Finally got one of these after all these years and HOLY CRAP. The hip articulation could be a smidge better, and it's painful to transform, but I finally see what all the fuss is about Fanstoys makes a quality bot.
Excellent review! I've never bought a 3p figure, but it seems this will be my first. It's kind of sad that in the 12 years of Takara's MP line , there has not been one Galvatron released. 3/4 of the main leaders in the G1 cartoon had at least one figure by 2009, but not him. Optimus, Megs, and Hot rod have had 2 released or in production but not a peep from Takara about a possible Galvatron. This looks awesome , relatively stable, and gasp not a lilac color like shockwave or the G1 reissue. I would have liked a light up feature,but that's a nitpick. Thanks again Emgo!
It was a bloody hard choice to make, but Tyrant won out eventually. Sovereign does a lot of things better, particularly the feet and legs, but I can't stress how much difference the head sculpt on Tyrant makes. His face really draws the eye and makes him stand out. Plus his cannon mode is miles better.
I really want too see this toy hooked up like a piece of artillery behind onslaught for some reason. You know cursing and shooting at random bystanders when they drive over any sort of bump
Funny you should mention displaying this version of Galvatron. I just got my Titans Return Galvatron from WalMart today. My favorite way to display him... jet thingy mode
I managed to snag the new, more movie accurate recolor Sovereign pre-order, and watching this video makes the wait for him to arrive seem like an eternity. But, I would have waited an eternity for this...his robot mode is amazing and I can't wait to finally have a animation-accurate Galvatron figure. He even has his little spats on his feet!
I like fanstoys more chest looks smaller us fans can always count on third party companies if Takara doesn't give us master piece figures of scourge, galavatron, cyclonus , triple changers and other characters
I'm with you. Hooray for more Galvatrons! Just think, these 3rd party offerings cost the same as the old E-Hobby Galvatron reissue, but they look so much better, and are practically Chogokin-like.
When I ratchet his arms down by his side (in robot mode) the black shoulder pads come down with it. Am I mistransforming it? The click comes from pushing the shoulders up or pushing them in?
The shoulder pads on mine move a bit with the arms too and it pushes out the purple panels under the arms. I wonder if they have strengthened the shoulder ratchets or something, but the shoulder pads don't seem to lock in place.
I looked and there is nothing for the purple panels to lock into. They are meant to be what hold the arms in place. I have turned the purple panels around (So the ridged sides are facing out) and they seem to stay in better that way. Theywill still come out if I move the arms but not when I just wiggle them slightly. May be worth putting a bit of glue on the side of the panels so they have a more snug fit.
i agree. the back of the cannon should be round. DX9 gets that right. it's hard to pick which one is better. i dont like the shoulder pauldrons dont lock in place o n DX9 either.
I love watching your reviews when it comes to buying a expensive third-party figure I watch your reviews carefully whether you like them or not it would give me my final decision I just purchased sovereign I'm glad I watch it I was going to get DX nine version of galvatron but thanks to you and your review the fans toys is awesome actually love it I will always watch your reviews before I purchase any of third-party or Transformers to find out whether they are good or not I take your opinion of figures very seriously and your reviews are a riot I always laugh very hard
I wish they would've done a bit more with their alt mode... Honestly, I think I like DX-9's alt mode a bit more. But, there's no doubt Fans Toys definitely dominates in Bot mode. Unfortunately, the leg ratchet spacing on DX-9 is too horrendous to forgive. That's my biggest issue with their not Galvatron.
Fabio Paciulli I don’t think Galvatron was a Japanese design, he was created long after the Diaclone designs were imported and used for the Transformers, so he’s more or less part of the American made wave.
I have to say this version of galvatron is amazing the head is very cartoon accurate and the design is amazing I don't normally want to buy 3rd party transformers but I think I'm going to look in to buying this one LOVE IT!
Damn piece of Art here Emgo. Great review. Coronation DX9? This is bad comedy............Fans Toys for the the WIN. DX9 was a nice filler but this is the Galvatron who should be on every collectors MP shelf!
I couldn't find the "just transform it!" video for this guy. Also I had Titans Return Galvatron, I may even still have him. His cannon form was the first of his alt modes that I part him in.
No light up gimmick????. It looks good but the grey seems a little bright. Hopefully there will be a darker version. Hopefully now. There will. Be a FT Megatron.
Watching these videos saves me money. I do not need to buy Transformers to see how they Transform which was always the most interesting part to me. When I was younger I had quite a few. I like how they look more cartoon accurate then they ever did in the late 80's early 90's and are much more intricate because of computer development.
Random thought about the Robot mode: Wouldn't it be a touch better/nicer if they included some sort of tube or hose to connect the Canon to the back, making it seem as if it's connected to a power source?
I kinda wonder who the third face is for then. I just got this guy and there's a third face with a set of blue eyes in the package with his screaming face.
poor looking cannon mode, but robot mode looks pretty solid. The cannon mode is essentially two different size cylinders attached to each other with some coloring on it. And the excessively long support strut in the back of the cannon really does nothing but sticks out like an eye sore. With such a complex transformation, the cannon mode is really unrewarding.
