The UK and US military relationship and people relationship is the most closest on both sides , however the new president just hates the UK unfortunately .
@@theancientsancients1769 What absolute nonsense. I think you'll find Biden has done a lot to rebuild the alliance, after the Russian stooge and criminal traitor Trump did his level best to destroy it. Let's hope the American's have woken up to what an absolute disaster for their international reputation Trump was. It will take years to rebuild trust in the US after that tax-avoiding, phoney businessman was in office. Toodlepip!
@@theancientsancients1769 Yeah, but to be fair the current US president probably hates the current US president....if he knew who it was. He's degrading that much you could say 'president biden' and he'd still ask, 'who?'.
Nah mate, disgusting place. We had a 4-day liberty there. Dreary rain, surly locals, and could not get over the fact that you people....FRY MARS BARS!!!! WTF????
Nobody doubts, the bravery of the American servicemen. And these have yet again shown that tradition. WE in Britain call our NAVY , The Senior Service. I think you all held up that tradition. thankyou for keeping our kids safe . Sail home with a fair wind .
About ten years back I was afraid the British Navy would just be a proud memory. Now that we are working together again we can be best assured our coasts are clear.
Yes, but unfortunately our importance to the US as an ally has always been inversely proportional to our reliance upon them, and our.national interests don't always coincide. Whenever they diverge the US always does whatever it wants, regardless. That's why we were much better off and far more valuable as an ally when we were part of the EU.
No! USS The Sullivans from me a Brit gutted as all of you on that great ship is as if we closed the Atlantic into a real Pond. In laymans terms you are part of a team that works really well. I seriously hope you all will be back again some time and damn well welcome back any day.
You're a 'Brit'? Really? Judging by your appalling grammar and total lack of punctuation, I'd never have guessed English was your first language. In any case, your comment made no sense, whatsoever.
Nothing is more impressive than seeing our navies sailing together on deployment! That is true firepower and might on display! God bless all of our USN warriors & our brothers and sisters from across the pond and down under!
The UK thanks USS Sullivans & her crew. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed watching her during HMS Queen Elizabeth’s maiden deployment. Safe passage home for tea & medals 😉
It's amazing the state the ship's get into while at sea , I'll never forget the day i seen the ship's come home to Rosyth naval base in Scotland as a child after the Falklands war , they really were in a state! it was the first i thing noticed and will always remember for some reason..
They only get in a state when there’s no budget for maintenance or the ships past it’s service quota and doesn’t need maintaining. There’s russian slava class cruisers from 1976 in service looking like new. USS Sullivan’s is only from 1994. The US navy just don’t want her anymore it costs roughly a million £/$ to paint a warship that lasts 5-10 years. The same it costs to fuel 1 F16 for 1 year. The US has 1,245 F16’s…
I think the surface level rust is very superficial and not a big strategic concern and therefore doesn't receive much budgeting for. If you look at the whole Japanese military, they seem to really care about the aesthetic of their vehicles and associate cleaner and newer looking vehicles as more advanced, you can see their ships, fighter aircraft are really clean, the biggest difference I noticed between Western militaries and Japan is looking at US helicopters vs Japanese helicopters
I used to work on a ship and the deck crew seemed to spend their entire time on duty wire brushing rust of the decks. I asked one of them about it and his response was "You put a big metal box in saltwater and you get rust, simple as". That was me told.
"The Sullivans" is named after the five Sullivan brothers. They were World War II sailors who, serving together on the light cruiser USS Juneau, all killed in action when their ship was sank. "Saving Private Ryan" was also based off of this tragedy.
They were not just sailors on the same ship. All five were brothers. The only male children in their family. Though they did have one sister. When their ship sank they all died.
That Arleigh Burke looks rather impressive steaming along at full chat! I wish they had modern video cameras back in WW1 & 2 to capture stunning shots of those ships powering around at top speed. Would have loved to see the Hood when she was new especially, the biggest & fastest capital ship in the world.
There are some old cine films on RU-vid of Hood leaving Portsmouth, and in rough weather. Historic footage. Massive, elegant and lethal, looks fast even at anchor!
Went alongside the Sullivans on HMS Cardiff at Mayport, in around 1999, the Sullivands was brand spanking new at the time. I was on the other hand on an aging type 42 destroyer. One young USA sailor commented on how clean and well kept the Cardiff was. Now that was down to me!!. Proud to be Navy, proud to be British, and very much proud to be the best.
