@@pxvn1969 yeah but in the movie the actual person is Orion, not Optimus. Same person, if Optimus is proper made/introduced from the Autobot who was Orion then that will be different. But it's a prequel to show how Optimus became the Prime he is and same with the rest
@@pxvn1969 Orion Pax became Optimus when he was reformatted by the matrix of leadership, so I wouldn’t be surprised if, after receiving the matrix, Peter Cullen takes the mic, because he is no longer Orion Pax, he is now Optimus Prime
(Made an update after the second trailer: it’s after my initial comment) Some clarification: Peter Cullen wasn’t recast. Peter Cullen has simply never voiced Orion Pax before, only Optimus. They used a different, younger sounding VA for Orion back when he was used in the G1 cartoon. Besides, from all that I’m hearing, it sounds like Peter Cullen will be in Transformers: One, but only when Orion becomes Optimus Prime. So we’ll see what happens. (July 2024 Update edit): So based on the second trailer, and news from the screenings it does not appear that Peter Cullen will be voicing Optimus Prime once Orion Pax gets the matrix; which is a missed opportunity if you ask me. Based on some of the reports from the screenings, the new reports seem to indicate that Chris will eventually be doing a Peter Cullen Optimus Prime voice. I know the trailer shows Chris just using an American accent when he’s voicing Optimus, but there is still that “all as one” line which does sound more like he’s delving into a Peter Cullen impression; which would further correlate to Chris stating that Peter Cullen helped him for the voice acting role, so we’ll see what happens. With that said though, it does not mean Peter Cullen has been entirely recast from the franchise as a whole. He’s still voicing Optimus in the Transformers x G.I.Joe movie, and for any other live action movies they’re able to make that have Optimus in them. And should Transformers One become successful enough to warrant a sequel movie (or sequel series), then hopefully they’d then bring in Peter Cullen to voice Optimus. Ultimately, Peter Cullen not voicing a version of Optimus is not anything new, it’s just the first time that he hasn’t voiced Optimus for a Transformers movie. But again, he still has roles as Optimus Prime for foreseeable future projects, it’s just that he unfortunately will not be in this specific movie.
@@darthvaderdylan That was Optimus Prime with amnesia thinking he was Orion Pax, not Orion Pax proper. If it was genuinely Orion Pax then Optimus would have reverted to Orion in both mind and body as the flashback scenes show that Orion had a different design than Optimus. But all he did was revert back to his Orion persona, he didn’t fully become Orion again. Peter was voicing an Optimus who thought he was Orion Pax, but that was still Optimus Prime, not Orion Pax.
@@jaydonmagan4694that and transformers prime could not afford an extra voice actor for 3 to 4 episodes The animation type alone already took most of their budget
@@darthvaderdylan1 he was still Optimus just with amnesia and 2 transformers prime could not afford another voice actor for 3 to 4 episodes of Orion pax they were already on the tight budget
@@jaydonmagan4694Ok, it wasn’t Optimus thinking he was Orion. He simply was Orion given that the matrix is what makes Prime himself the experiences all of that is from the matrix. Also aligned continuity he wasn’t rebuilt like most versions.
He's a robot so how does his voice grow up??? By the time we see him in most of the shows and movies he's millions of years old so maybe in that time he had to replace his voice or something... side note I grew up with transformers armada so not having gpeter Cullen isn't an issue for me
@davec3651 lol it's all just funny to me because I grew up with transformers armada and beast machines/wars so I never heard peter Cullen until I got the DVD release of the 80s movie and hated his voice because it wasn't Optimus to me and watching armada which seemed more grounded i hated the idea of Optimus originally being Orion pax
People have to remember that these are the "Young" versions of the cybertronians. Where Orion is not yet given the title of Prime, and where D-16's jealousy slowly led to his tyranny earning him the name Megatron.
The name "Megatron" wasn't derived from tyranny. He named himself after his idol, Megatronus Prime, the owner of the COG (transformation device) used by D-16 (a.k.a Megatron) after pulling it out of Sentinel Prime, the one who killed Megatronus Prime as well as the other Primes. Additionally, it wasn't jealousy which led him to whom he eventually became. It was anger and trust issue. He wanted to kill Sentinel Prime and so he did, for betraying Cybertron and swore to Optimus Prime (formerly Orion Pax) not to trust in another so-called-leader, again.
