Your videos should be used at Disney as an attraction. Superb job. Bonus points to whoever shot the entire 20,000 leagues ride through that little porthole. Priceless footage of a lost wonder.
I had my very first panic attack at the age of eight on 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea. When we discovered the lost city of Atlantis I was completely terrified. I remember pushing people to get out of that submarine! I had nightmares about it for years.
The main differences I noticed between the sub rides in CA and FLA, besides the subs themselves and narrators: Disneyland's Submarine Lagoon was more colorful and spectacular to look at from the Skyway/Monorail/Peoplemover, the human divers were getting treasure from a sunken galleon (in FLA they harvested sea plants and protected creatures), there was no Aurora Borealis in CA (just Polar Ice Caps), the sequence of events in the indoor part was different, and the mermaids had their own scene.
that's not a reference to 20,000 Leagues, that is a reference to the original Subs from Disneyland, its the same ride infrastructure just dressed up. It's completely unrelated to 20000 leagues.
Oh how I miss the skyway. Luckily we still have one here at six flags great adventure (from the 1964-65 Ny worlds fair) in NJ. As a kid I really didn't care for 20,000 leagues I thought it was so boring. It was one of my dads favorites and we have it on vhs that he recorded. He was a navy man I think it just super appealed to him. :) I do wish it was still there though I could appreciate it as an adult I'm sure.
I think adults appreciate WOW as much as children do - maybe even more. I think riding the new gondolas that they are creating between resorts and parks in WOW will be a big attraction - just like riding the Monorail is for many people.
I felt the same way when the Submarine Voyage was closed at Disneyland and similarly sat there abandoned for years. Kids would think it was still a ride, only to be disappointed. I was mad when Disneyland's Skyway closed, too. Admission kept going up while rides were closed and the space wasted. ........ I've thought that at least one of the 20k subs could've been used at Epcot's Living Seas in some way.
I can definitely see a few similarities between 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea in Disney World and the Finding Nemo Submarine ride in Disneyland, so I guess in a way the current submarine ride makes references to the old. Especially near the end of the Finding Nemo Submarine ride if you look closely, there is a sea monster made out of coral. It makes me happy that there are at least a few references to the original. :)
omg that was sad to see the end of 20,000 leagues under the sea. So mad how Disney handled that. To not even save a few of the subs for museum purposes!!!
