Almost a perfect tyre. Just needs dual compound construction to create a harder spine. Having used the TKC70 Rocks tyre, Kyle's review on this tyre is spot on. He is the foremost authority on ADV tyres.
TKC 70 rocks for 2,000 miles on my Africa Twin. Literally just put the Dunlop Trail max on the front a couple of weeks ago. Makes me feel like I made the right choice if Kyle Bradshaw recommends the pairing!
Kyle: You are psychic, I was one of the guys that you recommend the TKC 70 Rocks combo for my GSA 1250. I have just hit the 5000 mile mark and and my ware on the rear is very similar to the tire you featured in this video. My riding combo on and off road was also very similar. I just started to think about when to replace my tires, my front tire isn't showing a lot of ware BTW. I had pretty much decided that I would try to get another 1000 miles or so out of the tires (was thinking I'd get a new set after the ride to the Giant Loop Festival and back, or maybe even get a new set before the ride home here to Los Angeles. I can't tell you how much the tire videos you do have helped me and I'm sure 1000's of others in our Adventure world. You gave me confidence in the decision to go with these tires and your continuing follow-up is invaluable to all of us....Thank You....@stanforadventure
Awesome! Happy to be of service. I suggest replacing your tires BEFORE your trip. I'd always want the best traction possible for the "adventure" as you never know what will pop up. That being said... I'd run a nearly bald cord showing on my commute ... not so safe, but it's like a sportbike tire right?!!!
@@manybikesI changed Just the stock rear Pirelli and the wobble started, a week later I hoped to solve the problem by changing the front, but the bike still wobbles going past 170-180kmh. Even worse on a wheelie... Passing 140kmh the bike wobbles quite badly. Probably will try the anakee Adventure on the back and leave the mission up front. Still off and onroad performances are great! Peg scraping with no issue and even got my knee down Just for fun. Off-road they are much Better than pirrelis in my opinioni. But no fast street riding
Good review as always! Makes me think I'm retaining and learning some things. About two weeks ago I started thinking of a Motoz rear and Mission front. I got four thousand on the Karoo. Waiting to totally wear them out,and go to give you an order!
Great review... after dumping the stock vstrom 800 dunloo mixtours, i got a set of dunlop raid and got 4,500 miles. Excellent tire but very noisy especially the rear. Also the front cups fast if you break hard on the tarmac. I am now trying a set of e07+ dakar tires (already over 1000 miles) and ao far I am very pleased. They are not noisy in comparison to the Raids but took longer to break in. Without proper break in, they don't inspire confidence. I may try tkc 70 rocks next...
Had the TKC70 rocks and Trailmax mission combo on the Africa twin, they lasted around 6500 miles with mostly pavement and fire roads. Have them on the KTM 890 adv R and smoked the rear at 3500 miles mostly offroad, front trailmax should last another 3000+ miles. This combo works well for me everywhere but deep sand, sticky mud and grass. Thanks again Kyle for the great tire tests.
Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment. I also like the fact they don't "look like" street tires, but have a hint of dirt ability in the look. I liked them a lot.
Excellent review Kyle. It's not common to see a review where the rider truky wore the tire out! I have a TMM on thw front of my 790 Adventure R, and it's not failed me in rocks, dirt, mud, and even MOAB sand! - Frank
I like the TMM front a lot. The rear, I've taken it places it shouldn't have gone. It was a struggle... but did it. This Rocks is a much better pairing for the TMM front.
Just my two cents, Two years ago, I paired the TK70 Rocks with a TKC 70 on my 16 1190s. Ran the combo for 1500 miles tell the front slipped on gravel on a chip sealed road at an intersection while turning with my wife on back. Didn’t dump the bike but scared the hell out of both of us. Got home, pealed both tires of and replaced both with TKC80’s. Fast forward tell a week ago, headed to Flagstaff following a CBR1000RRR of my buddies, I needed a better road tire than TKC80’s for the 1600 mile road trip. Figured why not burn up the 70 Rocks with 70 front. As you can guess, We rode fast and hard through twisties and two lane. After I got home, I noticed the front had very uneven wear and the 70 rocks had good even wear. First time I’ve ever had the chicken strips wore down as much as the center. I’m proud of the 1190 on how she TRIED to hang with a sport bike.