Funny enough, when he said “I accept those terms”, he sounded like Gary Chalk in Armada. I don’t think we have anything to worry about with Chris Hemsworth voicing Optimus
Chris Evan voicing buzz lightyear over tim Allen is another 1 that's just wrong on so many levels. And especially why they past him over because he's a republican
What nobody realizes that Orion prime when he gets turned into Optimus prime, he was rebuilt before he gets the mantle. He is a different robot so he would have a different voice.
“This looks fine, but man is it weird to hear Peter Cullen not voice Optimus Prime.” Neil Kaplan: *Robots in Disguise* (2001). Gary Chalk: *Unicron Trilogy.* David Kaye: *TF Animated.* John Bailey: *Combiner Wars & Several Ads.* Dick Terhune: *Cyberverse.* Jake Tillman Foushee: *War for Cybertron Trilogy.* Alan Tudyk: *Earthspark.* I know Peter is the most well known Optimus Prime, and the ideal voice for most. But it’s not like he’s the only actor who’s ever voiced Optimus for 40 years. At this point, we should definitely be used to hearing Optimus be voiced by someone else, as nowadays Peter only voices Optimus for the live action movies. Last time we saw him as cartoon Optimus was the Power of the Primes mini-series way back in 2018.
True. I liked J.T. Foushee's performance in the WFC trilogy and I was introduced to transformers through the Unicron Trilogy and I watched TF Animated when it aired on Cartoon Network so I'm no stranger to hearing a different voice for Optimus Prime.
It because most people that complain about the voice is the bayverse fans. I swear to god, but man...they are very delusional and alway tie everything to the bayverse and refuse to believe that no other timeline except the bayverse
Say what you will but I think Peter has earned his rest an pass his wisdom down he's given us so many years of prime I think Hemsworth makes a great Orion an possibly new optimus
Okay but when they went back in time to meet orion pax (in the comics i think) they didnt even recognize him as optimus prime because his voice was so different. It makes sense that Peter Cullen isnt voicing him
An in the G1 cartoon they went back an meet Pax and Dion and Ariel its weird there calling Elita one that instead of Ariel her Original name before upgrades.
Depends on the comics continuity and there have been several. But in IDW at least the change is in title. He is still a badass before becoming Optimus prime. I really recommend everyone who considers themselves a transformers fan read idw's run that started in like...2005
peter cullen is a voice actor, he has a wide vocal range and with frank welker who also has vocal range, they could've played the parts of younger optimus and megatron with the same banter and chemistry
Chris actually consulted with Peter Cullen to perfect his voice as young Optimus Prime! Mad respect for Chris!! He cares and changed his voice to sound like a young Optimus with Peter's guidance!! Loved this movie so much!!
I love it Cheis Hemsworth has done in my opinion a wonderful job of being young Optimus Prime we were introduced to Optimus when he was already weathered and aged I think Chris Hemsworth voiced young hopeful Optimus and did a damned good job at it. You can hear what will eventually become the Optimus we all know and love I'm glad they chose another voice to do the younger version
Chris hemsworth did an amazing job doing a young optimus voice. I honestly could believe it eventually turning into what he'll eventually sound like. even though he's a sought after actor, he still put in real effort to mimic peter Cullen's impression unlike what chris pratt would've
Other than a few obligatory roles in video games and TV shows where he voiced characters he's played in live-action, this is his first time doing voice work for an animated character. And he's actually killing it without sounding too recognizable.
he also seems to have taken inspiration from TFA Optimus, I mean, his and Kaye's voice are quite close to each other. also, idc if Cullen doesn't voice this Optimus, he has already done enough and will forever be the most iconic voice. man can have some rest, and people need to learn to let go, cuz ffs, this shit is really bringing the entire industry to the drain.
This doesn’t surprise me that they had someone else voice Orion Pax. I mean, in the original cartoon, when the Ariel Bots got transported back to the Golden Age of Cyberstron, Orion Pax was voiced by someone else. And Elita One who was Ariel back then, was voiced by the actor who played Jem in Jem and the Holograms
@Red-Renegade-Studios obviously either his tone will change or they'll just straight up get Frank Welker to voice Megatron when D-16 gets his change to Megatron
I'm always open to new actors playing the role. It's ridiculous to expect Peter Cullen to play the role forever. What is important is if the actor attempts to bring the feel of Optimus that Peter established in the role. Chris definitely sounds like he's trying to give the sound of G1 Optimus.
