FARANG STEREOTYPES in THAILAND 2022 | Sex Tourists | Digital Nomads | Expat Tossers

Farangs, or foreigners, or aliens, have been stereotyped for many years and in many cases they are quite close to the truth! Everyone has their own idea of the classic steereotype foreign expat/tourist and this video is a look at how they have evolved over the years. Also there are farangs as stereotyped by Thais and tragic or unfortunate stereotypes as parodied by many. It's all done in the best possible taste. If you're easily offended or woke, then put that on hold for 12 minutes!

I like how you talk, how you express yourself, sounding neither pompous nor boring, staying tactful from start to finish (mentioning different points of view regarding the same subject), but also making subtle right-on-target remarks without insulting or… belittling anyone. RU-vid can be… too much at times, with guys exaggerating in order to… make noise around their channel. I much better prefer your “I share the content I enjoy producing without being too full of myself” approach, if that makes any sense (my English is a never-ending work in progress).

You always find Nice locations for your clips :-) One of the stereotypes you missed was the “Muay Thai Champion”. To be fair, you mainly see these in the south or on the islands but they can also be spotted in Bangkok. The island type you are running along the beach in the obligatory Muay Thai shorts shadow boxing as they go. But the city ones wear the Muay Thai t - shirts from markets that always seem to depict a fighter throwing a knee

Enjoyed your vlog as always, and take a lot of what you shared as tongue in cheek. It is too easy for all of us to judge, but then we should also be prepared to be judged. You can only hope everyone finds what they are looking for (farangs & Thais alike!) and don’t get hurt in the process. Thanks krub 🙏

Watch your videos in rainy Manchester UK,with my husband.When I watched this ,I just had to subscribe too.Your list of comments made me laugh.We first came to Thailand when my son was 11,my daughter was 6.She is now 27.On her first holiday,she was in the pool at the Hilton in Hua Hin and asked me why the pretty Thai lady in the pool,was stroking and kissing the head of the old man with no hair?She didn't shout it out thank goodness.It didn't put us off,we love Thailand and have come every year since our first holiday and own a condo here.My husband is still uneasy about going into BK on his own.There are so many other lovely places to spend your evening,it's easy to avoid the bars full of 50+ single/divorced foreign men.They are such a tiny part of Thailand.I often wonder if the ex wives/partners,of these You Tube vloggers,who film themselves living the dream,watch the antics of their ex and cringe.

Nevertheless I roared at the guy who thought there was no place for woman in Thailand. These people obviously know only one part of this beautiful country. Ok, ya what is with that French guy in tight clothes who's always at some trade show with some sort of.. yes, its some sort of marketing/advertising/entrepreneurism/bitcoin/drone business-that-not-quantifiable-business startup something? He's not just in Thailand but I see that French guy everyyyywhere from Japan down to China, he'll pop up in Laos if he wants? I've tried asking them what exactly they do and almost exclusively an answer involved 'EU trade talks' of some sort where Italy is involved etc. French guy is usually lean and athletic, a bicyclist type so he can get away with those tight shiny dress clothes but what's up with that guy??

I have lived in Thailand in my 20 plus years in Asia. I don't drink, never been to a bar in Thailand but I love the place. From food to the beaches, mountains and jungles. Great gyms and shopping, temples on and on. Oh I never had Thai girlfriend. Those guys that never get out of the bar areas really miss out. What's fun is I look like the typical tourist and always asked what bars I go to and I ask what temples have they visited. I hate to say this but I stay away from foreigners too much trouble seems to follow them.

While all stereotypes are generalisations, it's easy to recognise aspects of all these. The worst, for me, is the old Thai hand who really gets Thailand and knows all the tricks and knows what Thai people are like etc. I think the beauty of Thailand (and most other places for that matter) is that anything you think you know will always be confounded if you keep your eyes and mind open. I met some of the nicest people I ever met in my life amongst the farang-in-Thailand community (and some of the worst and the most desperate too). Thanks for another great video.

The fact is these foreign women just don,t care about what the Asians think. Its all about me, me and me! Sadly their attitudes have caught on with some Thai women. Sort of like a bad virus that spreads . Seen more than a few dressed that could easily pass as street hookers or are topless on the beaches. Do as you please just don,t cry , moan and bitch afterwards when you get in trouble. Then they wonder why they get harassed by Asian men. I will never forget watching three young Swede girls not even eighteen sitting topless on the beach in Hua Hin within minutes three drunk Thai men were following them around. Just one of numerous reasons I just avoid tourist slums in general. Just embarrassing to be around many foreigners. You just never know what stunt they are going to pull next.

