Mad as in she was going about this completely peaceful and would not go into war without being provoked. But that has now completely changed

Aemond meant to either force Arrax to land, capture Lucerys and take his eye; or just kill him. Aemond was smart enough in terms of handling the largest and oldest of the Targaryen dragons to know that you don't direct Vhagar to attack a dragon without expecting her to, well, go for a full-out-attempt to kill. Maybe he didn't realize that Arrax would spit fire at Vhagar; but he should have considered that it could happen, and how she would react. And he should have shut his mouth instead of laughing and screaming threats; Vhagar didn't need Aemond to ramp up the hostility level.

The conflict in Storm's End and over Shipbreaker Bay wasn't between a bunch of power-hungry people, it was between Aemond and Luke and their dragons (who were mostly directed by their riders). Luke didn't start or end the conflict; he just wanted to deliver his mother's message to Lord Baratheon and return to Dragonstone. Aemond wanted to terrorize Luke and hopefully mutilate or even kill him. We saw the young Targaryens and Velaryons as boys being given training on how to manage dragons in the dragonpits, by experienced dragonkeepers; we also saw the child Aemond on the receiving end of the fire of an annoyed dragon in that same dragonpit. He knew very well that annoyed dragons spit flame. I think Aemond derived emotional sustenance and strength from Vhagar; suddenly going from sullen middle loose-end middle child to swaggering rider of the biggest dragon in the world. (While Luke tried to give strength and calmness to his dragon when they were both feeling intimidated by their enemies). In the book Fire & Blood, on which the TV series is based, the dragon Sunfyre seems to be the only being that Aegon truly loves; he certainly regards him as more than a superweapon.

It's all about a lineage, Rhaenyra's descendants are like a 60% of GOT characters and Otto's/Alicent's line died in war so Rhaenyra won obviously

I think she was primarily counting her and her children, and even if Caraxes and Seasmoke is, well, Seasmoke is riderless. She is also being very careful not to assume Meleys and the Velaryons are already with them.

We know that there is a lifetime bond between a rider and their dragon, so is that bond just an emotional connection, or is it more of a psychic bond, like a warg may have? And if that's the case, what happens when a rider fakes their death? Will Seasmoke be open to a new rider? I'm just looking for speculation, if you've read fire and blood please don't tell me how it turns out

True, but they shouldn't have had the scene play out like that. It was supposed to give Rhaenys this big moment, but all it did was show her failing to take action, and her dragon killed a bunch of innocent bystanders. It made her look weak and foolish.

Killing the Greens would be a plothole, do you forget that Rhaenys is not friends with Rhaenyra or Daemon, quiet the opposite actually, she believed them involved in the death of both her twins, so why would she kill for them all of the sudden, and not to mention sweet Haelena, why kill her, they're still her cousin's kids... and even if she was in good terms with Rhaenyra do you forget Corlys also doesn't like Rhaenyra and he's injured, she's going to need him for such a bold move, that's why she didn't kneel to Rhaenyra at the coronation. She was not getting Merleys any other way than through the people, what other choice did she have, earlier they even show she can't even go back because of the crowd, their deaths are a small price for a dragon, she's not foolish or weak.

And although Rhaenys & Corlys believe Rhae to have been involved in her son's death, they still recognize their kin (baela, and the other one that I can't remember rn) are with Rhaenyra and Daemon on Dragonstone. Also-while I'm sure she thinks well of Haelena, she was never close with her. Haelena could catch a fever and die and the most I can guess Rhaenys saying is something like "That's unfortunate".

@@skinnypomegranate I just don't understand how your points counter mine, yes she was locked in her room but why burn her cousin's kids though? Rhaenyra and Daemon are her kin yes, but so are the Greens, remember she had a chance to take Rhaenyra's side, but she didn't, she reluctantly did it bcz Viserys was there, she also advocated for disinheriting Luke knowing it would weaken Rhaenyra and that was before Laenor died, point is, she doesn't care enough for Rhaenyra to kill for her. She is not close to any of the Greens not just Helaena, but is that reason enough to dracarys them though? (fun fact: Helaena and Rhaenys both ride female dragons and both have boy and girl twins, she would be making those twins orphans, surely she wouldn't want that outcome)

​@@mazdakmina9493 Every answer I've given is derived from previous interactions and events that were shown and Rhaenys' character in general, the scene is not as you say 'almost entirely symbolic', if you watch the 'Inside the episode' for episode 9, the showrunners talk about the scene and there's no shred of word that the scene symbolizes the relationship between the 2 sides or anything close to that, instead it was added entirely to give Rhaenys some urgency and a standout moment and that's it.. they also gave a dumb answers why she didn't dracarys them. please tell me where you got this 'symbolism' idea from, bcz you're just wrong about almost everything you wrote, you even come up with a 'solution' to a problem that doesn't exist... You say you agree that the scene left a massive plot hole, I said killing them creates the plot hole (meaning there's NO plot hole bcz Rhaenys is NOT with the Greens and more importantly she's NOT with Rhaenyra either, so she's NOT doing her dirty work) Everyone has a different reason why they're not starting the war, but the war has started nevertheless; Rhaenyra's supporters have already been slain and imprisoned, Aegon has just been crowned (I don't see a bigger declaration of war than this), that's why I like Daemon's question to Rhaenys next episode, she wouldn't be starting a war, but ending one. You say all Green dragon riders are in the Dragon Pit, but Daeron is not there; Hobert Hightower and Green supporters are still out there and they would want him on the throne, so killing them might trigger a different war. You say both sides are terrified of starting the war, "this conflict will not be started because of me", but as I said the war has already began and for one, Daemon is not terrified (the only rider with war experience), and Rhaenyra is concerned with the war, yes, but I wouldn't say she's terrified as you explain it, dragons also make a good deterrent for war... Rhaenys is not worried about the greens (there's no dragon insight) it's the perfect escape, they won't have a chance to do anything, she also wasn't planning to attack them anyway, the thing she's worried about are the doors closing... I think Aemond has no intention of a actually killing Luce he just wants to scare him, he was also probably ordered by Otto not to engage in any combat as both sides are still gathering allies. And as the saying says a cornered prey would eventually lash out and fight back and that's what Arrax did and it pissed off Vhaegar and went out of control

I agree. Aemond is a freakin psycho. Vhagar almost chomped Luke and Arrax a few times before they dipped into the cavern. He was out for blood and got it.

Well, that speaks to Targaryens and how they overestimate their own power and importance. Aemond thought he could control a beast like Vhagar. He played with Lucerys because in his mind, there was no way he wasn't strong enough to control the she-dragon. Now, Aemond is put in a lose-lose situation. He can either admit to doing the killing on purpose, and earning the eternal hatred of the blacks, or tell the truth, admit he couldn't control Vhagar, and look weak in front of the greens.

@@sebadrum16 That's true. But Aemond doesn't care if he earns the eternal hatred of the Blacks because he hates them already and he doesn't want to look weak. Perhaps that moment when he saw Lucerys and Arrax die was Aemond's last moment of clarity as well, the young man who didn't want to murder his weaker nephew perished and Aemond Kinslayer was born.

dragons know how to play. Remember ep 6? Laena and Daemon were playing with Caraxes and Vhagar but they didn't kill each other. Aemond though he could control her too.
