fantastic as always! loved all her recs at the end! her love for Kafka and Houellebecq really does shed some light on the basic elements of this book! now itching to reread it!

This is my favorite reading the room podcast ep yet, such a smart and funny conversation and very “in the now” ya know, like listening to two friends chat 🤓 📚

Esther, I totally agree...Kafka is a favorite writer, and The Castle is the best. Have you read Krasznahorkai's "The Melancholy of Resistance"? These 2 are in my top ten of all time.

As a French viewer/listener/reader, it is very odd to see the reception of Michel Houellebecq's work outside of France ! I don't know how his viewpoints translate into anglophone worlds, especially all the interviews and texts of his promoting and catering to the ever-growing racist idea of the "grand remplacement" here in France.