As jarring as it is at first, keeping in mind just how long the Autobot-Decepticon war was, and that we are starting a great deal of time before that, with Orion Pax not Optimus Prime, I find it believable that Optimus’ voice could have easily changed over time. After fighting to free Cybertron, then millions of years of warfare, during which countless friends and comrades have been lost in the war, carrying the burden of command, leadership, not to mention injuries he may have suffered as well, having his voice change with time is not inconceivable. Just like I don’t expect Kup from G1 to have sounded the same as he did in the 1986 Animated Film, as he would have when he was a young and inexperienced Autobot.
Can we appreciate the fact he isn't just doing his normal voice. So many actors now aren't even putting in the work to make themselves sound different when playing characters.
Chris is actually acting to sound like Cullen in this movie it seems (I mean, by the time when he's Optimus), and so does B. Henry with Megatron. both are really doing some heavy lifting to sound like the characters, while not pressing themselves too much to sound like any specific actor, which is awesome. it seems ('least from the trailers) that Cooley (the director) actually understand these characters and transformers in general, unlike Bay.
He really dose sound like a young prime, and the megatron actor really put the work in too for those emotional moments. All in all id say a very good voice cast that i hope to hear more from.
Neil Kaplan: Optimus Prime Gary Chalk: Optimus Prime David Kaye: Optimus Prime Jon Bailey: Optimus Prime Jake Foushee: Optimus Prime Alan Tudyk: Optimus Prime
Also, people need to realize Peter Cullen has only voiced about half the incarnations of Optimus. Armada/Energon/Cybertron? Not Peter. Animated? Not Peter. Beast Wars? You get the idea. He really only voiced G1/ G2, the Bayverse, and everything since the Bayverse. There's a good 15-year chunk of no PC voicing OP. It doesn't HAVE to be him. It SHOULD be, but it's not a requirement.
Rule number 1: most of the time, don't take the fandom's opinion too seriously. They'll always find something to criticize, no matter how good something is.
I think Chris Hemsworth did an excellent job as Orion Pax. You can really hear how Orion matures throughout the movie, both in speech patterns and tone. It was a well done and well thought out characterization.
People who think this is weird clearly never grew up in the era from Beast Wars to Animated. Before the “live-action” movies took off, we had Garry Chalk, Daniel Riordan, & David Kaye as Optimus.
Garry Chalk has probably voiced Optimus Prime as much as Peter Cullen has.. David Kaye also pulled off a really good young "Optimus Prime" in Transformers animated.. Arguably one of the best Transformers cartoon..
Chris did justice to the role and the show was excellent. My kids, hubby and I are Transformers fan. Hubby and I are already in our 40s. It’s better than all the live action crap from before tbh. And the kids liked it as much as G1 movie.
People seem to forget that there was a not insignificant period where Peter Cullen did not voice Optimus. Garry Chalk essentially voiced him from 1996 through the mid 2000s, with David Kaye playing him in Transformers Animated and both of them played Optimus very well.
Does people ever just let Peter Cullen be? Hes already in his 80s give him a break, and in addition we aren't looking at Optimus Prime, we are looking at Orion Pax.
It’s not just that people want to see him in bigger roles, but he himself has went on record, stating that he wishes that he could always play Prime in transformers media, but a both Hollywood and hasbro don’t seem too keen on giving him these roles now for whatever reason. It’s just passionate fans being passionate about their favorite role model.
People forget that Peter Cullen didn't voice Optimus Prime for about 2 decades before coming back to the role. He also hasn't been the only one to voice him in even animation since his return to the role.
Chris Hemsworth seems to be doing good for a young Optimus for this movie. However if I were to cast anyone else as the Prime that isn’t Cullen is Liam Neeson.
As much as Hemsworth is definitely doing his own thing with the character, you can feel moments where he touches on the icon of the character… and while he’s not copying Cullen’s performance in those moments, you can feel how he’s tapping into the same gravitas.
I love how his voice change during the fill, getting really close to the Optimus from the Michael Bay's fillms at the end of transformers one. He did a really good job.
Some of us have been hearing Cullen as Prime for literally our entire lives. That's literal decades. It's ALWAYS going to be difficult to hear another Optimus.
There have been more shows without Cullen as Prime than with him, many of which came out before the live-action movies. If you’re not used to different VAs by now it’s because you haven’t been paying attention.
@@magnusprime962 Oh I have been...and they're just not the same. I was born in 1982. I was there for gen 1 Transformers. I've literally been here since the beginning...and that beginning was Peter Cullen. I couldn't name any of the other VA's offhand because they just don't hit right the same way Cullen does. That's not to say the other VA's are bad actors in their own right (though some of them are...mediocre at best;) but Peter Cullen MADE Optimus Prime. He just got it THAT right. It's not everyday a voice brings a character to life that perfectly but once it happens, it's DAMNED hard for anyone else to truly take their place. To call him "Iconic" is a staggering understatement. Optimus may be the last Prime...but Peter Cullen was the first.
