👍
The Dreamcast version of Tom Clany Rainbow Six 1998 was the best console port over the ps1 & N64. As it's output graphic & gameplay was on par with the original pc release.
8:40 the actual story is that id Software didn't want "Wolfenstein 3D - 2" to take the attention away from Doom, so asked the guys at Apogee to stop using the Wolfenstein 3D branding.
You mention the head bopping in Wolfenstein 3D. But I'm pretty sure the original didn't have that. This Dreamcast remake does, along with upwards opening doors (which are also silver, not light blue).
Funny that you mention the head bobbing during Wolf 3D at 5:35. I was instantly struck watching your footage because I very much remember Wolf 3D not having head bobbing. I used to get motion sick playing Wolf, but never did with Doom, and I assumed it was due to the slick gliding movement through the corridors. I'm going to guess what you were playing was Wolf 3D in the Doom engine? That would probably be a much better version for me to play.
That's a sweet-ass DreamCast you got there! Good luck with the move I sooooo don't envy you as I would rather take a shot in the grapes with a ball-ping hammer rather than deal with moving ever again, especially with the amount of awesomeness you have in your collection. Cant wait to see the new setup!
@@MetalJesusRocks Absolutely! I'm glad your getting some good use out of it playing these fan made DC games. Now I want some! Picture looks great via your DCHDMI modded console! Enjoy!
Slight clarification with regards to Half-Life: Sierra was going to publish it on Dreamcast and it even got so far as to have a small number of copies sent to reviewers before they canceled it. When Sega pulled the plug on the DC it went down quick. There’s something in the low double digits of pressed copies of the game, one of which is in the display case at Gearbox, who did the port. The Dreamcast version was to be the original home of the Blue Shift campaign, it was going to be an exclusive, and then it came to PC both to satisfy PC users and also because the DC port got canceled. There had been talk of having a second release later that would have Counter-Strike and modem play but it never got past the planning stages. Years later the DC port of HL1 leaked online. The Dreamcast had this format called MIL-CD and it was supposed to be like “Enhanced CD” but it quickly became this big piracy/homebrew loophole. This is how these discs you’ve got will work at all without needing a mod chip. The Paranoia release you’ve got here is basically someone taking the leaked HL1 DC port and putting the Paranoia mod/campaign in it. Paranoia didn’t get started until 2007, years after the DC was off the market. Sierra was not ever going to publish this, rather they were going to publish the original HL1 back around 2002. The Counter-Strike release I’m not sure about but the use of the Ritual logo implies it may be the leaked HL1 DC port coupled with “Counter-Strike: Condition Zero Deleted Scenes”. CS:CZ went through a few iterations and one version was done by Ritual but canceled and then the final version was done by a different developer but they included Ritual’s work as “Deleted Scenes” That’s also probably why there’s no multiplayer. Anyway I just felt like typing that, love the videos keep up the good work.
I just wish companies would make VMUs for their controllers, imagine new games with a second screen that also is a detachable handheld to play minigames to unlock in game content!
I'd probably have to put a blanket over it just to play without driving me nuts lol. Especially at night. Glare of purple lights in the corner of my eye. It does look neat as a gimmick though.
Great video! I'd definitely be interested in seeing more fan made ports to the Dreamcast. Adventure games, RPGS, JRPGS, etc. I'm really into the more unknown games. Homebrews, vaporware titles, imports, etc.
5:06 this is a Doom mod, not the original Wolfenstein 3D The original game never "emulated your head", it had no view bobbing at all - that's a Doom engine feature.
@@MetalJesusRocks actually I very, very highly recommend Fabien Sanglard's book about Wolfenstein 3D fabiensanglard.net/gebb/index.html it explores the computer hardware of the era and all the tricks needed to get Wolf3D running on the 286 VGA, as well as general game development stories and it covers some of the console ports of Wolf3D
HA! Rise of the Triad! Last time I played it properly I was serving in the navy and it was one of the two games on the computer I had access to. It was brand new too. The other was Panzer General. Of course only when we were at port, but still, it was such a nice break. (I was the one who installed them, but don't mention it to anyone!)
