Now this is a great lady...yes everything about her, speaks of greatness. She stood for good, when so much evilness was abound, yet the same fight continues today...

I am happy to share that I met Mrs. Hamer my freshman year in college. I was so impressed with what she stood for. I thank God for raising up Mrs. Fannie Lou Hamer to be a woman of faith and great courage in speaking out against the oppression of Black people in MS and the South and fighting for their right to vote without being restricted by unjust voting laws. Because of her passionate push for voting rights, her strength, her faith, her courage, her fearless outspokeness, her steadfast commitment, her great sacrifice, and her indomitable spirit, she deserves to be recognized for playing a significant role in getting the voting restriction laws changed, increasing Black voter registration, and getting the 1964 Voting Rights Act passed. She left such a remarkable legacy that is so courageous and so inspiring.

How about the other sharecroppers? Your comment sounds well intentioned but has undertones of racial/classist stereotypes attached to it. There are many intelligent people from all walks of life, most of whom we'll never hear of because they'll never "make it".
