The Pure Toon Accuracy is what is Faulting many of these new releases. FTs used to have that Herioc look, that Toon look(Not Copy), and Function over Form...Now its trying to be XTB Virtus instead of FTs Dinos, Cyclonus, and or Jet Fire. I hope DS makes a Metalic Paint version...it will be the Perfect G1 MP Blaster.
I know you don't have the DS on hand, but it is FAR better articulated than the Fanstoys. It's ab-crunch alon is so well done it deserves a point just for that. I know you go by U.S. domestic pricing, but the DS is still widely available for $90. It's frustrating that you claim that the prices are equal when the same places that have the DS at $90 have the FT at $200 and the KFC at $150.
DS is the best overall. Not as derpy at FT (dumb low shoulders, minimal detail), not as weird proportions as KFC (wasp waist, tiny biceps). Got all 3 though.
I know a lot of people are all in on the Toon accuracy era, but I just can't look at Transistor and not feel we've missed out on a lot losing that idealized style.
Transistor still looks great. I miss the era of stylized masterpiece figures. I preferred it when Takara stylized things a bit and when 3rf party did as well. When everything isn't forced to be flat planes it is much easier to hide seams and gaps in the sculpt. With a lot of toon-accurate figures all I see are the unintentional panel lines and they rarely look good.
I find it interesting that KFC did as well as they did when you take into account that it's an older figure and from a company thay has a reputation of making subpar products. That said, I'd never get rid of my Resistor.
Personally I dislike KFC, because their designs are mostly floppy with weak joints. I own transistor too. He looks good enough, but I have to say his forearms are too bulky because they put all the kibble there.
My son (6) was playing among us on his phone while I was watching this, and during the part where your family picks which one they prefer he looked up as your daughter said she preferred the KFC and he said “because of the gun” and I thought, wow I never would’ve realized one was holding their weapon and the other isn’t, leave it to a child for that to be the deciding factor. He assumed (I would assume) that KFC’s came with a gun and therefore it made it more interesting or “better” to him. Just something to think about in the future when having them compared.
Honestly I went with the DS for a number of reasons. I think it's cleaner looking (not wholly "toon", just little kibble or anything anywhere like the KFC has issues with), it has the best proportions IMO, it hides the hardware better than the KFC doesn't, ratchets, and the price point. Blaster's one of those background characters most of them time, so getting a version that looks pretty darn good without breaking the bank is pretty much perfect IMO.
I can't agree more. I'd like KFC looks, but after buying, IDW Perceptor swears that I do not buy any KFC logo product again. And yes, the drawing looks more interesting than FT one, because of the black line's details. Love the new end conclusion ^^
If I get to the end of this VS and Bobby picks the FT to put into his display, Im gonna flip my keyboard over or toss my phone. I wanna add that articulation is hardly a fair comparison here when the figures are 7-8 years apart from release.
I think given the circumstances of not having the DS on hand this was fair. Although I think one category was over looked that FT wins hands down and that's the "Looking Derpy" category. The head sculpt and shoulders of the FT, toon accurate, are just off.
It's another edition of Bobby's "The new one is an obvious improvement, but I really like this one that I've had for years and I'm not going to change it".
As a Fanstoys only collector this one that I am really not excited about. I love the toon direction Fanstoys is going in, but this is not even that, because as you stated the toon image actually looks better. Fanstoys is going through something, not sure what, but I hope they come out aight on the other end of it.
I don't understand how DS Blaster is almost $200? They're all over eBay between $100-$120 shipped. It's the cheapest by far and the value leader easily. Months ago when I bought my DS Blaster I paid $130 shipped and they're even cheaper now. I agree with eveything else except the DS price tag relative to the other options. Nobody has to pay $200 for one. As far as the FansToys? If you want one buy one now. Once sold out the prices for him will start to climb. You don't want to be paying $250-300 a year from now. Prices on the KFC should hold in the $150-170 for the immediate future.
I’m so torn! I have the KFC chrome & love it but my entire collection is FT & this Blaster is more pose-able but not as like-able. Guess i’ll sleep on it. Great video Bobby, ty.
Great vs, thanks for doing it! I think a lot of people with the metallic paint transistor are going to have a hard time deciding to replace him or will at least keep him due to how amazing he looks. I wish fanstoys had gone a shade darker on the red and light grey and a bit metallic to make the line work stand out more and make him look better. Even the pelvis area would look better if the square shape stood out more to break up the space.
I think, as always, the was a fair assessment of the two bots. I have the second, non shiny version of the KFC, so the paint does not stand out. I am looking forward to getting the FTs in hand. I think I will be doing a similar thing as you with displaying them. Thanks Bobby.