I do find it funny that they’re trying to justify him sounding different because he’s younger…but like…as far as I know transformers don’t have puberty…
It was proven many times that Transformers do age. Appearing like young adults to seniors with beards and wrinkles. Besides, it was mentioned Orion Pax was rebuilt into Optimus Prime so it's only natural he sounds and acts different and younger. One entire episode of the G1 cartoons shows this.
They don’t have puberty but they still have voice boxes, which could change depending on age. And they can age; you won’t find a Cybertronian born exactly as an old mech. Even Sentinel and Kup were young at some point
I don't know how it will be handled in the movie, but originally Orion Pax was destroyed, and he was rebuilt into Optimus Prime. He wasn't the same being. He did retain some memories, though.
@@jeremygeorgia4943 It depends on the continuity. In one, he was destroyed and rebuild with a body designed for battle. In another, he received the Matrix and was reformatted into Optimus Prime. In another, he joined the Autobots, was rebuilt for battle and received the Matrix and the title of Prime some time during or near the end the war. In the War for Cybertron game, he was already an experienced soldier who denied his role as a Prime until the last one was killed by Megatron. Later receiving the Matrix. In the Prime cartoon, he received the title of Prime before the war started. With all these variations, it doesn't really matter in what order they do it. As long as they portray it well in the movie.
Peter gave his fair well during rise of the beasts, that’s why Optimus primes’ face was designed after peter himself. it’s okay to say goodbye to your favorite voice actor. everyone was okay with spider man being replaced 3 different times i think it’s fair that peter finally gets to enjoy his retirement
To me, Peter's deeper voice is for a Prime that's seen ages of conflict and strife in his older age. With Chris, there's still some young and hope in his portrayal of Orion Pax.
The guy that made Bumblebee, the Cybertron war in the beginning. That shit was dope. He should be making Transformers movies. He's a true G1 fan he's 50 I'm 52. We were there man!!!
And plenty of other TF media has been catering to your demographic for the last fifteen years. G1 is getting new comics, cartoons, and toy lines every few years. There’s plenty of material out there for you. It’s okay for Transformers to do different things too.
I love how the throughout the film, you can hear Orion’s voice evolves, and then we finally get the real voice of Optimus/Chris’. You can hear the youth in Orion and D-16, i love this movie a lot, I didn’t watch a trailer or even know that it was coming out. My boys just got me to go watch it and it blew me out the waters. I felt good being a grown kid 😂😂
The voice was completely fine, the only moment i thought it was off, was when prime made his speech for the miners, clearly having Chris try to sound more like Culling, but even tho it was fine.
Just watched and I love the orgin story art. I really thought they held true to what was done in the 80s as a fan from a child it was very refreshing to have the tie in and to see why star scream always try to assume leadership from Megatron and why he's always plotting.
Everyone seem to forget not only is this "fictional" but go watch it 1st and then u will c why us true fans LOVE this movie. Excellent job Hasbro, Spielberg, Bay, and all of the voice cast. Cannot wait for the sequel
That’s pretty awesome a young prime that’s awesome. God bless Mr. Peter for all the primes, but this other one is definitely meets the eye of another prime.
What made the movie great was the slow progression of orion pax to optimus prime. At the begining of the movie he is hyper and impulsive with a smart mouth, but by the end, he is slow speaking and wiser and i think his voice goes deeper. Its subtle but fantastic and he does a great job of getting close to Peter Cullen by the end.
Honestly, I would be okay if Chris Hemsworth voiced an older Optimus in the future, especially with the inevitable retirement or passing of Peter Cullen, the original Optimus voice actor.
Been a fan since the 80s this looks ok to me. My kids want to see it and that’s really all that’s important. Not every new version of something we loved as kids needs to cater to us. It’s ok to refresh things for new generations to like. I’m just happy these characters and stories are still out there being used. If you don’t like it you done have to see it.
I actually really liked it because it shows him before he becomes a warhardened veteran.. And I remember something about Peter Cullen talking about basing optimus's voice off of his brother's voice and I believe his brother was actually in the military.
Oh please, this isn't the first time Ootimus has been voiced by a different actor. There's so many iterations already, I'm just looking forward to this film!!❤❤❤
