So I just did a whole IKEA white dresser with this stuff. I actually gave it 3 coats of paint with the last coat being extra thick. Then I used wood grain tool on that top coat. Once dry for about a day I used a min wax walnut stain on whole thing. Crazy ridiculous how it looks like real wood dresser!

hi! Did you use the gel stain from retique it, or a different brand gel stain?
@moniquebrown18
@moniquebrown18 Год назад
@@AlexisAvedisian I used a minwax wood stain in walnut. The only thing I used from Retique it was the paint. The paint is gloppy and full of wood sawdust so when it dries it’s essentially wood so I just treated it like bare wood. The only thing is to be extra neat with last coat and then use wood grain tool on the paint part itself.

I'm amazed at how well this came out! On camera, the faux knots look a little like painted-over burn marks, but the whole piece looks so soft and creamy. At the point you said you loved it, I was so skeptical, but after you applied the topcoat, it looked stunning! Such a great dupe!

I have a solid pine coffee table thats a square similar version to this. The top is one solid peice of wood, i want to sand it down and whtie wash it so its good to see how you did this for the colour comparison (if this makes sense?) Love that squashy sanding tool, i hope we have that here inthe uk as that would make sanding the legs do kuch easier!!

I used that brand about a year ago, as it (their chalk version) was advertised to have the ability of covering laminate without even so much as a scuff sanding beforehand. Used it on the vanity cabinet in our bathroom, which is solid pine with a rather thick cover of nasty laminate---from the 70's----as ours is a rental home, I just have to live with it for now...lol. It turned out beautifully....very durable, and massively upgrades the once ghastly fixed element I am 'stuck with' for now. ..with no prep work save for a thorough cleaning. Am curious but had yet to purchase their wood texturing tools; so am very glad you shared your experience with it. As always, a great vid which teaches me something new. :)

Wow. Yes…. That table is from the mid 90’s. I know because I bought the exact one. Last year my daughter said her dad still had it and asked me to redo it for her. And yep… those outside boards are wood… but not the middle boards. I blew threw in a couple of areas. But I stained it and let her decide. She loved it just as it was. Your’s definitely looks way better. But she wanted a farmhouse look and the base got painted white. Only if you are looking for it do you notice the blow through. LOL

That's so ugly!!! Can you make it better?... can't wait to see!! .... [EDIT: oh my goodness!! Ye of little faith! Why YES, yes you CAN make it better!! Amazing! I really don't like that 1980s style, and that type of symmetrically turned legs are not to my taste - but it looks like a sophisticated Mexican-Indian-Rustic hybrid now, even without making any structural changes!! I don't know how you do it! I thought for sure you'd have to chuck the legs out and put MCM legs on or something, but just with a paint treatment you've made it into something chic and easy on the eye! Great job!! Thanks for sharing!! (oh, and I definitely think you made the right call not using the texturing tool: the lines it made were too harsh, to my mind.) Kindest regards, k]

@salvagedbykscott I need help from all you girls on here! I just did a round coffee table with this Retique It. I painted the whole table in the Wood n Primer (same color that Katie did) then I brushed on Barnwood on the top; no wood grain, just brushed on. I want to keep the bottom portion of the table light. very similar to the color of the Wood n Primer. Mainly because the legs have VERY intricate details so I really don't want to use the Barnwood Gel stain and it looks better lighter than the top. Question: Can I just use a top coat over the Wood n Primer now? or some sort of clear/light wash over it then top coat? or do you girls have any suggestion on what to put over the Wood n Primer to keep it very light. THANKS in advance!

It turned out great, as always! However, I have seen you use a similar technique with painting first, then staining and using graining tool and deck brush and liked that equally well. Do you think the look with your paint/stain was comparable but less pricey than this kit? The kit is convenient, but seems like it would cost a lot more. Good call on doing away with the graining tool on this piece.

for me I never liked the lines or joins in a table top, too easy to tip over a glass....I guess I would have used bondo to get rid of the grooves on the top that way the legs turning would be the star. I understand that people like or think joins on a tabletop is supposed to be "country" or farmhouse, but I grew up in a real farmhouse and that ain't how it was....farmhouse today is someone who never stepped foot on a farm and have an "idea" of what it is supposed to be.....to each his own.
