I never understood why Tattoo had to run all the way to say " the plane". The people on the ground should have yelled back "we hear it coming. STFU".

If it weren't for "Game of Thrones", then Peter Dinkledge would probably have had the majority of his career be made up of playing 'Magical Little People', in the same way that Warrick Davis (Wicket the Ewok, Willow) has for the majority of his roles. Because of GoT, people got to see how great an actual actor he was. This could have been the opportunity to give another Little Person the chance to play a role that is Iconically identified with a 'Midget', and, since they were taking it seriously, the chance to play a character with depth beyond 'little sidekick to Rourke'.

By that logic, it doesn't make any sense as to why she would be rejected just based on her looks. The actress you hired to play this "character" is too damn pretty, and I find it extremely hard to believe that she couldn't get more than one date. And if the filmmakers did intend on writing that line, then she's miscast, especially if you want to hire an actress who looks shy, isn't able to open up to someone and not hiring someone from 'Pretty Little Liars'.

Honestly the spoilers just made me more confused.

I honestly think Antonio Banderas would've been a natural fit for the role. Yeah he's not Mexican, but he's worked with Ricardo Montalban in the Spy Kids films and having him be his successor would've come full circle.

Actually, the original Fantasy Island show did have "dark" episodes, as well as "goofy" ones. Also, in later shows, probably after Tattoo was replaced, the bell was rung electronically (from the ground level).

Fantasy Island should have been a 4 part Netflix Original series that worked Twilight Zone style with a smooth sexy Mexican and a mysterious little person that gives the whole show an air of mystery and secrets. As a kid who watched the show on reruns on Nick at Night or whatever, I am glad I got to see this review instead of wasting my money.

Sorry but my opinion here. And not seeing it yet. At first, when I saw the trailer, I thought Michael Pena was to be Tatto. And Parisa Fitz-Henley Rourke. Like a twist in the ending. Also, you aren't the first reviewers to say that the movie did Pena wrong. And Rourke being Maggie Q or Lucy Hale would like to see that.

The best part of Fantasy Island was when the plane landed and Roarke explained what’s each fantasy was. It totally set the mood for the entire episode.

If you think about it, the concept of Fantasy Island has so much potential, it practically writes itself... But apparently not if it falls into the hands of Blumhouse. It could have been like a movie-length Black Mirror, dark thriller. It could have been a comedy. Instead we got this. Oof.

Michael Pena is NOT handsome he is average looking at best.

This movie could have been great as a survival/horror movie. The set up was there: You have these people who want to relax and get away from their problems. They see this advertisement for a new resort off the cost somewhere named Fantasy Island resort --> "Where all your dreams come true." The People see this and decide to check it out. But then once they get settled on the island, Shit goes wrong. The movie pulls a Get Out on us and its revealed that the resort used to be operated and owned by rich, powerful families who used minority workers to run it, such as the midget man. The midget man had actually worked at the resort all the way back in the 20's, 30's and 40's and was a fairly sweet guy who loved the job and wanted the families to like him. But, being rich, stupid people, the families abused and berated him so much that it actually drove him insane. one day, the midget snaps and kills a abusive son of one the families and enturn, kills himself by jumping off a cliff to avoid getting arrested. The Resort shuts down due to the incident, leaving fantasy island to rot away. Cut to years later, its reveled that the midget actually survived and has been rebuilding the resort, using a family member of one of the families as a puppet to help him do his work. is has been luring the decedents/inheritors of the rich powerful families in the hopes of getting revenge on them.

I had no idea that Fantasy Island was a remake of an old tv show. I just assumed it was its own thing and enjoyed it. I went in assuming it would be a straight forward theme of everyone’s fantasy turning into a nightmare. Then all the fantasies suddenly started crossing over, the villains suddenly became immortal, and everything went in a whole different direction. It had my attention at that point. It was weird, but I liked it.

I was not as disappointed as I thought I would be with this film. As also pointed out, it actually had some of the flavor of the original show - for better or worse. I don't think a comedy would have worked as well as it might seem. Their approach COULD have been the right track. While not being quite a comedy, the movie tries to twist the concept in unexpected ways. This approach could have worked. Here's the problem, in my opinion: They tried too hard to give it clever & "Shocking" twists, instead of developing the individual stories a bit better. In fact, a lot of the Island mechanics twists served to undermine the characters. They made the attempt at a bow-tied happy ending fall flat on its face. If Mr. R. is just a hapless victim of the Island, and is as flawed & invirtuous as has been implied, how can the audience have any confidence in a sequel - as teased in the end? It's like a story about the Amityville house, where most of the main characters survive, they have a better understanding of why the house is haunted, so they decide to make the house a bed and breakfast, because it might be entertaining for guests. Fantasy Island is deadly & potentially fatal, but they want to keep it running & they try to induce warm fuzzies in an audience that has just witnessed the Island kill people. Some of the terrorists were after Mr. R., I think. That means they weren't part of the zombie team. More could pop up at any moment. Speaking of the zombies, they could pop up at any moment, too. I didn't mind the movie, but I think they made some bad decisions. It might have been better, if they had kept it simple. They could have the stories end up tying together, but it should have been coincidental. Skip the dark magic origin story OR skip the happy ending. They could revisit it in a J-Park II style sequel, if they wanted. On the bright side, all the foreshadowing DID successfully create a bit of unease.

Nothing sadder than a movie that could be great, but wasn't.

Maggie Q is why I went so I was not dissappointed. It's not a good movie but not the worst thing I've seen. My favorite thing is to think of this as being in the same universe as Like a Boss because of Ryan Hansen and Jimmy Yang being paired up again.

They should reboot this next year and have everyone's fantasy be to wear DT Merch head to toe.

i actually love this film. not every toasties cup of tea but it is actually scary, fun, hilariously intentiaonal and unintentiaonally funny, terrifically shot and smartly written and faithful. To me this and truth or dare raves!
