Hello, and welcome to Show Me Cables. Today we’re going to take a look at the difference between modular plugs.
Modular plugs are used in many different voice, data, and control signals and are available in a variety of styles.
The first plug we have is known as an RJ22.
This is the smallest of the modular plugs and is mostly used on handset cords. It is known as a 4P4C, which means that it has 4 positions and 4 contacts.
The RJ11 is slightly larger than the RJ22 and found on line cords, used for telephone wall plates and control signals. It is known as 6P4C, which means that it has 6 positions and 4 contacts.
The RJ12 is the same size as an RJ11 and is also found on many line cords and is commonly used for telephone and control applications. However, the RJ12 is a 6P6C, meaning that it has 6 positions and 6 contacts.
RJ12 connectors can be used in place of RJ11 applications, but RJ11 may or may not work in place of RJ12, depending on if the additional 2 contacts are needed.
RJ45 connectors are slightly larger than the RJ12s and are used for Ethernet and data applications. They are known as an 8P8C, which means that it has 8 positions and 8 contacts.

Thank you for solving my problem with building a power inverter remote panel extension cable. It uses an RJ12 6 wire. I am very grateful. Subscribed.

That's RJ14 in the video which is 6P4C, RJ11 is 6P2C.

what is the difference between a RJ9 and RJ10 and RJ22 4P4C? I am trying to create a ict220 cable for Point of Sales devices however the internet sources indicate that there is an RJ11 at one end and a RJ45 on the other. I believe that is this incorrect since I have a cable where one end is RJ45 but the other one is smaller than a phone Jack I can only assume that it is a RJ9 or RJ10 or RJ22 spending time in Trial and error is not an option since I don't have the jacks available. Can you please shed some light on what the smallest jack size is? thanks

Hey, I'm trying to hook up some 1999 ADT cameras to a more recent monitor. I know I'm going to need an adaptor for each camera, but I'm really bad with this whole figuring out what kind of adaptor I need. Would you guys be able to help a brotha out?

Go online and look for a 'BNC to HDMI' or 'BNC to VGA' depending on which one your monitor takes, that is likely what you're running right now but I am not certain.
