A couple of weeks ago, I made the video: Fantasy Worldbuilding - Mountains and Monsters.
• Fantasy Worldbuilding ...
Here is a follow-up video where I talk about worldbuilding tricks and tips about forests, while drawing trees and woodland landscapes.
For those who are new to the channel and wondering what Eastern Farraway is:
It is a fantasy campaign world that I’ve created together with my players during the last 25 years or so. It’s heavily Norse-inspired and this is also the world where all of Midnight Tower’s books are set.
If you’ve any tips about worldbuilding, or want to share a little bit about your worldbuilding process or fantasy map tips, feel free to leave a comment below. (I read all of them and try to answer any questions.)
Thanks for watching, and remember: Always stay creative!

Thank you so much! I’m a beginner and new to this, so kind comment like yours, are very appreciated! 🥰 I’ve done digital art for our RPG books for a couple of years, but working with ink and watercolour is completely different. (I still wish there was a CTRL + Z button sometimes, lol.)

Tremendous video! I love this sort of content. It feels like art, folklore, and TTRPGs all rolled into one.

Thank you, Todd, your comment made my day! I like making these type of videos, and I thought I might as well share my thoughts about worldbuilding and Eastern Farraway while I’m trying to improve my mapmaking skills. 😺

So lovely to see your process but also hear what you’re thinking about as you do it. I’m doing world building for the first time right now and have been perseverating on making different versions of the same map over and over as I begin to write the details. Putting shapes on paper has been really helpful as it pushes me to explain what is there and why. I’ve been struggling, though, because there is definitely a dark underground cave system that will show itself over time but I don’t know quite yet how to represent that visually. Thank you for sharing!

Thanks Kit! ❤️ I happy to hear that you liked my video, and oh-my-gosh! I can totally relate to what you mean: Drawing maps changed my entire fantasy world! When you start adding towns, mountains, and rivers to paper, it kickstarts your imagination - but also prompts a row of questions: 1.) How to people live in environment like this? 2.) Are they completely self-sustaining or do they trade with others? 3.) And if so, what do the trading roads look like? 4.) And do they pay taxes, or tolls? 5.) And will some people try to avoid that and turn into… smugglers? (And so on, for all eternality, lol.) It sounds super-exciting with a dark underground cave system! Maybe you could do some sort of overlaying maps? That would be so cool! 😺
