So many of these old Farmalls still hard at work. As a kid in the early 70's used my grandfathers M a ton on his property in SE MO.

I absolutely love old school tools and equipment. There are fewer things more satisfying than a job well done with some old reliables.

@smallfarmsurvival4026 5 лет назад
Yep. Provided you keep up with maintenance, it works just as well as new equipment. We did about 1,000 bales this year and I only had to make one small fix on this mower.

God provided the daylight and plants, IH engineers provided much of the rest years ago! God bring our country back to the center of civilization and stop the madness we see on the TV box...

so nice to see these tractors out doing their job rather than being painted up and chucked in a shed as a collectible. IH made plenty of them, still plenty out there nice and affordable. We have enough of them preserved already.

My brother has our father's '48 John Deere A. I always said that the Farmall M would do anything that his tractor would(he always looked like he wanted to hit me). We also had a NH Haybine like that. My brother would cut and I would rake with the Ford 8N then he would bale with the NH 660. As soon as he got a full hay wagon, I would take it away with the Ford. A lot of times we would make nothing but bedding hay with the first cutting and get good hay from the second cutting. Here in Ohio, we used to get the August drought and get all the hay made in two weeks if we were lucky. I am happy to see the old tractors and machinery still being used.

Great comment. Thanks for sharing. I really wish we still had that August drought. That's when you could catch up on all those fields that you put off for the bigger fields.The last three years have a been a struggle with rain from beginning to end.

We use to run a 477 with a super H. Only drawback was we didn't have a hand clutch. Made it rough in thick hay with no live PTO.

Question though, why would you let the string run loose like that, so it might be able to be caught up in the pto? Not trying to be a wise guy, just curious.
@smallfarmsurvival4026
@smallfarmsurvival4026 5 лет назад
Great question. It needs to run loose like that or it will pull the transport pin out as you go around a corner. I've seen that happen and it was a disaster! You'd think the rope would get caught in the PTO shaft, but it doesn't. It's just rides across the top.

What oil do you use in your Belly pump to raise the haybine I have an m. as well and it seems like it is having a hard time lifting the haybine seems like it works fine for the first two rows and then it just keeps getting weaker.
@RedIron1066
@RedIron1066 2 года назад
30w non detergent is what’s recommended. I’ve cut mine 50/50 with 90w in summertime to keep haying with a weak pump.

Could you keep the camera a bit more in balance and not swing it around that much? It makes the viewer nauseous. You could use GoPro stabilisers like RU-vidr AQUAHOLIC does. Also look at the filming techniques of RU-vid channel 'Just A Few Acres Farm' as an example.

Very common to have no fenders. They would be taken off to mount a corn picker and never put back on, if they were ever on at all. Farmer could save something like $15 in 1946 by not ordering fenders!

Factory M fenders were just the scallop shell style and it's more uncommon to see an M with fenders than without. They were commonly taken off to mount different implements and then never put back on.

It is like 8 inches long. Why exactly are you cutting it?
@farmerboybill
@farmerboybill 5 лет назад
He said in the video - hoping for a better quality next crop. With hay, you cut on a schedule to hit the right maturity for quality. If you cut according to height, you make a lot more hay, but you make a lotta junk.

Why not have a gas tank on the farm? Going to a gas station and paying full price does not make sense
@farmerboybill
@farmerboybill 5 лет назад
I was gonna make the same comment. I have a stand tank that came with the farm, but they can be bought for $100 or less at many farm sales. Saves around 30 cents a gallon for not having road tax, but you gotta buy it 150 gallon at a pop. I fill up twice a year to run my 2020, 60, grasshopper mower, chainsaws. $90 a year savings, so the barrel is paid for in a year or so. Best part? No Ethanol added! Funny how FARM gasoline doesn't have ethanol in it... It keeps a lot better than ethanol gasoline
@gonerydin4225
@gonerydin4225 5 лет назад
One reason is that people will steal the gas from it.
