You actually DO phase out all equipment attached to a creature. This one I actually understand you all not knowing because it's not a rule that comes up often.

Yeah this is why reminder text on cards is actually important wotc. It's perfectly explains this all on Robe of stars if you have the reg version but not the extended.

This alternate way of phasing out is known as phasing out “indirectly.” An Aura, Equipment, or Fortification that phased out indirectly won’t phase in by itself, but instead phases in along with the permanent it’s attached to.

Jon can't get Steelshaper's gift. He's not reading Sunforger, that card can only get INSTANTS. Gift is a SORCERY, hence he wouldn't be able to kill Stephen's commander.

This is not a tournament scene and he isn't trying to play like it's tournament level serious. No matter if he makes a mistake, at least two others at the table have played since at least Ravnica and Corey is a pro himself so if no one chooses to read all cards, it's on all players not just Jon. Stephen leaves off parts of card wording all the time and no one calls him out for cheating cause he's silly and maybe lazy. But everyone accuses the more competitive and control player for mistakes. We don't know how much they have to do in a day before they sit down to play a 2 hour game and we don't know how much sleep they didn't get due to kids at home each night. Have some compassion. It's a game we get to watch as free entertainment. Jfc

Commander's Plate Sees the Backgrounds Color as a Commander Color Identity as it is considered a commander But if you’re playing with a “choose a background” commander creature and have a background card as a second commander, the background acts just like a partner commander would. It can have different colors than your commander creature, and your color identity is determined by the color pips on both your “choose a background” commander creature and your commander background.

51:53 When Corey went to declare attacks, he could have swung the archfiend at Stephen, but it just wouldn’t have dealt any damage to him. Protection doesn’t counter Corey’s ability to attack Stephen, only the goading was doing that.

i'd really encourage you to take a minute to look up rules if theres uncertainty at the table, its a good habit in commander if theres not a judge around edit: clever concealment says on the card "anything attached to them" in the reminder text - that includes equipment

Naughty Jon! Anyone playing a Sunforger deck should be fully aware of how it works... Seemed like that might have been intentional.. Sneaky.. But also do they not have someone watching to keep on top of rules? It's a good idea to have a list of the cards it can tutor on hand so you can consider your options and not have to wonder.

Yea, I noticed he played it incorrectly a few times. Over the seasons I’ve seen Jon make some wrong plays on purpose (because he got called out a few times).

The phasing questions would be Equipment does go with the phased out creature. Anything attached to it goes with upon resolution of the spell or effect.

if an equipped creature phases out all equipment and auras attached to it phase out attached to that creature as well.

It never came up but IIRC if Corey dies to the Archfiend's lack of counters his permanents get exiled BUT Archfiend returns to Jeremy's control - mainly because it entered the battlefield via Jeremy so it goes back to his control. Risky card to play because it can essencially end your own game.

Am I correct in that they played Goad incorrectly? From my understanding even if Baeloth is gone creatures are still goaded until Steven's next turn. 701.38a Certain spells and abilities can goad a creature. Until the next turn of the controller of that spell or ability, that creature is goaded.

So I like Corey but to see him play a Sen Triplets deck a week after crying on Twitter about hate he gets in comments makes me feel very little empathy. This is exactly the kind of deck people hate seeing/playing against. So he keeps doing it to himself in that regard. On the other hand I don’t think it warrants any kind of personal attacks because he does seem like a genuinely nice guy.

Even with the sunforger issue, doesn’t the last equipment Steven put on his creature give it indestructible? So the wild mage surge can’t destroy the equipped creature unless John managed to get rid of the hammer?

It's kinda funny that the single Sunforger mistake allowed all of the good things that Jon did since that one mistake got Shadowspear that allowed him to remove Steven's stuff.

Oof, missed triggers is one thing, but confidently declaring you know how phasing works when actually you don't 😬 even after someone brings up a card that proves you wrong 😅 does anyone stop to look up rules questions during filming? Probably lots more going on that we the audience don't see, but a simple search online should resolve things like that and can be cut out during editing, right?

Every season is breaking down to just Jon vs Steven. Suggestions for next season. - Regular Jeremy + Bearded Jeremy Seriously, Jeremy HAS to be tired of losing. It’s starting to show in his attitude. It’s not just that he’s losing either. It’s that he’s barely even playing most games before he’s either locked out or dead. - Corey + Pretty much anyone else I know its been said before in the comments, but it needs repeating, from a viewer’s perspective, it pretty much feels like the other three are playing Corey’s deck for him. And PLEASE STOP with the ‘well he’s new to Commander’ BS. Since Corey joined the Vs crew, we’ve taught several new players to play Commander, two of which had NEVER even played MTG before! And they have ALL picked up on the format better than him. And he’s a frickin’ tournament champion for craps sake! PLEASE, just get someone else to join so it actually feels like we’re watching a four player game.
