It means customers DO know that’s why they are not buying the GS and buying the germans instead. . The ES on the other hand sells like hot cakes and caters perfectly to its demographic. companies don’t build cars for their fans, they build cars to make money....
I love my 11 AWD! The used car dealer that sold it to me said the car may be rolling 30 years from now. I believe it! I put 80K miles on it already and just did oil and spark plugs.
@@ASRCO  no it gets it every 6 mos or 5k miles. I do it myself. I did see a tiny weep on one of the rear struts, I ordered a set of KYBs. Looks like an easy job. That is certainly expected and fair at this point as a maintenance item. I think the rear handling is a bit softer from when I got it.
You are right. However, there was a story of an axle giving out on an RX. The lady didn’t pay attention to the wear and tear I believe, and the suv was very old.
I've owned a GS300, GS400, GS430, GS450h, and now GSF. I am sad that the line is coming to an end. The GSF feels like a culmination of the best parts of every generation and it is a dream to drive. It is truly a special car.
Kevin S this would never become cancelled if it was great, it wasn’t good enough. A consistent toyota problem was lack of aerodynamics and track performance handling.
@@klau88873 Name 3 models from that era, so much better that you would buy instead. Lexus, like all other companies, focused more on SUV recently. That's it. Don't even talk about older models. If 1st gen was so bad like you said, they wouldn't have continued, and same for 2nd and 3rd. If you don't know much, sit down.
Kevin S im NOT sorry, i broke my chair. Everyone is playing the SUV business. Baby boomers getting old and need SUV for comfort. Baby boomers with $$$$. Lexus has a PROBLEM. they are trying to play small and safe with the wrong type of customers at the wrong price level. Customers with lots of $$$$$ majority of them dont care how they spend. They just want something amazing, fast, powerful, good looks, prestige. Also, a common complaint about lexus design and i heard this while attending the autoshow, is the face front grill. A lot of peepo are not happy with the weird “hourglass” look. It looks like a toyota designer, took a grill off an audi, cut it in half and put it back together, with wrong proportions. I am not the only one who thought about this, there has been so many complaints about the front grill.
@@klau88873 Broke your chair? That's the lamest comeback Ive ever heard. Second of all, that's all you can come up with? the grill? hourglass grill??? This is called Spindle Grill and I know there are people who hate them and there are people who love them. I happened to be latter. You really think one design aspect of this car is enough to generalize Lexus having issues??? A consistent Toyota problem of lack of aerodynamics and track performance??? You obviously never heard of LFA Nurburgring Edition. Have you seen what they sell annually? check the numbers bro. Number don't lie. Not to mention, have you seen which company has been the number 1 ( they slid to 2 this year) in highest dependability awards?? I can go on and on. Just because you are a bimmer or Audi fanboy (whichever) and do not like the way Lexus designed their grills, you can't say Lexus has a problem. Every company has problems. Not just Lexus. But to me, they are selling their vehicles alright. Play safe with wrong type of customers at the wrong price level? How the hell did you come up with that one? who told you they are playing with wrong price level? YOu can't afford this or something?? Gonna tell you again. Sit your ass down.
I've got a 2013 midnight blue mica with oyster gray leather, prem, & luxury packages. Just turned 88K it has many more miles to go. I agree, the 2013 was the best designed GS350.
I think you can see the rear slope shape in all generations of the GS. The elegant drive quality and reliability of the GS will stand the test of time. I drove a 2021 Lexus ES when I brought my GS in for a recall and it didn't drive NEARLY as good as the GS, no competition the GS drives better, more silky, more responsive. It's a special car.
I am recently a proud owner of my 2016 Lexus GS350 AWD. Traded my 2011 Lexus IS250 for the GS350. The car came with 28600 miles and so far, I definitely made the right decision in getting this car over the ES 350. The ES is not a bad car, it's very spacious and very comfortable and quiet, but I needed a big sedan with AWD and performance. Within 3 weeks, the car drives like a combination of the IS and ES. Definitely one of the best Japanese cars I ever driven. Now I've watched this video, I am saddened that the GS may not be here very long enough. Definitely will keep the car for as infinitely long as I can.
I purchased a pre-owned 2015 GS 350 last year and I absolutely love this car. Powerful at 306 hp and 277 lb-ft of torque, this car is amazing. The styling, the drive, the interior...such a great car. I will be sad to see this model line cease to exist if that is what happens. Great video!
