Using sheer fabric can be intimidating, but the effect is mesmerizing! See how I used fusible adhesives for applique on sheer fabrics that kept both the softness and transparency of the natural fabric. The end result was a stunning art quilt with beautiful movement and dimension. See below for a list of supplies mentioned throughout this video.
I tested three different types of fusible adhesives for this applique project and here are the results:
-Fusible adhesive
This type of fusible adhesive generally has a sticky side and another side with a peel-able paper backing. This left the sheer fabric stiff and in some places, it bubbled around the beadwork.
-Misty Fuse (light, not sticky, flexible)
This is a favorite around here. Misty Fuse is lightweight and flexible. It's not at all sticky and easy to work with. I had the most success using Misty Fuse for this project. It was discreet behind the sheer fabric and moved just as smoothly as if it weren't even there.
-Steam a Seam
I like Steam a Seam for some projects, but it just didn't work well here.
Some other supplies mentioned:
-Rotary Cutter
-Gem Tack
-Holographic Thread from Superior Threads
-Tsukineko all-purpose inks
-Swarovski Crystals
