It takes my breath away... realy. Yundi Li is fantastic pianist. It sounds so clean, so airy. Love Chopin, love Yundi.

I think seeing his facial expressiona are priceless! A good pianist plays with his whole body and soul, not just his hands. My hats off to him!

i am a piano teacher myself and i took me a long time to get this piece, a real long time, i am not impressive and i admire pianists such as yundi li, i wouldn't say we must like the piano,i think us pianists have our own lovers, our own mistreses,, the music the iano creates and how it liberates us, how we twist it and bring it into our wourld, i love it, i practiced alot, i am well renounded like yundi but... you are right, we must love the instrument to perform

It's absolutley amazing, Li Yundi is for ineterpretation of chopin the no. 1. He has a lot of expression and tecnically he's perfekt. just great!!!

yundi is like, the BEST pianist EVAH!! he rocks soo hard. and hes the only one on youtube i cant find any problems in playing fantasie impromptu.
@gssaggu1

What's great about this piece is the fact that the polyrhythm makes it sound like a continuous dialogue with Q&A. Yundi Li has officially pwned all the fantasie impromptus on RU-vid (even that child prodigy! - who is MUCH better than me)

This is an extremely difficult piece both technically and melodically. Idk if I'll ever be able to learn this one, but it's such an amazing and beautiful song. Chopin is one of my favorite classical composers.

OMG, no comment. He is not from earth. It is crazy. How light and precise he is. And now think about Chopin. How sensitive man have to be to compose such a beautiful music (Chopin was Polish -not to mention ;) )

All I can suggest is splitting the bar into twelve gaps and fitting the notes in the right places (so 1, 4, 7, 10 for the 4; 1, 5, 9 for the 3). You could start by counting to twelve slowly, playing the notes as you go, then drop the counting and speed up...

To the people a month ago who were discussing how to play 4 against 3 (almost every bar of this piece, except for the middle section) ... forget the bit about dividing the bar into twelve beats, etc. Instead, play each bar according to the phrase "what a-tro-cious wea-ther" (play 'what' 'tro' and 'wea' in the left hand and 'what' 'a' 'cious' and 'ther' in the right hand.

Actually, Chopin(pronounced Sho-pon)wanted his friend to burn this piece. it sounded alot like something a famous composer wrote and he didnt want to be critisized for copying it. after Chopin died of tuberculosis, his friend decided to show the world the amazing piece rather than never let anyone hear it.

@wings0r I wasn't exactly forced either, I wanted to play violin when I was young, but then we couldn't find any violin teachers, so I took up piano. Later, I started playing violin, but I still like piano much better.

i was talking about technique. the middle part is hard to play and express musically, but the over all challenge is to play the begining and end with the haste feeling, while retaing a musical flow and sing. but sure, slow parts are hard to express musically.

@wings0r completely agree, and I think that parents force their child to play a musical instrument or another (like mathematics) are a small minority. and this practice must be worldwide. No need to be Asian to have crazy or archaic parents! PS : Excuse my English, I'm French (musician) :D - And peace!

yeah, i thought it'd take me months to finish the first few pages. but it only took a few weeks. the only problem i have personally are the cross-rhythms. and i noticed after a while, the fast part is seems automatic and just flows. the ending i think, is the hardest.