I just bought a white 2015 GS350 F sport with circuit red interiorand it seems not many people own the 4th Gen gs in my area and it seems to turn a few heads. The only issue with it is it has blind spot monitor malfuction so I keep it turned off.
MemphisTiger Bummer about your sensors. I agree, the GS does get some looks. I also looked at a GS 350 F-Sport...just couldn’t justify the extra cost since specs are identical. Okay, so I don’t have a Mark Levinson stereo and shock dampening...I can live without those. 😉
@@doctajonz2828 I was looking for a 2016 actually because of the newer grille and taillights and probably a few addtl features not on the 4th Gen but I'm my area they were mostly about 4 grand or more price difference and I definitely couldn't see the justification. I'm happy I found it.
I feel like it’s gonna come back from the dead if Lexus keeps getting demands from thousands and thousands of ppl to bring it back cuz they want the GS
I doubt this would happen. And you can't simply bring back a car with just a few thousands of demands. Just look at the example of the Yaris GR. Peoples are writing all over the US to Toyota to allow this car to be imported, and they don't do that. And seriously, in the actual sedan unfriendly environment, Lexus would be well advised to reduce it's sedan portofolio. GS was not solding, LS doesn't sell, CT sells not very well, ES isn't imported in all markets yet. LC is very expensive and sells in scarse numbers. Honestly, on the european market, the IS is the only sedan of the lineup that can be calling "selling", and the CT just behind it (european like small cars). But I need to underline the good international selling performance of the RC, that is clearly gaining the interst of the younger community due to it's presence in popular videogames and the Supra fiasco. My strategy for cutting costs for Lexus would be to play the proximity with Toyota and use Lexus to propose models that are more interesting and soughed after. The Toyota Century, for example, could be a splendid Lexus LS with a slighly revised/adapted interior to make him more international market friendly. The Toyota Alphard coud be a splendid Lexus Van, that are in high demand amongst rich peoples.
Same here. Sold an X5 that was in fine shape but was reaching the mileage range where something major was about to pounce on my bank account. My 13 GS has been a blessing of reliability and a great driving experience.
I owned 3rd generation 2006 GS300 AWD.....loved that car...had the Mark Levinson surround sound audio system.....gave the GS to my son in 2011 when I bought LS460 AWD and he kept it until 2018 and trade for an IS350 .....the GS was a work horse and never needed any repairs beyond oil changes, tires and brakes....the GS was a model of reliability
The GS is THE reason why I bought a Lexus. I love my 2016 GS F sport! The ES is too similar to the Camry and the IS is way too small. The GS combines a sporty exterior with an elegant interior. Lexus is creating a serious void.
I have a 2013 Lexus GS450H in Starfire Pearl white. 87k miles in mint condition. After a few years of reliability and fun I’m experiencing a parasitic drawn on the 12v starting battery. The Mark Levinson amp goes in and out here and there. Otherwise an amazing looking and driving vehicle.
Love the GS, I’ve had the last three generations. I was waiting and hoping for any news on a new one. Looks like I’ll be holding on to my 08 and 15 GS’s. Sad day 😞😞
Nooooooooooooo I wanted to get another GS when my lease was up!!!!!!! I treasured my 4th generation 2013 Gs 350😍 Hold on GS I have 4 more years!!!!!!!!!!😥😥😥😥😥😥😥😥
doctajonz Im leasing a Lexus NX now to get rid of my last Infiniti’s negative equity if you must know ...don’t be rude about it. I had a 4th gen GS a few years ago
Courtney Manuel Not being rude, sorry. Most people I know with a Lexus have purchased, myself included. I’m not a fan of leasing and changing cars every few years, but I know tons of people do it. I personally would rather buy...I guess I like the feeling of owning. It’s all good. How do you like the NX? I drove one while my GS was being serviced...they’re pretty sweet.
I was fortunate to have driven all 4 generations of this car and owned 3 of them. I had a 1998 400, a 2008 450H, and currently have a 2013 350. I would've kept my 450H forever if someone wouldn't have hit me and totaled it, the acceleration was crazy! I hope one day I can get a GSF.