Definitely not getting rid of Metallic Transistor... he just has so much flavor. Even though he feels like an egg shell ready to crack. I may pick up a FT if I get through my list of bots I'm behind on... and he is a reasonable price. As always... I think if companies look more as some detail and a clean transformation (no gapping holes ect) They will by far exceed the desire of fans over toon build. I want Masterpiece not Toonpiece :P (I guess at this by those I see with the sticker anime windows as true Toon collectors) But I will take toon accuracy over incomplete transformation every day. I wonder if there is a poll somewhere of those that prefer FT Blaster over the other 2, because that may prove my theory :P
The accessories, the gimmicks, the the build, the materials, the Hardware and paint I agree. The sculpt I would give to FT in every department (even the pelvis), the articulation and the transformation I agree. The alt mode in my opinion goes to FT. Regarding scale I think both are a bit to high so I would tie them and the price seems to go to KFC (I haven't paid for my FT Recorder yet though). I agree with the cartoon accuracy and the presence goes for FT. So in my opinion the end result is completely different the only point KFC gets is the price and they tie in some categories but FT ends up with 8 points over 1 from KFC. I agree that the FT may be the best but the DS is very close behind (I own the DS and I'm waiting on the FT so I will have to compare them and decide which one to sell when I have both in hand). Thanks for the comparison Mr. Skullface.
Awesome comparison! While an older design, the KFC just nails the proportions. And those rich colors pop so hard! I was hoping FT would knock this out of the park, given that Blaster is in my top 5 characters, but those proportions are SO freekin' goofy!
What is with the ads on this video? 5 within 1 minute? GOOD LORD! I Love Bobby though. I have the regular KFC and I wish I would have gotten the metallic one...
The only thing about KFC Transistor is that depending on which one u get will determine what accessories u get. I got the orange red one which includes all the tapes.
I still use the KFC as my MP blaster lol. I like the way it looks but its quality sucks compares to DS and obviously fanstoys. I like all 3 options for different reasons but if space and money wasnt an issue I would lean towards the fanstoys blaster. Love the paint and premium feel of fanstoys.
I've heard that the Deformation Space take on the character has very underwhelming paint due to being matte and it scratches when transforming. Is that true?
I love my Deformation Space Blaster and yes, since it's a matte paint finish, it doesn't look as good but, he's far from underwhelming. I would say the paint scratches, more like scuffs, as it's a matte finish. With that said, if you take your time transforming him, you won't scuff him up as badly as you'd think.
How does FT tie with DS on price? Or did I miss hear that? I regularly saw the DS at 89-110$. Just like DS this hyper toon look is not for me. I think if you want a toon accurate one the DS crushes FT. To me the XTB beats them both so badly with aesthetics that it's not even a contest beyond that.
I find comparison videos like these need to be done by someone who is truly impartial and not having a preference of 1 company over all others to get a truly honest result...lets be honest as we all know Bobby is a bit of an FT fan boy and thats why they win most of the time....while they havent always won i wonder if another person who is completley impartial did it would FT won as many times....and FT are NOT so far advanced over their competion
I don't want to see it with the DS. Everybody else is doing that. I think this is the more interesting comparison, the one I have been looking forward to. I always thought the paint finish made the DS look like a cheap toy, so never picked it up.
After watching your videos for so many years now, I know it's killing you, but nowadays cartoon accuracy sells better than the "more interesting sculpted detail" type figures. I like cartoon accuracy for my bot modes and more interesting details for the alt modes on my shelves. It's all subjective anyway. Everybody likes what they like and there's nothing wrong it. I have all 3 of the Blasters you referenced and like them all for different reasons so I win. You like the sculpted detail so you win with the KFC too. I told someone previously that if they're happy with a certain figure then I'm happy for them.
Fans Toys just looks boring. (boxy and plain) KFC just looks cheap (visible engineering, visible mold seams, globby paint apps) Personally, I'd give this one to KFC as it is more interesting looking overall and less hard on the wallet.
I watch these just for the comedy at this point, they’re so predictable. Let’s face it, you’re stuck in the MP-10 era aesthetic, why you continue to collect at this point is beyond me….and anyone going to you for advice in selecting a figure should really know this going in, as you’ve made it abundantly clear over the years. You’re like that guy at the stop light in the convertible 80’s sports car, blasting Van Halen’s “Jump”, rocking a mullet and a tank top… stuck in that era 😂😂😂
It's When and Why MP started...its where it should have kept going. Just because things change, it doesn't mean it's for the better. Before there were 2 bathrooms, then there were 3, and now there is going to be 4...soon 5 and in the END back to 2, because it's where it all started and when it was Real.
@@passionnotparked9099 it actually started with the simpler g1 style toys and toon designs, the aesthetics evolved over time and yes like you said they’re now returning to form. As for the bathrooms thing, yeah Biden voters