USS Sullivans is a proper fighting warship, certainly looks the part. They just helped the UK Carrier Strike Group put up a big fat middle finger to the Chinese! Thanks for the assist ;-)
The 'USS The Sullivans' is not as good as it looks, since it is not even equipped with a helicopter hangar and the AEGIS system has become quite outdated. The fact that this ship also does not have an integrated mast (like the Type 45, the Sachsen-class and basically all modern warships) is also not very ideal.
@@glastonbury4304 I agree, the US Navy has amazing ships but the USS The Sullivans is not of those anymore. A destroyer without the ability to carry helicopters is much more vunerable in the ASW role.
@@Tom-zo2bd ...the USN Battle Groups have enough ships with helicopters , I think you're looking at it to much from a European stand point where our navies aren't that large and we build more multi role ships
@黃明 are you a Chinese? The communist party who used to steal rss, claim a portion of WPS, bully small countries, but when the USNavy ships are inside the WPS, they're like a fckng crybaby.
am old enough, during the 2nd World War to have seen as a boy the 'Fighting Sullivans. A great film and a great ship named after them. Brave young men who gave their lives for freedom like many more
I was working at White Beach Naval Base in Okinawa, and the Brits pulled in..Just some Amazing guys..I mean just Amazing..they drank everything and I swear they built their own still over night...Awesome!
She is always there , lest we forget , she is always watching , Her missiles go very very , far. Or she can whisper to her brothers and sisters and then the whole family is after you. Fear not. Peace.
I would love to see the UK and the US Navy increase their interoperability by having a constant carrier strike group exchange effort. Destroyers and Frigates should be able to flex between carrier groups.
Cost mitigation. Flight I was brought onboard when Perry and Spruce were still around and S3 Vikings were flying. The intent was for Burkes to not have the ASW-general purpose screen role but more like a surface warfare-air defense ship. The Navy was transitioning back to all steel ships and decided to mitigate cost. Program managers also limited electrical power growth potential and that’s been a complaint ever since.
one wonders when the USMC flight will RTU ? , would be nice to see them on deck when she returns to the UK and what will be a rapturous home coming party !
I love how RU-vid applies the absolutely most effective advertisements to the channel…. So before I watch the might of the US and British Navies I get 15 seconds of a female trying to sell me make up from Boots for Christmas……. You’ve got to love the RU-vid algorithms…..
Why are people complaining about the ship being rusting! It’s in salt water it’s clearly going to get like that. It Doesn’t mean it’s battle capabilities are reduced so long as the rust doesn’t turn into a hole or get deep within the armour.
That is a beautiful sight! The Royal Navy and The U.S. Navy, two most dominate forces on the seas. God Save the Queen 🇬🇧 God Bless The United States. 🇺🇸 and might I add The HMS QE2 is a Beautiful ship in her own right!
I wonder if that Female sailor on the , I think , QE will see this and see her wonderful hair . Truly a shocker LOL LOL. Apart from that another sad moment when you see various Ships , Sailors & troops leave for home . Their friendships / Families will last forever . cheers from Aust ..
While the US and UK have had differences in the past the fact remains that we are closely allied politically, militarily, and economically because we are brethren.
Good to see the US military holding fast with supporting the RN, perhaps you can get comatose Joe to show some love also ! Safe trip back to the US. Strange how two countries with such similar outlooks has no free trade agreement. Still, let's stick with the military, far more reliable.
'Comatose Joe', as you call him, has worked hard to rebuild the alliance after the disaster of the criminal traitor Trump, who tried his level best to destroy it. That's what happens when you elect a phoney businessman and Russian stooge. Toodlepip!
Actually I don't think The Sullivans is doing even full speed, much less flank. The British ships are almost at dead slow and The Sulllivans is probably doing maybe 3 quarter speed. US destroyers at flank speed actually have a rooster tail of water behind them. And it's awful tuff to keep the ship painted while at sea and conducting operations. OBTW, in 1979 I spent 3 days aboard HMS Achilles in the Red Sea. It was wonderful, and I've been a true Anglophile ever since.
Think the deployment is coming to an end now. Queen Elizabeth is on her way home. Next out, I'm guessing will be HMS prince of Wales, and I'm certain other NATO ships will be involved with that deployment to 🇬🇧🇺🇲👍
As a navy veteran, I'm not quick to criticize videos like this, but am I supposed to believe that's a real thumbnail when it looks like the DDG has a big hole rusted in the side? Somebody please explain if I'm missing something here.
Could you allow us to oggle UK equipment more with this kind of send off, I know there is usually an event at the time but your own tribute(s) would be further appreciated, you clearly have your own archive why not show it off in a few more ways.
