I've been listening to La Campanella played by different pianists, through video and live concerts. 14 years and this low quality video is still by far the best La Campanella I've ever heard.
Lol fr this performance captures the elegance and grace perfectly There's a lang lang live performance version which I found pretty cool too, he does some tiny improv around the start with the chords and sounds fantastic ngl
4 mins of performance, 400 hours of practice.. Only people who played this piece knows how hard it acutely is. Yundi Li is amazing both on technical and expressiveness.
Owen Liu It's not the hardest piano piece. Check out the "Bumblebee" played by Yuja. She plays Cziffra's variation of the Rimsky-Korsakov composition and doubles the notes. You have to hear it to believe it.
Vette gaddia it's one of the hardest, not the hardest though. every song has their own difficulties, so what's the hardest song in the world? I think there is no set definition. :) However, all the songs you have listed are known to be very difficult pieces.
zheng wen All of Cziffra's transcriptions are incredibly difficult. And the Prokofiev 2nd concerto is insanely hard. Both Yuja and Yundi play it. Check it out. The 4 minute cadenza in the first movement has to be heard to be believe. And then there's Ravel's Scarbo.
This piece played by Yundi is truly masterpiece, every pitch and tone and melody can be heard loud and clear, there's variations, tempo is nice and also the expressions is there not like some pianist played like robot. No doubt he won the competition.
@@ArnaudSibille To complement his playing, Kissin often treats his audience, or at least the camera, to unnecessary bouts of live hair loss. Sorry lol, I left this intrusive comment out of boredom lol
I always find it funny to read comments criticizing the pianist's interpretation of a masterpiece and making comparisons between pianists. You guys are truly talented in showing off your ignorance.
Xia n You're right. Criticism of art is only for people of feeble mind. You and I are the only ones here intelligent enough to blindly defend the status quo while contributing no original ideas ourselves. We are the true intellectuals. /s
Watching this back 15 years later and this video was the reason I started the piano and now I have been playing for that long and have a diploma. Still inspires me to this day
+Mehra Ahsan Lots and LOTS of repetition. I wouldn't be surprised if he sat there every day at the piano for 30 minutes or something just moving those two fingers back and forth for months.
The best performance out there! Clean, emotive, excellent and clear voicings, and efficient but still exciting playing while not being overstated. This is mastery!
After listening to Kissin's, Seong-jin Cho's, Lang Lang's, and this, I think Yundi's is the best. The last climax is so powerful, clear, and passionate that it's incomparable.
this piece is so amazing that i actually spend a lot of time searching for different versions on youtube just to cover all the options so that i don't miss out a great performance of this piece. and yet this is the best version youtube has to offer
My absolute most favorite piano video on here... I can't say how many times I've re-watched this; and I can't say how much I love the way Li Yundi plays this.
This piece literally makes me cry, not because it's sad or anything but because the sheer skill needed to play it so well is just absolutely mind blowing, so much so that it forces tears out of my face. Love it.
This may not be the fastest but the consistency and dynamic that Yundi showed here was insanely good. This is definitely my favourite version of La Campanella
there really isn't much to criticize about this performance -- he nails not only every pitch rhythm and dynamic, but his timing, nuance, and style choice are perfect. I don't usually call a piece of art "perfect" as art can never be objectively "perfect", but it's done so darn well! :)
This is the most beautiful song and Yundi Li is hauntingly talented. It is simultaneously explosive and serene. I am so captivated by him playing this piece. I am learning a simpler version on the piano but I am inspired to get to his level someday. May God Bless you Yundi Li. Thank you.
He was just more than comfortable in playing one of the hardest pieces ever just perfectly 😂. The kind and amount of practice he could have done is just commendable
Yundi Li is the absolute BEST player of Chopin!! It’s his touch. Some players attack, making the sound harsh. He is firm but light at the same time. This takes hours and hours, and hours of practice!! Did you notice his hands?
Here's the perfect point of it all! The beauty and depth of this execution is impressive! Yundi was exact! For me at this level is Scherzo No. 2 Op. 31-14th International Chopin Competition.
I've been playing piano for ten years, and it makes me cringe watching him play those. I have SUCH a hard time with 4-5 trills. Just seeing him play them so quick makes my hand sore.
I have yet to hear someone play this without errors. That being said, I think Yundi Li does a fantastic job of being technically sound at the piece as well as putting emotion into it.
I like Kissin for certain things, and I like Yundi Li for others. I really like Kissin for Rachmaninoff's concertos, for example, whereas I like Yundi Li for ballads and pieces that are less aggressive and more flowing.
Axel Bak I think he means that your statement that Yundi Li's interpretation is how Liszt wanted it to be played is a bold statement. He was being sarcastic saying that you probably were best buds with Liszt (which is funny because he's been dead for more than 100 years), and that's why you must know how Liszt wanted this to be played.
calmario117 Even though he said it to somebody with the surname Bak? You should probably be more careful not to embarrass yourself with outbursts like that...
It has been so many years, still I'm looking for this video of Yundi Li. Thank you David for sharing this. Reminds me of so many memories I want to look back at from time to time. :)
My mouth gaped open while listening to this. Oh how beautiful his hands are and the look on his eyes while playing. He's enjoying every piece. Amazing. He's a genius.