The first time I heard about any of that was many, many years ago long before RU-vid and long before I ever visited Thailand, when a European friend told me about their co-worker in Europe who went to Thailand and married a street prostitute and got her with him to Europe and how she doesn't speak a word of the language and what kind of marriage they have. No judgement intended. It is rather sad that some people need this sort of scene.

Thanks Pat for the upload. I am sure there are labels of foreigners in Bali, Boracay, Palawan, and even Singapore. @Trevor Smith is proper marriage to your proper partner, best friend, lover, soul mate etc. the same as paying a prostitute for sex in your eyes? ie. Is marriage just a way to get sex for you? Or, perhaps the prostitutes offer you love and a close relationship? You mention 'paying up front' so I assume you're paying bar girls or similar. Is it the same? However jaded and old I am now, I still remember how it felt early on with my wife. In love. All was wonderful. Prostitutes in Thailand have never given me that, unless I was totally taken in and fooling myself. Something I, and many others, have experienced. But I found out in the end that I was an idiot.

The cartoons were a laugh and spot on, I can relate to the one where the guy is in bed in England v Thailand. When I first went there 15 years ago I was an older backpacker and age 43, wasn't going there for the naughty nightlife. But once I'd experienced it, it became a bit like a not so good habit, and the next trip there was mostly about that and not so much about the culture. Then when I came back to my western life, where I'd already come to the conclusion that things were stacked not in my favour as a man, and now there was no way I was going back what I might be able to get as a partner in N America. That has only increased as I've got older, knowing that there is so much going on over there v a life with a women my age, who is probably going to me overweight and high on the N American feminist/ man dis-liker scale... I don't know quite what is the answer, apart from regular trips to Thailand.

It always comes across that a guy of say 55 could go to Thailand and very quickly have girls falling all over him. The questions I would ask is 1. Are Thai women actually attracted to the sterotypical mid 50's guy from Europe or is it purely money and wealth? 2. If a British guy went to Thailand and made it clear he didn't have a pot to piss in, would he still have women falling all over him? I am curious. Although I am in the UK, I signed up for a Thai dating site. I've never had so many women contact me. In the UK they don't give me the time of day. The Thai types that contacted me weren't stereotypical. I had put the age range 18-90. I did have a woman of 72 say she wanted marriage! But I did get girls of 18, 34, 52. Some looked 'nice' others were general women, not models or anything. I was just curious... I personally think they are into the money only. Unless you think different? I would want someone who is interested in me, not because I had x amount in the bank. I'm not convinced I would get the adoring Thai women into just me as a person.

All whamen in every culture are only interested in money and their "love" is purely transactional. What I saw personally was a HUGE amount of very old guys literally chasing, in most cases, for young Thai's looking like children or at least to be the Farang's grandchildren's age no matter where I went, very, very sad. Great video - presented, as always, in your cool, professional manner. I always imagined I would never become a stereotype. I was smarter than that. I was self-aware. Regrettably, and with some considerable measure of disappointment, I now realise that during my time both in Thailand and Vietnam I probably ticked every stereotypical box, plus a few more besides. I was certainly guilty of falling into the 'I must be handsome - all these lovely girls (and guys, in my case) find me so attractive!' trap. I'm sure I acted like a perfect fool - swaggering about like I was some impossibly good-looking, cocksure 20-something (I'm 59) in my inappropriate tight t-shirt and comically short shorts (clothes I'd never wear at home here in the UK). Typically, I'd swim a few lengths in the hotel's roof top pool and emerge thinking I was an irresistable physical specimen - of course my partners couldn't keep their hands off me! Idiot. Clown. Were they laughing at me? How did they really see me? Time and distance have not provided any answers. I have some good, good memories of the times, people and places. Some really fine moments, but always, behind it all, I know I probably looked and acted the fool more often than not, and I was almost certainly kidding myself about my motivations and those of my partners just about 100% of the time. I was a stereotype. Gullible, probably insensitive, sexually promiscuous, and nowhere near the best version of myself. If I didn't know it then (although I might have suspected it), I certainly do now.

I know the feeling well. I'm now 67 and almost, finally, might have grown out of it, and I can see the reality. I feel that I was a complete prat, especially when I first went there in 1979. I really thought I was 'The Man'. I now realise it was my distorted perspective that allowed me to get involved with the fantasy. I was 'educated' by older mongers who made me believe the most ridiculous things, as indeed they did. Ie. Thai girls worship us and we are like Kings to them. Very soon though, it started to go wrong and I got shat on several times. I was used and abused for money. Its only taken about 40 years for me to realise that's what happens when you deal with sex workers. What a prat. Now, I'm not sure if I wouldnt have been better of if I'd never been there. Or at least, never messed with 'the ladies of Soi 4'.

