FAQ # 65 Channel Termination

Giving a quck and dirty take on why the Hickok45 channel was terminated twice in one week, first on January 6th and then again on the night of January 7th. We can never be 100% certain that this is all there is to it, but for now we'll suppress our paranoia. We're pretty certain it was just the Google PLUS issue, which we have now "removed" as a possible issue in the future.

While I truly appreciate all of the opportunities that RU-vid has given me free of charge, this is an example of how in the dark RU-vid keeps ALL content creators that frustrates us daily. Here's a guy with 1.8 million subscribers who can't even get ahold of an actual person at RU-vid who will directly tell him what is wrong and how to fix it.

As you know Cam, it's been like that for some time. As you also know, the alternatives don't give you the exposure. They have a monopoly and they know it. All users are viewers. Few are posters. If we could move the viewers, that would be great. G+ tried that. They wanted the Facebook users. They failed as they tried to force us to use what we already had. It was too late. I suspect RU-vid will outrank all other video sharing platforms for a long time due to the same reason. For now, we are stuck. Keep making great vids, mate. Whatever the future holds, if the time to migrate comes, I don't care which way my favourite YT channels go, I'll follow them all.

PistnRods I get that it's fun to think that everything is worse for us because we're gun channels, but this is absolutely one thing that stinks equally for all content providers until you're much, much bigger than Hickok45.

Probably some whining anti-gun people trolling around the internet looking for all gun/survival related channels doing anything they possibly can to get them shut down. I think if you get 3 strikes against your account it locks your account...doesn't take long when you have millions of anti-gun idiots out there trolling the internet.

+SwordBreaker925 ~ RU-vid can be considered an information utility site, which is protected by the 1st amendment (kind of like a newspaper.) Google didn't create youtube, they purchased it. Google+ is a social media site that google created. It has it's own rules of conduct just like facebook. The problem with google+ is that they forced youtube users to be a part g+ against the users will. Both g+ and facebook violate your 1st and 4th amendment rites on a regular basis. The way they get away with this is by having a user agreement plus a government that is afraid to uphold constitutional law. Plus the CIA uses that info to track and database people.

This opened my eyes. I had never subscribed to any channel till this happened and I realized the importance of supporting those you support. Thank you for what you guys do. Good common sense people that don't need to curse and yell all the time is deeply needed in this culture.

***** True. Given Googles size and financial power G+ is a huge failure. I was thinking more in terms of RU-vid. Kinda along the same lines... look at eBay they are very restrictive now vs say 12 years ago and Amazon must be hurting them bad these days. There's always someone who can knock off the leader after time.

Eddie Spaghetti You're wrong for a couple reasons. I said that it wasn't going anywhere "any time soon." Do you think RU-vid may be going out of business any time SOON? That seems absurd. Do you have any facts or figures to back it up (that's rhetorical, google doesn't release anything important)? High profile youtubers make millions of dollars a year and they get a 50/50 split of ad revenue for doing so well (less popular channels get a smaller percentage). These are the minority of views, so google is retaining more than 50% of general viewing ad revenue. So, youtube's general viewing is up 40% since 2014 and they track increased growth pretty much each month. To your point this isn't the same thing as profit. But, google isn't really known for making poor financial decisions. Yeah, man. Those guys are going under any second.

The 1rst Amendment protects you publicly to some extent. RU-vid/G+ is a publicly traded company, not a government entity.

+tsnorquist Technically, that's true. The First Amendment does, indeed, apply only to government. But I'm hearing that rejoinder so often these days that it's starting to sound a bit like the rationalization made to keep black folks away from certain lunch counters in the deep south 50 years ago. It may be a private diner. But it's also a public forum. Indeed, a place where real matters of importance to the public are discussed; often without foul language &/or malice (in this case, Second Amendment rights). Therefore, this "private business" trope is starting to wear a little thin.

Perhaps it's fine with you if they comb through all our personal e-mails & delete those that mention "guns?" Perhaps UPS & FedEx should refuse to deliver magazines about guns? They're also not government. At what point does a private entity respect the free flow of ideas among its customer base?

Could be, this site is the biggest &/or best. Therefore, according to you I guess, they can take sides on issues of great importance to the public & suppress those folks they disagree with. For or against same-sex marriage? For or against legalized cannabis &/or prostitution? You name it. Not only are you happy to see them suppress opposing points of view; but by your own rationale, FedEx &/or UPS can refuse to deliver parcels from venues with which they disagree. Therefore, if the president of UPS promotes same-sex marriage, he needn't deliver nor receive mail from the Family Research Council?

