I'm all for this big time. Fans Toys is getting carried away with their price points and they need to be humbled in my opinion. I'm waiting for a Fans Toys soundwave KO.
I have both KOs and official figures and i'm very impressed by both KOs. For the price they are really good, especially Thomas. The legs on my KO Quietus aren't loose like yours though. For a QC comparison, my official Quietus can't even hold up his guns because they screwed up his elbows and arm swivels with the last reissue and they are *extremely* loose. An over $200 figure that can't hold a gun in either hand. So both KO and official Quietus are on par quality-wise other than the chest paint. Mine also has some light orange peel. My KO Thomas is the better KO of the two but not by much. Only thing i had to fix was the head tilt because they forgot to add a notch to the inside of the head's screw post like the official has. Everything else was spot on. I also didn't have to worry about the chest panel breaking like i did with my official Thomas. Now I just have to re-box my FT figures and display the KOs instead. For anyone considering these, if you don't want to overspend for the real thing then these will more than do the job. Are they exact copies as far as quality? No, but they are very close.
Hi Mike, insightful and just cool. I've bought both from omp haven't shipped, but I publicly admitting a FTOYS order problem I had with Thomas astrotrain . He was another complete lemon from the product line, he came covered in shock oil to allow movement the paint that was purple yellow or red began smudging onto my hands everywhere in 2 weeks. Showz was great about it, I was sent another bowtie, but month ago his hands fingers began crumbling into pieces now no left hand at all, just a stubb. I was really angry, hes a shelf queen only, I literally just dust him but that's also fanstoys quality history 4me. Remember telling u Willis a completely wrecked leg on one side. I'm glad about ko's for them, many of us double up. This is a great option, I'm still getting official white Japanese NASA in December. But I'm getting the Quietis to customize paint as the 1st version & canceled order reissue at chosen pr.,saving money which I already gave fanstoys 4both bots. Ur so right here, this isn't going 2 affect their business negatively, imo one of them maybe as Takara did, selling factory fails but no legal action against the ko corporation. Because it's a corporation not bunch 9f little guys folks. Different laws across the pond how does SIR TOYS exist still, its a LLC mammoth corporation, happywell funtastic superway international or to us black mamba bmb. Back2me this helps unrich unhealthy folks have a nice collection of toys, movies and music, so No I don't care! Only if its hurting a small business directly do I care. Don't get me started about fanstoys copying the transformation of every competitor dropping bombs right as someone else releases. One day I really want to know what is fanstoys actually, obviously this is Japanese USA technology based company probably in Hong Kong and Tokyo. I look at bread crumbs but don't investigate, just a theory since density of plastic plus diecast metallic paints injection molded in the plastic mold is very prominently used. It gives the impression of a great paintjob which sometimes it Is but sometimes it Isn't. So one day in 5-8yrs we're all going to find out the big fascinating mystery of who the F**k they are. They're calling in on power in the global economy stock market & banking/loans debts owed to them for anonymity I think.
I have both and also have the original FT , i dont tramsform my figures so the ko are just fine for a display. I agree with the pink head sculpt on fleet commander thats why i took one of the FT faces and use that instead. Looks great.....
I'm all for slightly lower quality KOs for a cheaper price. Unfortunately, I already have Thomas. It would be nice if someone would KO some of the older FTs that I missed out on.
I was late to the FT Astrotrain & was hesitant when it was selling at $350. Ain’t gonna drop that kinda mullah. Glad I waited especially for the RP-44 KO for price it’s a huge value dollar for dollar
I got both of these and think they are great! I'm so used to having to fix or adjust things with expensive, cheap, official, and KO figures that nothing bothered me about these. I did have to fully take apart the Quietus KO at the waist because like I've seen in plenty of videos, the sliding waist piece just comes off. I found out that it appears they were too lazy to screw that part down and then fasten the hip skirts after which is what needs to be done since the hip skirts block the waist screws. Other than that MH-01 is pretty good. The paint seems fine and I wouldn't consider it an "orange peel" paint job rather they only clear coated certain parts and has a mix of gloss and matte look to him. I guess that's up there with the pink not matching. Thomas on the other hand feels extremely close to the original with some joints being better than my original. My original has very loose hips and thighs but insanely tight knee ratchets and pretty tight arms, while the KO is even through all the joints with perfect tension/friction. I'm happy with both, enough that had I'd known these were coming, I would have passed on the originals.
Thanks for the heads up advance advice tips for fixing any issues on ko Quietis friend. Yes my Thomas dies the MJ Smooth criminal lean on my shelf display just to not fall over.
Fanstoys got the game messed up by overcharging on their figures, limited production runs and insane aftermarket prices so I’m glad they are finally getting ko’d
I currently have 90% of the astrotrains out there. Just misssing this rp44 and the legacy 500 velocitron astrotrain lol. Thanks for the comparison. Really needed this video to see what the differences were.
I have the cyclonus ko and the fantoys no difference in feel between the two ko is almost 90% of tge original had no tabbing issues and paint is solid.
The head on the KO Thomas will move up and down but you gotta take the head apart and trim a plastic piece that’s oversized. Just a little tiny piece of plastic overrun that hinders it. I did notice with mine as with the one you have. The official is a pinch taller.
My KO Thomas just shipped from TF-Direct, so I’m looking forward to handling it. Not gonna lie, I do wish I got the official. I’ve been liking FansToys after I got their Roadking. I think they make excellent quality figures. It’s just they are too expensive. Got my chance to get the KO since I heard it was good and is significantly cheaper than even the reissued repaints. I like FansToys, but they charge way too much these days.
In my case it was really simple . I bought KO Quietus because I need some Decepticon for my Galvatron figure and Cyclonus was a natural choice. I'm not a big fan of this character so don't picked up FT but I was really interested into MH-01 and he just arrived like yesterday. The quality is very acceptable for me compare to other third party companies and I don't regret it. Personally I'm more a DX9 fan.