I had two friends who only went to Pattaya every year they would taxi straight from Bangkok airport and back and fly home. I met one in Pattaya, he stayed in his hotel room during the day and only ate western fast food and bar hopping at night. Surprisingly he could speak and write Thai. But what got me was how much money he was spending and miserable he was. He scrimped and saved up all year to be there. Anyway, I convinced two of them one year to try Chang Mai, to see some different places. They flew to Chang Mai, jumped in a taxi, asked to be taken to the nearest brothel, had a lousy time(too expensive no variety), taxied back to the airport, flew straight back to Bangkok, and abused me for suggesting something different.

A proper response to the how you met your girlfriend or how your parents met for the half Thai half something else: We/they met during a severe thunderstorm. Both were trying to catch a taxi of which there was a shortage of due to the thunderstorm. Both parties felt the only reasonable option was to have a sword fight in the street. First person to get beheaded or struck by lightening loses and the other got the taxi. To answer the question of who won the fight simply say well it should be obvious on who won because I am here now aren’t I.

Good video! A stereotype is a widely held but fixed and oversimplified image or idea of a particular type of person or thing. Generalizations are formed from a general statement or concept obtained by inference from specific cases. Some people have set ways that they are happy with. Being closed minded by not willing to consider different ideas or opinions causing these labels from a person.

After being in Thailand a few months, with some reservation I can say that some men come to Pattaya to die. Mind you, in not the worst possible way. Most though, seem to be climactic refugees from Northern Europe escaping the cold. The bars and girls mostly are a diversion to pass the time so they can get some sleep.

My wife (Thai) and I are both mid-70s. She had been in the US for 40 years... University and then career. We met and married then later decided to spend the rest of our years in the Kingdom. Her family in Thailand are all retired professionals like us. We decided to move back to Thailand and build a retirement house near them in rural Prachinburi. It's quiet and peaceful and I rarely see another Westerner. We are certainly not millionaires, I rarely drink and don't "cat around". Most of our village knows me as do the monks at our local Wat. I'm never subject to "dual pricing" save for my frequent trips to Khao Yai. After 10+ years I still find this the most comfortable retirement.
@Video-tu4vn

I really enjoyed that video Pat. I live in Australia, have a comfortable lifestyle but I would love to retire in Thailand. The main attractions for me are the lifestyle, affordability, the people and the food. Yes of course, young, very attractive women are appealing but I also feel a bit cringy when I see guys my age or older, with the physique and charm of Homer Simpson kidding themselves that they are in any way attractive and with a young girl in tow who is doing what she has to do to get by. I get it, but I don't, if that makes sense. If I ever make it over there to retire, it would be nice to contribute to the local community in some small way too. Anyhow, thanks for your channel, it provides a more detailed insight into every day life in Bangkok and your views and knowledge are appreciated.

Here's another farang stereotype. The dumb tourist, who spends a few months travelling around Thailand. He looses 10 kg, and thinks things are great. Gets back home, and two years later learns the hard way he had a passenger on board. The tape worm was roughly 40 cm long. Fortunately it didn't get into my brain before it decided to vacate the premises. I had never heard, or thought about, the medication you need to take on a regular basis, to protect you from various internal parasites in the tropics.

Great video. I’m new to your channel and very much regret not travelling to Thailand when I had the chance (20yrs ago). In the Uk, most of us men (especially married) get broken down over a few decades. Work and family life take turns in giving you a good kicking. Finances for most are always stretched and the minute your wife sees you having the slightest bit of fun. It’s put a stop to. Men have few friends here and I can only imagine the freedoms felt on arriving in Thailand for that new start. I’m sure if western women appreciated their men more and rewarded them (we are easily pleased), the stereotypes would be less obvious. Maybe? I like your non judgemental and informative style 👍

In general, what is it with other foreigners in Thailand when they see each other. Case in point, I was at Robinson this morning when I saw a foreigner coming head on with his girlfriend and then he saw me and gets all googly eyed staring at me as he passed but doesn't say a word. It's either that or a massive scowl comes across their face like ''I'm the only farang in the village.''
@BangkokPat
@BangkokPat 2 года назад
That happens when they wanna be the only farang in the area and he's mentally profiling you about your wealth, if your GF is a bargirl and whether you're a teacher. Many farangs do it to eachother in passing. Some think it's like a pissing contest

A lot of people “bog” you in Thailand which is basically where you stare at someone in public even while they’re aware that your staring at them and then to look away the moment they look around to stare back. It’s actually quite fun as you can really get inside peoples heads, just make sure you don’t actually make eye contact with them…