I enjoy your shows in Australia. We had our rifles and guns taken away from us after Martin Bryant went berserk in Port Arthur Tasmania. Your channel reminds me of all the fun we used to have with firearms. You can get a firearm here after a lot of bureaucracy. Your channel is starting to get me interested in going through the hassle. It is a sad state when you or any of us can't enjoy exercise our right, be they second amendment or free speech or any of our inalienable rights without fear of being shut down. Everyone that watches your channel knows, that the content you share is safe, educational, entertaining, and for me personally, reminds me of the America I grew up in, shooting with my Dad, my grandfather, my uncle and friends. It's nice to see that everything is back to "abnormal" with your videos and your style - which are par excellence Google+ or not. It was a little distressing to see you get zinged twice there, but you've handled it really well. And we're behind you 110% - you can be sure of that, now and in the future. Good to know Hickok. I love you videos. I'm not as avid a shooter as you, although I would be if I had the digs and resources you have. Although I have taken gun safety classes, and am ex military, you show many people out here the proper ways to handle firearms even though you may not realize it. You also show that it is a sport/hobby that can be and is enjoyed my millions.

I have learned a lot from this channel. Hickok 45 is one person that I would stand shoulder to shoulder with in any fight. Him and his crew are the type of people that don't act like they know everything and are willing to show people and allow them to make up their own minds about a "Toy". Thanks for shedding some more light on the already questionable Google+. I just deleted my Google+ account, now that I am allowed to do so without interfering with my other accounts. I recommend everyone go to their settings in Google+ and use the "Delete Account" option.

Google can tell you all that, fine a dandy. I just don't believe in coincidences and way too much was going on the week you were terminated. Just don't believe it. But, hey, what's important is you're back and its a deserving channel of high honors. Its family rated, fun to watch and supports our Constitution unlike so many others working and watching at google and youtube.

Glad you're back. A year or so ago I didn't realize how integrated Google+ was to RU-vid. I never used Google+ and decided to delete my profile and in doing so deleted my RU-vid channel. I fought long and hard to get the channel back but didn't win. I lost all my videos as well as a the revenue stream they had. RU-vid (Google) is great but support with them blows huge donkey balls. Anyways, Godspeed.

I didn't realize Google + was linked to RU-vid but if there taking a path against guns like the rest of our media , I want no part's of them . Keep up the great videos.

Even in the SF Bay Area I could go online during my breaks and browse the on-line firearms vendors (Midway, Natchez, etc.) up until about 2008. Since then our workplace "blocks" all such channels but still allows almost all other on-line commerce content (clothes, cars, etc) . It was also about that time that our Walmart stores stopped selling firearms altogether. It's a sad trend that continues today but I was hoping that the rest of the country was not feeling "the California hammer" like I am, but I guess since Google owns RU-vid, they can reach/affect all of you and your channels. That really sucks.

This is why I got rid of my Android phone and got a Windows phone. I don't like Google's policies with regard to firearms. They exercise their right to limit content, I exercise my right to spend my money elsewhere. Glad you're back up and running.

+Septic Limb it was flagged because of exceedingly frivolous requirements regarding posting material regarding items that are restricted or banned in other countries, i do agree that these videos are very informative and interesting even though i will probably never handle, let alone fire a gun in my life (i'm Australian) i watch these videos everytime they come out

+Timothy Driver Instead of just accepting the firearms ban I would suggest getting involved with others to get the ban repealed. Years ago I watched an Afghani village elder talking with US Army soldiers who where sweeping the village for Taliban. This village elder said something that has stuck with me ever since. In response to a question about working with the Taliban he said: "Whoever comes into the village with guns is who is in charge. Taliban, Americans, Afghani, it changes all the time.".

I think there was a numbness in your followers after the first termination. Then you were restored the next day. Then shock as you were again terminated. Of course there was a big reaction from your loyal fans. But I believe you were again expected back expeditiously. Thank goodness you were back promptly because if you hadn't been, as strong as the initial fan reaction was, there would have been such a hue and cry from your nearly 2 million strong fans that the media would have been far more strongly in evidence that it was! You and John are very liked and respected and you both furnish education to the gun world in a manner that is humble, informative and well......just plain fun to watch !!