I got one for my wife, it's a black 2013 year model, The performance behind the vehicle in Sport mode is mind blowing ,and let's not forget the Mark Levi sound system. I never heard a factory sound system that can translate MASSIVE BASS from a song.
Just bought a 2013 Lexus GS 350, Nebula Gray with the Luxury Package!! I've always wanted one but once I heard they were getting discontinued I had to get one.
i have 2007 GS350 with 2GR-FSE, only 60k mile, still drive like new.... ill keep this forever, this car still drive like brand new . Super fast . Very good on gas . It has every single option . I am a used car dealer , I drive lot of car . Still every single time I drive this car make smile. Always I use break etc from dealer and changed it my self with factory manual torque. If you find a used one buy ASAP . Better value then new car . Fast like bmw 540!
My first GS was a 1995. I loved it. From that point on I never bought another model. I then upgraded to the 2000 GS Matador Red Mica. That was my baby. Never had a problem with her. When I sold her she was 7 years old with over 220k miles. My next GS was a 2007, I called her Lexi 3. I loved her as well until she was murdered on the hwy by a drunk driver who rear ended me and totaled my car. I then went and purchased Lexi 4, 2010 GS same design but different color . I am currently still driving my 2010 she has 158k miles on her and besides basic maintenance, I've had no issues with her. I will be updating to the 2020 Lexi 5 this year but I am keeping my 2010. Long live Lexi
I just bought 2000 LS 400. I can't believe that for a 20-year old car it still drive amazingly. I still remember the Lexus slogan when I was in H.S. " The Relentless Pursuit of Perfection"...I feel like that work of perfection still carries on til this day, at least for this car. lol (knock on woods)
I test drove GS-F last year. Salesman was a cool dude. He let me take it on I75. It was very fun to drive, in fact I liked it way better than the RC-F. Sad to see it go.
It drives extremely well. I just found the shapes of the GS-F out of balance. At the other side, the RC-F drives a little worse, but the presence and the lines of this car are just Hiroshima on wheels.
Just bought a 2017 GS 450h in Sonic Titanium with just 3688 miles on the clock!! Hope to keep this for a long time and as you point out it’s a beautifully built car and fantastic to drive.
I had a gs400, I had modded like crazy insane fast and was reliable, I sold it at 200k miles 0 issues- picked up a ISF now back to the GS-F. Insane cars.
I'm glad that I purchased the 2014 GS350 F-Sport for my first car. Never knew it existed until I saw it. Not many are on the road so definitely stands out without a doubt. Will keep for sure
2019 was the last year of the GS. It’s been in the works for some time. I’ve been a Lexus Tech for 6 years and I always loved the GS. I personally own a 2007 GS450h hybrid with 232k miles and counting.
Phil B they also decided to bring in the UX, which is basically a nicer lifted corolla hatchback. I’ve seen maybe 10 in the last year they started selling them.
@@zachardiman6473 Im so over this crossover wave. Manufacturers are literally sticking models inbetween models of just crossovers. Pretty soon well have no sedans or wagons
GSF owner here. No plans to get rid of it whatsoever!! 😎 Sad news though if the GS will indeed be discontinued. Resale Value, reliability, power, luxury, looks, Mark Levinson sound system. Checks all the boxes. What more can you ask for. Most competitors do one thing or two things better, but this has it all. Complete all around package. 👍🏿
My 2008 GS 460 with the 4.6L V8 in silver is the smoothest and best ride I've ever had. Exact same one as 3:51 time stamp. too bad they got rid of the V8 with the GS and LS, but what can ya do. fare thee well !
I love the 2nd gen GS300/400s such a classic car that will never leave u stranded, my dad owned one when I was young and now I want one, sucks to see they’re being discontinued, I hope to own one soon
Always a GS fan, owned several 2nd Gen GS and now drive a 3rd Gen GS450h. Praying the GS is resurrected as a sporty high performance GranTourismo 4 door coupe.
What would have been the truly *BEST* send off for the GS-F would be to give it the active exhaust and 10-Speed from the LC500! I love everything about the GS-F, *but* haven driven _and experiencing_ an LC500 ... the GS-F definitely deserves those two upgrades! The LC500s exhaust gives you what you want and is that thing that has been missing from *EVERY LEXUS V8 “F” CAR!* ... which is a damn shame because the LC really isn’t a true sports car, it’s a _touring coupe!_ Yes it goes quickly and can handle decently well but it doesn’t give you that _drive me harder_ feeling like the GS-F!
