Same boat! Finished it a week ago and instantly went to get Far Cry 4 only to see the similarities between the two games, but with a big lack of motivation. Needless to say, i have not touched Far Cry 4 ever since, i am intrigued about Pagan and whats to come, but i would have to beat myself up to play it again. But worst of all... Is Far Cry 5 worth it?! 8I big questions!

@@MaffiLu Far cry 5 is definitely not worth it. It was a really boring experience and i hated every seconds wasted on this game...Most of the time, you will find yourself killing people while on drugs, wandering around doing the same things over and over again. I agree with everything here but your comments on Pagan Min. He was a fantastic villain because he was an anchor to the one thing that gave Ajay the only personality he ever had; his mother. Pagan loved Ajay's mom, and truly wanted to help Ajay despite the actions of Ajay's father, but Ajay never listened. It's only when you don't kill him in the end that you find out just how much he cared about his love and by extension, you. He was broken and driven mad by the death of his daughter, and you are right that Ajay is flat and boring and if he was actually well written the game could've been 1000x better, but don't count Pagan Min out. He's no Vaas, but he's certainly better than Hoyt

Far Cry 3 is a timeless masterpiece. On its surface it’s another rescue FPS. But once you start playing, you start going down the same rabbit hole Jason falls into. In the time I’ve played it, I’ve noticed there other important themes: Insanity, addiction, and manipulation. As it was portrayed in Alice in Wonderland, everything was mad, or irrational, even Alice. Both Jason and Alice deny those however and both begin to indulge in the fact they’re the only ones who are in control of their environment. Jason does this by capturing outposts, killing pirates, and taking drugs. Which leads to the theme of addiction. Far Cry 3 is self aware. Buck even says, “I’m not playing the bloody game, you are. I’m just a spectator.” Under the influence of drugs, killing, and rituals, he seemingly becomes stronger, and thus becomes addicted to his role as savior of the islands. Of course, he was also easy for Citra and the Rakyat to manipulate. Dennis tells Jason he is special because he was given the Tatau. Citra lures Jason into the promise of power and glory for exacting his revenge of Vaas, and killing Hoyt in the name of the Rakyat. By the end of it all, Jason has become the perfect killing machine, just as Citra and the Rakyat intended. Thus you are left with a choice; save your friends leave the island, and return to society, or stay with Citra and let the insanity of the islands consume you entirely. Vaas said to Jason that insanity was doing the exact same thing over and over expecting things to be different. This is exactly what Jason was doing when he decided to continue his killing spree. But by the end of it all, things were barely any different. These make Far Cry 3 in my opinion one of the greatest video games of all time.

I just want far cry 2 with far cry 5's polish. Far cry 2 was the last simulatory entry in the series, where it felt more like a survival fps. I loved the story and characters of Farcry 3. The evolution of Jason's character was perfectly done with his initial terror and distaste of having to do what he's doing to survive and his gradual change to embrace and enjoy it. I remember the exact moment I knew Jason had crossed some sort of moral event horizon on my first playthrough because his decent was perfectly scripted and acted as he became less hesitant with taking on missions and to the Weed fields where he finally screams out how much he's enjoying this and he's running through fields with a flamethrower, torching them and killing people in a giant firefight. It felt perfect as he's yelling how awesome it was as I was also enjoying that mission with the music pumping for 'Make it burn dem'. So Jason's start of darkness was also mine. I wasn't chasing after the plot anymore as I was at the start, that was just something to focus on as I did other things. I was tooled up and advanced enough with perks to make the outposts interesting to try and clear via stealth with just knives or gun heavy's down. Hunt animals because I needed more leathers to advance my hunting of outposts and people... I honestly felt like Jason progressed as a character up until the end when I was offered the choice and your choice dictates whether Jason had crossed a line in his evolution he couldn't ever go back from It was a perfect end. Farcry 3 was one of the best game's I've played.

Everybody i know and respect always hyping up on Far Cry 2 as the best entry in the series which make me really confused. I get it appeal but i think Far Cry 3 is the game make the series came on to it own. Far Cry 2 had alot of cool mechanic but the game is so repetitive company with almost none existence plot and character make the game extra tedious. If you want some thing more hardcore but with better context just play Stalker.
@DimeTree
@DimeTree 6 лет назад
I thought Far Cry 2 was an interesting amalgamation of the immersive survival aspects of Stalker, and the pop sensibilities of Far Cry 1. It's a unique experience worth checking out, but I don't think it's a masterpiece by any stretch of the imagination.
@disk9434
@disk9434 6 лет назад
@@DimeTree Exactly my point, I don't think any of the people claim Far Cry 2 was the best even beat Far Cry 2. I have try that game several time over and the most farthest i get is half way through the second map which is almost identical as the previous map and the guy on radio was like: "Have fun do all the same shit all over again". And that coming from the guy who still play point and click adventure game regularly. The ultra realism should support other mechanic instead make it a burdens: Why the weapons breakdown is a thing when guns is everywhere and brand new one always available once you pick up several diamond 2 hours in? Why you want to explore since nothing out there except more faction camp and the same mp5 wielder enemy with hilarious accent that being blow up by the dozen by you? Why you have to feel danger when travel outside since save house is everywhere and car is also everywhere too? Why i have the need to solve all the mission by other mean since the best and most spectacle solution is use RPG on men, vehicle, house since the shooting and the stealth one is not fun and the other is not even work? The only thing i like is the buddy system which get somewhat revive in Far Cry 5 and the more robust physics system, both also have alot of problem because none of the buddy you meet is interesting and the physics is hard fuck with the engine so much the game almost like AC:Unity at launch. Far Cry 3 is best definition of a sequel fine tune and streamline in design over it predecessor and wouldn't take it any other way.

