Es una de las especies de aves más amenazadas en Estonia. En 2019 se estimó una población de tan solo 30 a 50 parejas reproductoras
Este búho real se alimenta principalmente de pequeños mamíferos: topillos, ratas, ratones, conejos y liebres. Sin embargo, se pueden matar presas del tamaño de zorros y marmotas adultos y ciervos jóvenes. El otro grupo importante de presas del búho real son otras aves y casi cualquier tipo de ave es una presa potencial. Las presas aviares comunes incluyen córvidos, urogallos, pájaros carpinteros, garzas y, especialmente cerca de las zonas costeras, patos, aves marinas y gansos.
Los búhos son aves de inmensa belleza, pero sus atributos a menudo pasan desapercibidos por tener hábitos mayormente nocturnos. Las hembras y los machos de esta familia de aves se juntan cada año con el objetivo de tener descendencia, pero luego de que los polluelos se independizan siguen caminos separados. Los búhos son muy buenos padres y se encargan de que sus crías reciban un buen cuidado parental, desde la incubación hasta que son capaces de valerse por sí mismos.

The nest is located on the northern coast of Estonia (Europe) on an artificial platform. The eagle owl is one of the largest species of owl, in fact it is the largest nocturnal bird of prey in Europe.
It is one of the most endangered bird species in Estonia. In 2019, a population of only 30 to 50 breeding pairs was estimated.
This eagle owl feeds mainly on small mammals: voles, rats, mice, rabbits and hares. However, prey the size of adult foxes and marmots and young deer can be killed. The eagle owl's other major prey group is other birds, and almost any type of bird is potential prey. Common avian prey include corvids, grouse, woodpeckers, herons and, especially near coastal areas, ducks, seabirds and geese.
Owls are birds of immense beauty, but their attributes often go unnoticed due to their largely nocturnal habits. The females and males of this family of birds come together every year with the aim of having offspring, but after the chicks become independent they go their separate ways. Owls are very good parents and ensure that their young receive good parental care, from incubation until they are able to fend for themselves.