Yeah, that Rocks rear can allow the 1190 to hang with the best of them. I am NOT a fan at all of the 70 front tire. I think it's a horrible tire choice. It's not a street tire and not an offroad tire ;) Thanks for sharing your stories. Much appreciated!
Went to buy Battlax Ax41 and the shop owner asked me about my riding style, as I told him that I mostly ride on highways, wet roads and rarely some off-road trails, then he recommended to go with tck70.. just got it on my V-Strom 800de today.
The Mission and the Rocks are similar... but the Rocks is WAY softer and will wear out in 1/2 the time. The Rocks is lighter and gives more feedback from the road.
Had the TKC 70 Rocks on my Tiger 900, twice. Neither got me further than about 4500 miles / 7000 km. Riding another 80% on sealed roads. Great tire, but disappointed with the short life. Motoz GPS gave much better mileage but not as nice to ride. Currently have Mitas E07+ which seems to offer a happy mid point - nice ride and reasonable mileage.
Thanks for all the information and testing! Awesome content What would be a better pairing for a VStrom 800 DE using the Mission front, the TKC 70 rocks or the Dunlop Raids. They both look to have a shallow tread depth. I would love to see either of these with the tread depth of the tractionator Adventures.
I have had good luck with these tires as well. There are lots of good brands, all are near same price point. There are only a few things for absolute certain.. there are no good cheap tires..
Thanks first of all for your detailed reviews, good job! It's time for me to change the OEM tires of my Africa Twin 2023 Standard. I usually go quite hard on the twisties, but now I want to unblock the other half of the maps, and go offroad...I'd love to have some tires that give me confidence to improve. Could you please give me your advice? Best regards from Spain
These are more aggressive than the AT41 but still handle Sportbike like in the twisties. If you want to try the AT41, I've got a set I can give you a deal on...
In my experience (dunlop mission/tkc70 rocks combo on a Tuareg660) the performance is great both onroad an offroad, except for highspeed since the bike starts to wobble quite a bit (never seen this on the stock pirelli str). The mileage for my use has been quite bad... I think I'm lucky if I will get 3k miles riding 80/20 but very hard on the streets
Interesting findings you are experiencing. I have zero wobble with these tires, nothing at all and my mileage (even on the 150 hp KTM) is way better than yours. I wonder why?
Really enjoyed this. I think it might be the right fit for my riding style on my Zero DSR/X. I'm concerned about the heavy weight of the Trailmax Mission. Do you find it problematic? Is there another similar but lighter front tire you would recommend to pair with 70 Rocks rear? Also, the profile of this tire looks a bit square. I had been looking at the Tusk 2 Track which has a bit more rounded profile for the twisties.
Right on! If you are worried about weight, the Tusk 2 Track is one of the heaviest out there. I'd recommend the Tusk Waypoint though, it's light and flexible. I'd pair a TKC80 with it too.
Hi mate. I need this and your review is best I’ve seen to date. I’ve a Tiger 900 Rally Pro and looking for the right 60-40 combo. TKC70 Rocks and TrailMax Mission you think? Thanks for the advice (and anyone else who wants to jump on)
Sold the T7 which had a Motoz Adventure rear and DV front. I now have a 2023 390 Adventure SW and cannot figure out what tire combo I want. I truly am 50/50 and some days long country rides with no off road. I'm on the East Coast of NC so off road is hard pack and sand mostly, some mud. Maybe your suggestion of Rocks and TMM. Again, many times over, thank you for your reviews.
The TKC 70 Rocks is not the best for sand but it will do it... Check out this video with my 390 Duke battling a 390 Adventure ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-DyUQlBPJNZQ.html The Duke is running the Rocks and the Adv is on the Standard TKC70 I think the Motoz Dual Venture or Bridgestone AX41 or Mission up front and the Motoz Adventure in the rear would be a great combo for you.
Thanks for the informative videos. Would you match the TKC70 Rocks rear with a Motoz dualventure front on a F800GSA? Doing 50/50 asphalt and gravel/chip seal dirt roads. Any issues running a 140/80-17 vs the standard 150/70-17 rear? Mainly due to lack of stock in my area.
Thanks for reaching out. Yes, you can run the Dual Venture with the TKC 70 Rocks. That is very similar to running a TKC80 up front, which I did for quite some time. Your F800GSA really needs the stability of the 150. The 140 can be mounted, but it will make the tread pattern very flat, it will turn like a truck and ... it being a stretched narrow tire, I have seen them wear very very quickly.
