The flaw in that theory is that Marge has been extraordinary to that point. And the first interview was massively suspicious, if only for comedic effect. What we're meant to believe then, is that Marge couldn't figure out how utterly incompetent Jerry was. Not buying it, she's too smart. The audience, on the other hand, may have needed some help.

I'm more disturbed when I see reactors not laugh at all during the entire movie, I've seen a ton of my favorite reactors completely miss the humor in this movie and act as if it's some gritty crime thriller, it's ABSOLUTELY HILARIOUS.

It was an excellent performance but that year i thought the winner should have been Emily Watson in Breaking The Waves

I think the question was rather... was trying to fix the phony financing problem the reason for needing money, or was it a prior scam to get money for an original debt.

@First City Views Hardees and Carl Jr's are average fast food burger joints. But better than McDonald's imo.

Gotcha, we live on a tiny island in Southeast Alaska, we have a McDonald's and a barely functioning Subway and that's it so we are used to all fast food being terrible, I'm always curious about chains I've never heard of.

That's a great way to put it. I think it's because their stuff feels very grounded even when ridiculous stuff it going on.

And then he's just about to get in an argument right after he says that but then the scene just plows ahead.... so freaking funny!

Don't confuse the absurdism of the plot with painting characters as fools. The examples of significant events being regarded with indifference, and even callous disdain, while people seemed to carry on as normal, eating, shopping. The characters are rich with quirks and oddities you find in people everywhere you go. This had the juxtaposition of the hyper-polite, wholesome stereotype vs the truly dark motive of the husband and how it goes off the rails. Then insert Marge and Norm, tender, sweet people, with the tough-minded, tender-hearted Marge out to solve the case. I don't see fools in this movie. I see "normal" people trying to pull off a crime and having it turn out as it normally does...with people making mistakes that lead the cops right to them. 😊

I think Big Labowski is one of the next ones we will check out, always wanted to watch it, No Country for old men is one of my favorites.

yes, its a thoroughly enjoyable film. and the humor is reality based not absurdist which gives the film an aire of authenticity. i kinda link this film with "the usual suspects." both released close to each other, with ensemble casts, about an intense crime drama sprinkled with related humour. the main thing wrong with this film is that the coen bros falsely claimed it be based upon "true events." THAT WAS AN ACT FRAUD! and a completely unnecassary fraud to boot. the movie is wonderful as it is. a completely charming and intense piece of fiction. why misrepresent it as a "true story?" what on earth were they thinking?

Heard great stuff! Definitely want to check it out.

We've had a lot of requests for Miller's Crossing too, not that it's a comedy but it seems to be a fan favorite with the Coen fans.

@@firstcityviews Yes; also there is a not so overtly humorous film called "A Serious Man". Like all Coen brothers movies it is somewhat quirky ( It stars Simon Helberg; Woolowitz from The Big Bang Theory); but in my humble opinion not as good as the others.

PS: Two more: No one has done David Lynch's "Wild At Heart" yet, which again is a bizarre, wild, hilarious, demented, fun movie. And there are only a few reactions for his "Blue Velvet", one of the most notorious and groundbreaking movies of the 80s. I think you guys would KILL on "Wild At Heart"! Other movies from this period that don't have nearly enough reactions: Scorsese's "The King Of Comedy" (beyond brilliant and highly topical to today) and "Cape Fear" (huge suspense film of the 90s, only one reaction so far). Also his 1985 movie "After Hours" is WILD and demented and there are only two reactions for it so far, even though it's a beloved movie, one of the wildest of the 80s. And lastly: "Boogie Nights" (from 1998) which is a party and a half, starring EVERYBODY you ever heard of, lol. Wes Anderson's "The Royal Tenenbaums" is outstanding. "Dazed And Confused" from 1994, would LOVE to see your reactions to that one! Also the movie "Dazed And Confused" is almost a sort of cultural sequel" to: George Lucas' "American Graffiti". (both are youth culture movies that take place one night: the first on the eve of the 60s, last day of summer 1962.....and then last day of school 1976. The elephant in the room: the 60s themselves which you never see! But they are acutely felt in both films! Ok enough from me! LOVE your budding reaction channel!

PSS: And "Network"! (1976) Wild media satire, even more relevant to today than it was when it was made!

My wife has family from Wisconsin, I have family from Minnesota, they basically could have said anything and we would have laughed.

Absolutely, the accent is just the gravy on top. My wife's family is from Wisconsin so we started laughing almost immediately.

What tragedy? Everything that was dark and brutal about this movie was made even funnier when juxtaposed over the ridiculous setting and characters, I also think the "true story" part was just a weird joke, not meant to fool anyone.

@@firstcityviews ... the whole movie was a tragedy. didn't you get it? that was the whole point of the sheriff's last monologue. that was the point of seeing that ending arrest at the motel. there was nothing funny about those things. also, the coen bros passed this off as "based on true events." critics and audiences believed it was based on true events. there were reports of people who went looking for the lost money. it only came out later that was a lie. committing fraud is no joke, my friend. anyway, i'm glad you liked the film. although you liked it for completely different reasons than i did. cheers to the art of filmmaking!

Schindler's List has funny parts??? No way dude. Your argument makes no sense. Coen Brothers always have quirky, funny dark scenes going on with mishaps and violence. You can't compare Schindler's List and Fargo.

@@firstcityviews Well, this movie isn't really intended as a comedy. Breaking out in laughter when the trooper's head is destroyed isn't funny. It wasn't intended to be funny. I think you missed the point.

Laughter is a common way to deal with uncomfortable situations, and it absolutely is a comedy, in fact it had some of the funniest moments I've ever seen in a movie, I think you may have missed the point...

Side note: I actually didn't laugh when the trooper was shot, I just said "oh brutal, that came out of nowhere". So what are you even on about?

This movie is very definition of dark humor. I laughed at quite a few scenes in the movie.

@@coxmosia1 Agreed. I think there is a very small but vocal group of viewers that has zero grasp on the concept of dark humor. Our Jojo Rabbit video has faced similar criticism from people trying to claim that it isn't a comedy and isn't funny in the slightest, THAT IS ABSURD, it literally has a cartoon version of Hitler skipping around the screen like a maniac. I LOVE dark humor, the darker the better.