I like Far Cry 2 and Far Cry 3 in both different ways and I don't think that one it's better than other ,FC 2 I like for try to begin an "simulator" with a reallistic approach ,and not just beacuse the weapon degradation mechanic, mechanic that is cool on concept but in gameplay perspective is't quite frustrating when you are shooting and your weapon simple jam ,but it's only happen to the player and never with the AI ,I like for be that atsmopher,the feeling of be weak and lost in a foreign country and the fact everything is falling to pieces.I really hate FC 2 the first time I played ,played some 30 min and hate it everything, the clunky controls ,broken stealth ai,bullet sponge enemies with hitscan aim that shoot you trough walls,repetitive missions and tasks and the worst in my opinion enemies that respawn instantly.One year later I give a second chance and with patience I could enjoy and finish the game. FC 3 fix the problems in FC 2 and transform in a more fun experience,really sacrifices some of the "simulator" mechacnis in exchange of gameplay wise and fun .

@@DimeTree I think this game was about escapism and perception of reality . Its pretty obvious Jason is an unreliable narrator ( 1st person , see the world through his eyes ) . Its about ( like you said ) a frat boy who for once in his life " exist " in the world ( hes not some random California dude-who-doesn't-what-the-fuck-to-do-on-this-earth anymore , Now he found a real purpose : Killing people ). Btw that makes him very reliable at the beginning of the game , him , like the player , escape reality into " the game ( The Alice's quotes are very much a blatant reflection of the player and jason's journey ) But in the end he was a tool , a personnified weapon and he realizes how bad he " sunk " into the fake world of rook island ( or he could slit his girlfriend throat and die thinking he was the " Warrior " lmao ) . Its a story about power fantasy and video games in general . I would love to talk more about this game but What i'll say is that it was a masterpiece who took on the colossal task to examine video games and why we escape to them , taking the risk to " be the cliche trope white saviour story " to actually examine these tropes ( Hi Mr Cameron , how does it feel to know that a game has a better story than the most grossing movie of all time ?? ) It was basically Far cry 2 turned upside down . One made you weak , The other powerful but in the end both examined the shooters

Idk if this is totally relevant, but I just realized this: Manhunt has a similar "gradually becoming a monster" theme, but it's based around the player's experience. Sure, you start out being pretty grossed out by the executions, but after a while it gets fun, and you start to actively have fun experimenting with all the weapons and their various animations.

I actually had a lot of fun with Far Cry 4, but I have to agree that in terms of themes and storytelling it missed its mark. Despite the fact the main character's background was his impetus in starting his journey, the game didn't really do much to develop him as a character. We get a very brief backstory of how Ajay was taken to the US by his mother, where he eventually served in the Army (which by the way, just seems like a convenient way of explaining how he's a complete natural in firefights). He comes (back) to Kyrat at his mother's request, and presumably seeking answers about his roots. But it just kind of stops there, and even at the end of the game, there's isn't really a satisfying conclusion to his character arc, at least none that I can remember. Pagan Min was honestly more of a main character than Ajay.
@realgamergirl4638

Ajay was developed well in 4. They just did a different approach to it. He's more a man of action and what decisions you choose also shows what the future of Kyrat will be.

If Far Cry 3 is Skyrim with guns, then Far Cry Primal is Skyrim without magic, quests and dragons.

excellent video. was just musing on some stuff related to this the other day. fc3 had some flaws but the themes explored in it lent your actions a weight and a depth that's just not there in fc4 and 5 that made it truly compelling. the gameplay isn't even much different from fc3 in its two successors, and as a result i'd typically rather go replay 3 with ziggymod or something instead of bother with the other two.

The story of Far Cry 3 was one of crossroads and change, not only for Jason Brody, not only for Ubisoft, but for gaming as a whole. It marked the transition from the almost-comical low-res shooters of the 2000s to the ultra-realistic "gritty and dreary" FPS games of today. In between this evolution stands Far Cry 3, on the frontier of a new age, torn between two worlds like Jason Brody in the throes of moral ambiguity. And it is this conflict, this turmoil in a new era when the trajectory of triple-A games like the Far Cry series was not yet decided, that allowed the creativity and ingenuity of its developers to flourish in this masterpiece that treads the line between story and gameplay unlike any other Far Cry since.

Gritty and realistic shooters became massively popular around when Call of Duty 4 came out in 2007, and died down in a big way when the 8th gen consoles came out. And I think Far Cry 3 was definitely closer to the wacky, colorful games that succeeded it.

How to play Farcry 4: When the "villain" tells you to wait, just wait for him. Upon his return, you complete the game. You did it! Now refund it. The villain is the lesser evil in the story, the rebels are just destroying the nation. One of the leaders wants to turn the entire nation into a drug farm.

So if Jason stays on the Island, that's basically like a manchild staying in fantasy land. If he returns home, then he will need a shit load of therapy. He definitely won't adjust to normal life. He admits to *liking* murder. It's best for him to die. Citra is a bit of a bitch, but her killing Jason is like putting a dog out of its misery. If Jason sacrifices his friends, he would probably do the same to his child.

For Far Cry 6 they should go back to the survival style gameplay of 2 as opposed to the Rambo shit we have. It would shake the game up too

A lot of people in this comment section probably have no idea what "Far Cry Instincts" is or was, as it was an OG Xbox game that was supposed to be a port of "Far Cry" but ended up being its own entity due to limitations of the system itself. Far Cry 3 is actually very reminiscent of both of these games. Honestly, I could likely make a youtube video explaining some of the parallels.

I think Far Cry 3's take on skills is the best out of any game. In-game Skills allow you to do cool shit that require real life skill to pull off (especially the gunslinger takedowns, that shit is hard af)
