Definitely a series I would have gotten into if I had been able to play them back in the day! Unfortunately RPG games just weren’t as popular in North America **sigh** would have been nice to have more JRPG style games on the PC

I really enjoyed learning about this series. It's not every day someone discovers a new (to many of us, anyway!) lost '90s anime game series with art on par with stuff like LUNAR or Popful Mail. That sweet spot of '90s anime art that brought us stuff like Slayers and Saber Marionette - I can't get enough of that charming & badass '90s anime look, so any game that oozes that vibe is one I am happy to learn about! So I have an alternate name for Van's Super Saiyan form... I call him "Party Van" ;) Also, a decent English translation of the title... I would call it "the True King of Beasts." Sure I left out that word "Proof" but it gets the same idea across. Sigh.... almost feels like an end of an era, no more Farland PC-98 games.... I mean I am hoping you continue into the Windows games but still.

can't believe this series is finally over! I'll agree with previous comments shout-out to the one with the duck, haha. I wish I could figure out how to get retroarch to play these I'd at least like to see what the first one is like. Haven't figured it out yet though, maybe someday. as an aside I did start the PC88 version of Ys on Nintendo Switch, that one's been fun now that I know what I'm doing!

More Farland, nice! I actually subscribed to this channel after getting hooked on your videos covering this series, so I'd say it's definitely to my taste :P Really hope you also cover the final 8th entry, even if it's not a PC-98 game, for completion sake ;) BTW, is it just me or the level art in this game looks significantly nicer composition-wise? Like the background stuff looks much better designed and the tiles form more visually varied landscapes that don't repeat as obviously as the previous ones.

Ah yes, return of whiskey joke, i don't think Farland Story game review would be complete without it xD And about the game itself, i like how character portraits are looking and it's still seems funny and lighthearted, but this whole humans vs shapeshifting humans conflict thingy was reminding me about two Fire Emblem games: Path of Radiance and Radiant Dawn. I wonder it there was some inspiriation in here.

CD music went "here hold my beer" to the MIDI's. I'm looking this one up because holy crap that was amazing!

5:02 this top down overview of the battlefield is very similar to early SRW(Super Robot Wars games , as far back as SRW 3. SRW OG 1 GBA version also still had the grid, but not the PS2 version which used 3d models and isometric view.) 👍 I am glad to have found your channel thru the Rusty vids. edit: 19:45 - 20:20 oh, maybe SRW or Namco X Capcom may/may not have aspects appeal to you, especially regarding stage/scenario length.

Have you ever thought about doing a playlist of music from the PC-98 that is relaxing, chill, calm, or sleepy? With the knowledge you have on the PC-98, I think it would make for a good playlist.

Really lo e the style.on these JRPG's. Some of the Ps1 and Ps2 RPG's had some awesome Anime intros. They just don't make anime like they did in the late 80s thru the 90s.

Now THIS is a game where I wish I could have been able to play. The concept is amazing, and the music is just amazing!

I hope you keep doing this series to the end! Ive liked the plots and art, and how is the music still so amazing. Looking forward to #8

Given the premise and who you play as I think a proper localized subtitle would be "Innocence of the Beast King" since you're basically clearing your ancestors name. The only other way I can think of why it's called "Proof of the Beast King" is for more spoileriffic reasons.

Huh, this Farland Story is right up my alley. I am incredibly lion-biased, though. I feel like the -shinha part in Narashinha is based off the Sanskrit word for a lion, "sinha". You can see this similarly in the Swahili name Simba, which should sound much more familiar. :p Interesting that not only are the demons responsible for trying to make humans and beasts fight again, but that some of them go rogue against the other demons. I hate to draw a comparison to Mother 3 but I can't help it -- the trickster god being all like "I'm gonna cause the two mortal races to kill each other in war because I'm bored" sounds way too much like the main antagonist in M3. And our boy Van really pulls a Red XIII and does a somersault to attack in lion form, huh? They might've gotten the inspiration for Red's attack in FF7 from Van. Not that I'm complaining. Cool to see all the system tweaks and mechanics, though it's a shame there's no revival booze. I suppose Van's absinthe-fueled vision quest will have to do. I suppose going back to the places you'd been before throughout the campaign might help the world feel more lived in, rather than going to arbitrary new places all the time? Some of the special fights, like having to run from the first encounter with humans, and having to have the princess do a stealth mission, both seem interesting things to include in an SRPG's engine.

You should do a vid on your story and how you're fluent in Japanese and love these old computers, that would be so great. I love your channel but you're such a mystery!

Still sad that we missed out on so much cool stuff here in the Western world. Keep the videos coming!

After Watching: I guess you need to play Horny Sweeper to get the true Farlan Story experience in full! Jokingaside, I'd have to play them all before I can say which is my favorite, but I gotta say I love the art in this one the most.

"Favneel" is probably supposed to be Fafnir, a dragon from norse mythology. I assume it's "Fafuneeru" in the kana? I should really learn to read kana at some point...

I would guess that ファヴニール should be Fáfnir, since he's a dragon and all. I want to say I've seen it as both ファヴニール and ファフニール in various things.

Good day to everyone Basement Brothers or anyone can you please tell me what are all the special skills each characters does since my computer is english and when i play the game its all symbols and not in Japanese i just started playing this farland story so far i know are the following: 1) Red hair lion- area attack same does the Mole guy 2) White bird- area scan 3) Green hair horse- area heal aswell as the female human (blondie) 4) Green Hair elf- does like shadow or hide something like that now i dont know what does the special skill does for the rest: Mermaid, the grey wolf, fairy and the rest??

I wonder if those bugs are the wrong names on the dialog boxes, or the right name and the wrong picture.

Just played Dungeon of Eternity in VR with 2 of my friends. After that everything feels lame including real life. I still like old 2D games, but since VR came out 7 years ago, could never return back to playing 3d games on a screen. I don't understand why I still like 2D games, maybe because they are their own thing and not an immitation of reality. We will still find hidden gems from the 80's -90's 30 years from now. Too many games and probably most of them were not released or not known. Save States fix most broken games.
