Fishing Spot: Te Wae Wae Lagoon, Tuatapere, South Island, New Zealand
In this video we are fishing at a very remote lagoon off the beaten track in the far South of New Zealand.
This fishing spot features amazing scenery and beautiful views over southern Fiordland. An amazing place to go fishing.
We managed to catch a nice rainbow trout and also a flounder on a rapala lure, which was quite unexpected.
We also tried a bit of kayak fishing but the land based fishing actually turned out to be more productive on that day.

My grand parents used to live on the road that led to the Waiau mouth. I spent every school holidays where you were fishing. Watching this nearly made me cry, so cool. Thank you. Next time I am bnack in NZ I will go down and visit Tuatapere. Its been about 40 years. Thanks mate.

Where do you go for floundering in Tauranga? I got some from Onemana beach reserve but not with lure. Only speared at night

cheers, yeah it's not easy to catch flounder on a hook. But very rewarding when you finally get one. The problem with flounder is that they don't move around much and wait for their prey to come to them. The best time to target them is probably on an incoming tide when they slowly move up from channels onto shallow sandbanks. Then you have a good chance that they might swim past a bait and notice it.

Took me years to get one on a lure too! Could see them and they go for lures, but like you say hard to hook up

There are flounders and trouts in Rakaia lagoon as well. But a local tell me they local don't want the fish there be taken😂 after I post a sea-run trout I caught

Haha, well I have seen lots of locals fishing in the Rakaia lagoon. But no matter what you do, there will always be someone telling you not to do it. Especially on Facebook 😂

에 날씨가 좋은날 보통 찍으려하는데 도와주지않는 날도 많아요~ 아 오클랜드에서는 플란더 잡을 생각도 못했어요! 여름 밤에 Awhitu 에서 스피어로 아주 오래전에 몇마리 잡아본게 다인거같아요 루어로 잡는거 엄청 어렵더라구요! 남섬에서도 여러번해봤는디 잘안됐어요 아주남쪽에 인버카길 주변에서는 그나마 많더라구요 남편이 운좋게 몇번잡았어요😊

What sort of line do you use to cast those lightweight softbaits?

Hi, on my light weight spin setup, I usually use 6-8 pound braid and 8-10 pound leader. I found that if I go any lighter, I end up loosing too much gear.