Thanks Kyle. I have a request. Perhaps you can do a front tire comparison video. I’m wanting a Motoz GPS rear for my Transalp but am torn between GPS front and Dual Venture. There is also TM Mission , Raid and AX41 and these TXC 70. I’m in Florida so off road is sand and deeper sand. Most of My off road riding would be graded fire roads with the occasional deeper stuff. Riding will be mostly on road and will require good wet weather traction. Not too many videos concentrate on front tire char ecstatics. I find myself wishing that Motoz would Make a front tire between the GPS and the Dual Venture. Any suggestions for alternatives?
I totally hear you! I'll add this to my list. The Mission sounds like a good "minimal" step above the GPS but is still way less aggressive than the other knobby tires. I'd recommend the AX41 for your request / riding area.
TKC 70 rocks or Motoz GPS for a 1250 GSA? I love off road riding, but the truth is, no more than 35% of my trips are off road.....the rest is highway Thanks!
I like both... the 70 Rocks is ligher and more sport feeling than the GPS. The GPS has deeper lugs and is better in deep thick mud, but ONLY if aired down a lot. I would do the TKC 70 Rocks if I were you. BUT... you will change them 3x in the mileage the GPS will provide.
Hi Kyle, how does the rear wear compare to the rally str? Considering rally str, trailmax mission, or the tkc 70 rocks/mission combo. I don't mind the quicker wear if the performance, especially in twisties, is better. The rally strs seem a little too soft. Ride a Multistrada v4s, and dont want to give up to much pavement performance, but i need a little bit more off road grip for moto camping/forest service roads.
Hey Kyle. Awesome videos. Keep em coming. I have recently acquired a 2012 Tiger 800 (sold my Scrambler 1200 while I ride this bike saving up for a 2024 Tiger 900 GT Pro or Rally Pro. I am thinking of using my 150/70R 17 TKC70 Rocks rear with a 110/80R 19 TKC70 front tire. No serious off road. Just dirt and gravel roads. I could instead use the 70 Rocks rear with a Shinko 705 front tire but I think it's better to pair the rock rear with the regular tkc70 front. Any idea if the TKC 70 uneven wear issues persist? Was that really only a serious issue with a particular batch or during a certain period?
@@manybikes well this bike actually came with Shinko 705 front and rear, with the rear being worn but not worn out, so one of my potential plans is to ride the bike like this for another month or so and then swap the 705 rear for my barely worn 70 rocks before I hit the gravel and dirt roads.
@@manybikes do you think running the TKC 70 Rocks in the rear paired with the Shinko 705 19" front is more useful than just replacing the rear with a fresher Shinko 705?
@@stephanematis Good morning! I ran the 70 Rocks 150/70-17 in the rear and a TKC 80 120/70-17 in the front. Check this out: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-87TREMaOCHA.html
Hi Kyle, a question. What would you recommend 1250 gs, rear tire motoz gps. Looking for a frt more aggressive off rd that dose not cup to bad and last as long as the gps rear? Thanks Herb
The Dual Venture. I have been getting 10k to 12k out of them. As soon as I see trailing edge wear, I flip them! In 500 miles they are like NEW tires. Great tires.
@@Pebbzor yeah... manufacturers hate it when I do that... BUT sometimes it works better than anything they have to offer. Some combos don't make sense... but some are game changing.
@@Pebbzor I have been mixing "like tires in performance" for years and years and years. I would not mix knobbies with sport bike tires or bias with radial... but tires in a certain genere or use... I totally am comfortable mixing!
@@manybikesI will need to consider TKC 70 rocks at the rear and Dunlop Trailmax Mission on the front… Another combo I saw was to have the TKC 80 up front. Not sure about street performance though, but from what I’ve heard it should be fine. I like to ride “spiritedly” on back roads but since I changed to the Tiger 900 rally (coming from a Versys 1000) I notice I rarely go super fast, or go more at legal speeds. Probably a good thing.
@@Pebbzor They are the #1 On the road knobbie that gives sport bike like feedback. These 70Rocks are similar on the street, but are not as aggressive off road. So Yes... AX41 still the King.
@@Pebbzor Ive ridden the A41 on an Africa Twin and an R1250 GSA. Great road tires... but I have been down off road on them! Here is my A41 video... ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ATXGsdX0_ZE.html