I already have two FT Thomas figures, and even then wanted them to be a little taller. Your side by side after the 14:44 mark makes it seem that the KO is smaller, so I might not get this KO. Now, if they do both the other color decos, 🤔I'm in!😄
i have both KO’s and they are great! i agree that Cyclonus is the weaker of the two but mine is not floppy at all. Thomas is great! i don’t own the originals to compare but for what i paid i’m happy.
lookin good so far. Fanstoys makes the almost best looking Figures with (sometimes a little stiff) superb ongoing Quality Production............but the Prices are Insane................almost like collecting Hot Toys Figures or smth like that .............very nice , but for me, unfortunately it isn´t possible to get them all.............that´s why I Ko sometimes........
Ko are hit and miss. Sometimes they are better than the original. but in this case these are just ok .thanks Mike for a great review have a good weekend!
I prefer the original fanstoys, but I am really thankful for the KOs as they whipped FT back to reality. Thanks to them, Fantoys' practice of "we overcharge because we can" has been stopped dead on its tracks LOL... the reasonably-priced FT Cerebros and Trailbreaker are proofs of this. Plus KOs also put some pressure on FT to re-issue the original bots again at reasonable prices. The secondary market price for those bots was just too ridiculously high so its a big help for newer collectors to be able to get them at retail prices. Now, the big question is: when are the KO Dinobots coming? LOL
I have both aswell and for the price they are a very good deal compared to the originals. Yes they have some issues but the floppyness of Quietus can be solved by adjusting the screws. (Mine was actually pretty good so didn't have to adjust anything). The softer details are not the result of bad mold copying. It's all about what plastic is used to inject into the mold. Some just "cure" softer then others. Just take a look at the railroad that comes with Thomas. It's a softer plastic then what Fanstoys used for theirs. But being only a display stand that doesn't bother me at all. The hands and knees on the Quietus KO are actually better then on my original so that a bonus. On the Thomas KO I actually have nothing really bad to say. Solid fig and holds well in all modes. Some paint differences between the original but imo thats only noticable if you put them side to side. If you are new to the hobby these 2 figures are a great entry point to expand upon without having to sell your kidney first and if you are a long time collector, Quietus is nice to army build and Thomas if you don't have him in your collection yet or you want to show him in different modes. Will these KO's hurt Fanstoys? I doubt it. Seeing as these are older figures and have been reissued a few times allready so they are just milking older releases instead of focusing on finnishing figures and teams we are actually waiting for.
Thanks Mike. I'm going to wait and see if another company KOs Cyclonus. I'm still a pass on Astrotrain, Beyond G1 sheet 1. Galvatron, Cyclonus, and Scourge are characters I'd care to have as MPs. If no one else does a better one, I'll pick one up and polish it a bit. I don't think it's a threat to FT, I don't think they're trying to be.
My FansToys Perceptor was garbage quality, worse than KOs, and the thing chips paint like crazy if you transform it anyway. They still haven't got back to me about replacement parts (or, honestly, a whole figure considering how messed-up mine was out of the box). These KOs honestly don't seem like much of a step down compared to the garbage quality control I've been experiencing with legit FansToys products recently (not just Tesla 2.0), so I'll probably grab these two at some point. Hell, I wanted to buy Astrotrain when he originally came out. I had the money... and I couldn't get a pre-order anywhere. And then the price went up to something like $300 not long after it came out. No thanks.
I guess your mileage may vary when it comes to these guys. Hey I look at it I am paying an 80.00 toy VS a 200.00 is a good option if you cannot afford the official. That saying quality and parts maybe reduce to help bring down the cost.
the feet screws were loose. it didnt do anything for the hips. i think that was the only issues i had with my copy. i have ko thomas on the way. should be here within a couple weeks
Do you thin KOs come from the mold being "borrowed" from the original factory? I feel like that might be how these are made. The mold gets returned before the bosses know it was gone.
For Thomas backpack you really just have to shove it in behind his neck, it pops over and kind has to flex and then you push down that metal bar and it goes flush
Of course these hurt FT, I can’t see how you could think otherwise. Selling these lowers demand for the FT reissues. FT has higher margins on a reissue than on a new design. QED. I don’t want to support thieves, and that’s what a KO is. While I don’t think 3P hurts Takara, clearly KOs hurt the entire industry. If we want MP to continue, we shouldn’t support KOs.
Unfortunately MH02 kinda just looks like a strict downgrade from the original for not even that much cheaper (given you could’ve picked up the original Mista for about $100 a while back). And unlike a toon robot where a downgrade in paint isn’t THAT consequential to its overall appearance, one of Mista’s big selling points is its excellent paint and weathering which makes it look much more “realistic”. If it was like $50 it might be worth it if you missed the original but at $80-90 it’s just too expensive for too big of a downgrade, IMO.
Funny how a knock company like Fanstoys, who is stealing and using the transformers IP without permission from Hasbro and Takara is complaining about their toys getting ripped off. LMAO
Great Comparison!!! I don’t know about these KOs. All the reviews say they’re OK (not great), until they are transformed. Then it’s “Well its a KO what did you expect ?“. I like Fanstoys for their quality and the KO lacks that. Takara KOs on the other hand seem better than the OGs.
Id feel better buying a KO of a 3rd party product over a hasbro or takara design . And i buy them anyway as they all over charge us as is just look at the price of offical master pieces theres no way mp44 or mp 52 any of the modern ones are priced reasonably . So over priced 3rd party that have stolen the ip from hastak even if they make an original designed product from it then get ripped off themselves is a case of live by the sword die by the sword to me . Its hard for them to get mad about it i feel
