Q. Why did you take a special interest in hairloss?

Many people look at hair and they think of it as a vanity issue. Whereas really it's part and parcel of our culture and identity. And as you start to see that disrupted, particularly in the way, some of the hair disorders start to see people lose hair and sometimes unusual patterns, you can see a really significant burden. And I'd have patients who have told me that they wouldn't be able to go outside their houses, that they're just afraid of how the world sees them, how they see themselves, so... why I got interested in hair was I found it both interesting, but I also feel that as developments have occurred in other countries, there hasn't been as much of a translation into changes in practice in Ireland. And there was an opportunity for me to travel abroad and bring some of that knowledge back home for the benefit of patients in Ireland.
