Third in the Fantasy Castle Cards series of 4 videos, this one is focused on scrying. You may wonder what scrying means - well it is the activity of seeing, one might almost say divining through the act of gazing into something - in this case the wax colours. The scry backgrounds offer a basis for the imagination to develop imagery that enlivens the whole into a cohesive image. Great for fantasy scenes!

Beautiful cards, every one of them. The second one, (especially in the beginning) reminded me so much of the 'Droomvlucht' (meaning flight of dreams) It is part of a Dutch theme park and when you go on the ride, inside one of the chambers, there are floating castles and planets with villages/castles on top of them. That is what your card reminded me of. Beautiful.

... I think that is at the Efteling isn't it? We went there when our kids were young (early nineties!!). Glad that you enjoyed this anyway - thanks for the feedback.

wha i cannot create thiese light strokes..to make such a empty spaces ??? do i need more wax ? hoter iron ? have wrong paper ? using paper for color copy.... :(
@artsencaustic

+MixMax You need a non-absorbent card - otherwise the wax is absorbed into the surface of the paper and can no longer be moved about or changed. Encaustic Art Painting card is what was used on the video. Any good slick non-absorbing card (you can get back to white after colour has been applied by using the iron to scrape off is the way to test it. It should still be white card underneath afterwards - not coloured or stained by the wax that was there.

Hi, awesome work! Really! I'm inspired now :3 I would like to know on what kind of paper do you using. Is it matte or glossy paper. And also is it thick or thin.
@artsencaustic
@artsencaustic 9 лет назад
Kana, it is on 300gms non-absorbent card stock. If you do a web search for [ encaustic art painting card ] you will find it.

ok, but is it any kind of glossy or matte paper, because I'm from Poland and I have to find replacement for this paper.

Kana PL ... basically any glossy / non-absorbent paper will not get dirtied by the wax being applied - it stays on the surface of that type of card and this means it is easily reworkable. But any absorbent paper / card will become 'dirtied' by the wax when it is applied - the wax will penetrate the surface with it's colour. This means that alteration is not possible although application of other colour on top is potentially OK - each surface will offer it's own variation of particular absorbency. example of glass as totally non-absorbent and of a bathroom towel as being very absorbent - hope this is clear - any surface is OK but all surfaces will offer their own characteristics. Non-absorbent surfaces on flexible material (like the card) are easiest to begin working with just because it is easy to rework and change the wax results.

Stunning. What is the tool you use for designing the castles?
@artsencaustic
@artsencaustic 8 лет назад
+Cathy Speerly It is a scribing tool Cathy. Basically a metal rod with one end having a clean unsharpened point and the other end having a bladed form for scraping wider strokes of wax away.