I got a 2013 GS350 F-Sport. This is the best one in my mind. I will keep it as long as I can. Every time I drive it and I look at her again when I walk away after locking me car, she's new all the time. GS and IS are the best of Lexus. Feel bad that market makes products lack of personalities. GS Forever!
I refuse to believe the GS goes away until the AWD ES is a definite and is in production...I don't see how Lexus can completely vacate the mid-size RWD AND AWD segments...
Toyota/Lexus have shifted heavily towards being more eco-friendly. Building performance cars has taken a back seat. Hence the reason for their partnerships w/ Subaru on the 86, and BMW for the Supra.
I think a survey should be carried out before companies like Lexus make such decisions. There is no car like the GS in lexus's line up and the Ls can never replace it. Too bad
Went into the market for a GSF and after driving back to back, ended up getting an RCF with carbon fiber/TVD. Just the 1 foot smaller size, lighter and stiffer/sportier setup, exterior styling suited me more personally. Ended up getting a used Lexus RX450h to cover the utility while RCF for that gem of an engine. It is every bit the masterpiece the hype is about. 471 HP from a very sonorous engine. If I wanted a 4 door, I would have gotten a GSF no doubt. Both are great cars.
Loved my 2013 GS350 AWD F-sport. It offered perfect size, good performance and good looks. Lexus is going to mistake if they think GS customers are going to be satisfied with a current ES350 offering. The IS is too small and the LS is a boat. Unless Lexus is willing to make an ES350 AWD F-Sport, some of us may be forced to look outside Lexus. That would be a real shame.
Metta HD I’m not really happy about that possibility. I’ve driven test driven an E class and 5 series but my heart for that class of car will always lean towards the GS. I really hope that can make a variant of the ES that can try to replace a portion of what the GS offered.
Just bought a mint 2001 GS430! Only 69,000 miles! Garaged right now but pulling it out this Friday as winter is finally over! GSF is next up (in several years)
Good idea but it would make it too heavy. One of the few advantages “on paper” is that it is a bit lighter than its competition. Plus the price would go up if they had to make the TVD all wheel drive.
Had a 2015 GS 350 F sport - owned for 4 years as a lease - after a 45 minute test drive without my sales guy, I had to have it. I loved it so much, I extended that lease an extra year. 0-60 in 5.5 seconds. amazing suspension, agility, fuel economy on highway trips, quiet comfort. I'd buy a used one again!
I’ve owned Lexus GS’s since 1996 and loved everyone. Since 2010, I owned 450h’s. It’s a sporty, fun, comfortable, practical car. I’m sorry to see it go. I hope the make an all electric ES soon!
Thanks for the video, Kirk. Love my 2013 GS. Best car I've ever owned, and I'd be really sad to see it fall victim to the same fate as so many great sedans lately. Damn crossovers!
2020 owner and it’s the best thing I see on the road. I will take reliability and performance over bizarre new tech for tech’s own sake. This is a DRIVER’S car with value. Lexus needs to bring this back.
If they continue to produce these in the USA we could be seeing many more of these videos . I've been a Lexus buyer for 30+ years. When I saw the engine recall notice, that was the end of my loyalty - Thanks for your videos!
Have a 13’ Gs350. Liked it so much, that I bought GS-F. Have both of them and plan on keeping both. Both are totally different cars from a driving perspective and amazing in their own ways.
I own a 2013 GS350 AWD with 60K miles (I drive my truck most of the time) I've owned three MB's - driven nearly every luxury brand aside from the really big dogs and honestly this car still delivers!! Fun to drive, responsive, still looks new - and I've literally never had a mechanical problem. Can't say the same for the Benz's I've owned. Lexus doesn't disappoint.
Kirk, I apologize for emailing you inquiring why the GS was discontinued. I did not see, until today, this great video. I like how you cover the history of the vehicle. I still find the exterior attractive and maybe should have purchased a GS instead of my IS.
I find it strange the GS didn't sell well. I love it. I've has IS300, RX400h, RX450H and a GS450H. My next car will be a GSF. I love the GS. The IS is really a coupe with a backseat. The GS is a proper sedan.
