Farm Pond DONE! Spillway, Gate Valve, Trash Rack, DOZER PROBLEMS. Part 7/7.

Lots left to do. I plan and cut out the spillway, dress the sides of the dam getting it ready for seeding, define the waterline and dress the fields above the water line, among other things. Gate valve, trash rack, final grading. And the dozer fights me the whole way!

I few followups would be interesting. What I am most interested in is the effect of vegetation. Right now its just a muddy hole in the ground to catch some water, but over time nature will transform it into a little ecosystem with all kinds of life.

Magnet engineer here, all the flux from those magnets it just going to be short circuited by the steel fuel tank. If you want them to grab onto any FOD in the tank you need to put them inside the tank.

Those magnets senor are temporary only so that he can finish his work.those things are very elementary. Doesn't need engineer. Between the two of you I think you are miles behind. He's an engineer, electrician, a mechanic, a carpenter, a plumber, an arborist, a duct man, and many other things. And he is a good farmer too. You are suggesting things an ordinary man knows. And you are engineer.

I am glad to see you have made this series of videos. It preserves for all time and all audiences that you gave a dam at least once in your life, even if someone else had to pay you to give a dam. And, now with that you have a dozer, you can give a dam a lot more frequently if you so choose. Many people never have this option, so they have a lesser opportunity to give a dam. I'll be here all week. Thank god, nobody knows where that is.

@CobetcknnKolowski 10 месяцев назад
Don't worry Jon, RU-vid is definitely showing the steepness of that dam hill, puckered a bit at some of the angles the dozer was at. Also, you could get 2 super cuts out of this series, a montage of the absolute headache the dozer gave you and another of just the dam building progress.
@billyhansen7183
@billyhansen7183 10 месяцев назад
I was thinking about another part next week as a supercut as well, but now that you mention it, you could EASILY have a video just reviewing the dozer problems, and a separate for the dam. It also makes more sense for the casual viewer who wants to see a dam built as one vid, and a dozer being fixed on the job as a separate vid. Genius!

Strong work. You may want to check how much pressure the gate valve used on the PVC outlet pipe can handle. Most gate valves of that style can't take much. The gate may deform and make operation difficult or impossible. That dozer is giving you a run for your money or should I say isn't giving you very much running for your money.

@@back30 Yup. The idea is that you pull the line from a boat, but user error like always is a problem. I think it would be a good idea to put a small diameter pvc pipe on top of the gate with some bracing so that the rope can never be pulled from the side.

I love the videos. For a maintenance free pond overflow, on your standpipe use two 90’s to make a u bend. Add a couple of feet of pipe so that it sticks down into the water. Drill a hole in the top of the u bend. The overflow will be under water but will not flow until the water level reaches the bottom of the u bend. The hole in the top of the u bend prevents siphoning.

Instead of a long wooden pole with a loop on it, use a long piece of PVC or aluminum tubing and thread the rope through it. It will center on the rope and make closing the valve much easier. You could also rig it so that the tube stays threaded onto the rope underwater (laying on the pond floor). With the free end tied up to the bank, you would only need to untie the rope from the bank, get in a boat and move towards the valve location and pull the slack out of the rope until you can open the valve.
