Hello 357MD! You know I always thought the pain was at the end where it comes out, the real pain is in the back just below the rib cage! Like a muscle cramp that doesn't go away! No joke! LOL Thanks N!
I have lucked out three times so far with kidney stones, that I know of. Passed one that was 4.09mm this summer and a couple in the 2mm range here in the last few months. Add lemon to your water is what my Doc said. He showed me his that was a little over 6mm, and that one put him in the hospital for a couple days. Mine was actually sent to the lab for testing and it turned out to be a normal 'midwestern' calcium stone. I've heard enough horror stories that I drink lots of water and real lemonade now. Another beautifully done Billings wrench by the way, he's sure to be a happy camper for a long time.

Bought a Billings Bicycle Wrench after watching your video. It was identical, except for a mystery hole below the knurl wheel. The "holed Billings" apparently a later version that peened the threaded portion so it could not be easily taken apart. After a tedious vise clamping/unclamping procedure, I got the threaded portion past the knurl wheel. I filed the peen marks out and now it works as smoothly as this earlier version. I risked damaging the knurls' interior thread, but it worked great. It would be nice to see Scoutcrafter take on one of the peened version. Would he drill or not through that hole. 😂
What a truly useful video. Your output is always outstanding but this step by step was extra useful as each step was plainly explained. The resulting wrench was beautiful.
Well Scout that was perhaps the best tutorial you ever did. Everything was explained so it was understandable to all the viewers. I know that the more experienced restorers would find it a little long but novices like myself loved it. Like I told you once before, you’re the teacher we are the students. Another excellent restoration! The instructional portion is an added bonus and I'm sure it'll help others who are just starting to restore things. I've been lucky to have never experienced a kidney stone but understand they're extremely painful so I'm glad you're on the mend. Another great restoration. Thanks for all the explanation because I'm one of your new viewers. One really cringes when you see a tool that's been hammered. A few months ago one of the home improvement shows on television had an electrician putting in an extra outlet and he was hammering nails on with the side of his lineman's pliers. Ouch. - Kathie

There is an old saying that says "Tools are meant to be used" and people took that as saying "Do whatever you have to just get the job done" some things are more accepted then others to me... However I don't turn wrenches for a living so I have the option to take an extra 5 minutes to get the right tool... People on the job usually are rushed for one reason or another... For people like us who love tools it's so hard to watch! LOL Thanks Kathie!!!!!!
Glad you're recovering Scout! I was looking for a Billings wrench recently during a visit to a South Carolina flea market and passed on one that I thought was defective. The hammer head face (if that's what it is) extended about a sixteenth of an inch longer than the fixed jaw face making it appear misaligned. I'm beginning to think they were designed liked this. Your tutorial helped educate me on what to look for in buying my first restoration project wrench. Thanks!
Helo Chris! Yes! The funny thing is depending on the price and shape... For $10 we will give it a shot, but for $40 I want a pristine wrench! Meanwhile I will put 5 hours labor into the $10 wrench! LOL Go figure! Thanks so much!!!!!!!!!

MAAAAAAN I've had small kidney stones on top of a UTI before. I have a pretty good idea how much of an ordeal that was. Sending up a prayer for a speedy recovery. On a brighter note, those Billings wrenches are SOOOO satisfying to restore.
Hello Allan! Oh man a UTI with a Stone is a whole different mess! I bet you were on a bunch of meds then! You are so right about the Billings wrenches, when they are done it's very satisfying!!!
Long story short, I was at a bad hospital that missed diagnosing the UTI the first time. It was 2 weeks old then and it went for 2 more weeks. I ended up with nothing more than a basic antibiotic and mild pain meds. It took about a week before I could get up and walk around again.
@@drstrangefart OMG! They told me at the hospital that you don't play with infections during a KS attack! They took a urine sample right then and there! Glad your over that!!!!
That had to have been back in 2010. I went in and they took a sample and did imaging then said it was small kidney stones and sent me home. It kept getting worse so I went back two weeks later. The doctor I saw then said they found and documented bacteria on the first sample and didn't bother to mention it or prescribe antibiotics. I can't really articulate my thoughts on the subject without an abundance of profanities.

Glad that your kidney stone episode is over and you are on the mend. I been lucky so far. but I understand that stones are more painful than child birth. As usual, what I wonderful restoration, you are truly a good person and a fine craftsman.
I passed a stone 25+years ago, the size of 2 grains of sand, not kidding. I thought I was stabbed. Excruciating pain from my bladder on out, pretty good bruising. I am sorry to hear of your suffering.

Ugh, kidney stones are no joke. I had my gall bladder go bad on me, had a golf ball sized gall stone! Get well soon. Great video as always. I enjoyed the different brushes and buffing wheels you showed. You really have to get different wheels to try. I like those bike wrenches! I have the Harbor Freight 1X30 sander. It works good, smoked a bearing but other than that it's my workhorse. Keep the video's coming!

Beautiful restoration of that Billings wrench!! We even got to see the Dake prove its worth again!! Great instructional video also. I hope your doing well after your kidney stone episode. I know how painful they are!! I had one a few years back and wound up in the hospital also. When it started to pass on it's own, it was so painful I just wanted to die. I never want to experience that again. Since you're a vegetarian, you need to watch out for foods that are high in oxalic acid (if that's the type of stone you had). Lots of water and try to add some lemon juice to the water. Not too much or it'll wear away the enamel on your teeth over time. It's always something that'll get ya!! Take care and be well. I am glad your OK!! My friend, I did that kidney stone thing about ten years ago. My only ambulance ride, ever. I never had pain like that! I'm betting you thought the pain would pass. Hi Bill! I was in so much pain a trip to the hospital was out of the question! So for 14 hours I just bit the leather! LOL Then after some ibuprofen I was able to stand and go to the hospital. I'm glad I did because they measured it and saw I was passible! Thanks so much Bill!!!!!!
@@ScoutCrafter I live with pain every day, no meds and I've never experienced anything like those damned kidney stones. They literally dropped me to the floor. If there is a next time for you, and I hope there isn't, EMTs carry a med that begins to dissolve the stones pretty quickly. Dont go through the pain , if you can help it. Take it easy and stay hydrated!

Hello Vaughn! Yes! I learned the hard way years ago being lazy I would take a greasy or dirty wrench to the wire wheel and it would work at first but the oil dirt and grease would wind up on and in the wheel and transfer to every other tool I did... It pays to always get any oil, grease or caked dirt off the tool before using the wire wheel. A degreaser work great! This Billings had hardly any oil or grease just dried rust, I just wiped it down with alcohol. In the long run it really pays off! Thanks Vaughn!!!!!

And thank you for posting a "newbie" instructional video. Explaining how to use the various bits of equipment and putting it in a standalone video makes it much easier to find amongst your hundreds of videos! BTW, you do use a saw blade to clean the compound off the buffing wheel, right? (I thought I saw that in one of your recent videos).
Hello NN! Yes, as long as you don't load up the wheel with too much compound you won't have a problem! Especially since we usually always use the same type compound. (Black) I hardly ever have to clean the wheel... Thanks NN!!!!!!!