Just out of curiosity, to walk on FPS with the face buttons, it's an innovation that pre-dated dual analog sticks, brought not by the PSP games exactly, but GoldenEye and Perfect Dark (controller config 1.2). Never understood why people that played both games, overlooked this option, it makes both games extremely similar to mouse and keyboard setup (the yellow C buttons being the arrows or WSAD) and the analog stick the mouse). I simply love this scheme, it's better than dual analog sticks because you actually can strafe very easily, much more than the dual analog method.
Hi, MetalJesus! Longtime fan and fellow collector. I recently picked up a DC and have been collecting for it. I’d love to see a video about adventure game ports! Those are games I didn’t grow up with and have always wanted to go back to. Playing them on the DC sounds like an interesting way to do so! Assuming they play and control well, of course jaja
Glad you mentioned the keyboard and mouse. Many of the best First Person Shooters on the DC utilized that. Also SEGA again being way ahead of it's time with yet another feature on the Dreamcast. Half Life Blue Shift is available on the DC as well. It was another one of those "finished" but unreleased by Sierra.
7:28 this is behaviour you'd expect of decompressing textures into VRAM, so yes it sounds like it's when new areas load that have not-yet-loaded textures
Just in case your channel gets obliterated by the FTC COPPA thing I want to let you know that I love your channel and it's brought me so much happiness and entertainment. You're a cool guy.
First time I fully completed Doom 1 and 2 was on a Dreamcast. I made a Utopia boot disc with the DCDoom files and WADs and just played that since I had no access to a computer of my own. I was in 2nd year of middle school when I first beat Doom and Doom 2
mr wizard is awesome. i recently bought a am2r pc physical version he made and it is really cool comes with a keychain lil manual/map and cd soundtrack in a nice case.
Great video! I welcome ANYTHING Dreamcast! Back in the day I burned so many discs both failed (coasters) and lots of amazing homebrew. I went with the USB-GDROM with 500GB Samsung SSD (I know it was overkill on spec) so going forward won't have to go buy CDRs.
If you play an FPS on Dreamcast, the mouse and keyboard are a must. Even if the Dreamcast did have two thumbsticks, I'd still probably recommend using the mouse and keyboard.
I'd love to see a video on fan games and fan ports of ScummVM games on the Dreamcast. That sounds really cool. This video was very nice as well, seeing all these old school shooters running on the Dreamcast. Very interesting that you had to use the face buttons to move the camera.
It's not the Original Wolfenstein, this Port is Cleary running on the Doom Engine thats why there's Head bopping, because there's a phisical celing instead of the normal celing that IS Just there in the Original
First "3D" - Shooter -> Wolfenstein 3D First "3D" - Shooter with "High/Down" Levels (take a lift to go up/down) -> Rise of the Triad First real 3D - Shooter -> Quake 1
Saw your twitter post. Hope you're good bro. I suffer from barretts and have dealt with a lot of what you're going through. If you need someone to run questions by, feel free to hit me up 🙏🏻 I stumbled across your channel a few months ago and have watched SO many of your vids now. You're amazing. Stay strong, good luck with the moving and thanks for all the hard work you put in for us fans. 👊🏻
Almost done my North American Collection and now I'm really tempted to buy some of these ports. A lot of indie games on the Dreamcast are fairly decent, for example Gunlord.
Man, couldn't really pay attention to what you were saying MJ with that awesome rocking soundtrack in the background, if you could just point me as to what band or videogame soundtrack it is, that could be great :) I'm never dissapointed with your videos! (Sending you some rocking horns your way!!)
merchius import games from japan are among some of the best games i have played for any system, the dc is still a bad ass today!! I still play my dc online with dream pi.
